Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4?

I was playing some BF4 recently and talking to my friends about whether they felt BF4 was a genuine improvement over bf3. They keep insisting that BF3 is miles better than 4 from map design to the gun damage. I disagree though. They also think anyone who prefers BF4 is in the extreme minority.
what does GAF think? I put lots of time into both and it's interesting to hear others opinions.
 
Neither. Bad Company 2. Both of them don't capture the magic that Bad Company 2 had. They're both pretty weak sequels to BF2 as well.
 
The question was between 3 and 4...

Considering that 4 is pretty much just 3 with different maps and better graphics, i'd say 4. I had a ton of fun with it and some of the maps are great.
 
Battlefield 2 = Bad Company 2 > Battlefield 2142 = Bad Company > Battlefield 3 > Battlefield 4

I haven't played 1942 so I can't speak for its quality.

No it wasn't outside of the question being "is BF4 an improvement over BF3?"

Which is a Yes/No answer. Then OP asked "which do you prefer" which is a "all series" answer despite the limitations.
 
Answering BC2 does not help the OP.


For me, BF4, better graphics, destruction brought to a whole new level really made the difference. I find myself often thinking : "Okay, the enemy hid in a building, let's destroy the walls and make a surprise entrance".

Even though you were able to destroy lots of thing in BF3. I don't know, the gunplay seems tighter in BF 4.

Then I should have clarified I wanted only 3 or 4 answers.
Because BF2 is unplayable now and I should have named it "is bf4 an improvement"

I would have to say BC2 as well.

If you're on PS3, there is input lag, though.

Between the two you picked, I would go with BF4. I find the overall balance to be better and does a better job at balancing the classes vs. BF3.
 
Had more play time with Battlefield 3, but that isn't really saying much.

Battlefield 4 was a copy/paste job of it. Battlefield Hardline plays and looks exactly the same as 3 and 4 too, crazy.

So I give to BF3 as it was the first change in the series

They are gonna need another change if I'm buying in again.

Bad Company 2 was the peak imo.
 
Battlefield 4 for me, I actually like all the maps. Neither are as good as BC2 though.
 
I miss BF3 maps. Just haven't grown very fond of the vanilla map selection in 4. I think I had a lot more fun with 3. But that's not to say I'm forcing myself to play 4.
 
While I prefer BF4 now over BF3, BF3 had a level of personality (Which is funny since compared to BC2/1 it has none) that BF4 doesn't. It just seemed like a bigger more detailed game where BF4 is literally BF3 with shiny graphics and weather

Oh he changed the title lol. Bad Company 2 is my favorite Battlefield game but I'd still choose BF4.
 
As per the current title, I'll answer as such. BF3 was my first mainline BF game and while I've had my struggles with 4, I think the balance is better overall.

I actually had to change my run and gun play-style and adapt. In BF3, every map I used the same strategy but in BF4 I have to switch up my strategy every time, and even that sometimes isn't enough and I have to go the extra mile.

Latency aside, I think BF4 is currently the better option. (Between 3 and 4 of course.)
 
Battlefield BC2.

Got some of the best MP map IMO.

Edit : Seriously, I would pick BF4 now that it got better.

Come on guys, the question is between BF3 and 4.... Having said that I would recommend 3 over 4 since it is a no bullshit battlefield game, as in it doesn't have all the XP boosters and battlepack unlock system. But, that's just my opinion, 4 is definitely a fun game and has some pretty cool gameplay elements; I just think that 3 was a superior game.
 
4's gameplay and new features. 3's maps, although I wasn't too enthused with the ones chosen for Second Assault.
 
Without diverting from your original limitations like some have:
BF4 CTE (faster run speed (Same as BF3), refined recoil and spread patterns and numerous other improvements) > BF4 + Premium > BF3 + Premium > BF3 > BF4

I never had issues with BF4 at release, but I had a bunch when BF3 came out.

I don't think BC2 is better than either of them. Some aspects maybe, but most are not.
 
People liked bc2? Can't even strafe while sprinting...
poor visibility in many maps (obnoxious sandstorm shit, overly dark shadows)
Bunch of rush maps and little worthy for conquest (not that bf3 is better at this)

Imo if you want to play battlefield just play bf2 or bf1942.
Proper conquest maps with proper capture point placement, mod support, no lame ass grind to unlock weapons/flares , lots more cool vehicles, way way way way (way way way way) better vehicle physics if you play bf1942:DC

bc2 and bf3 aren't battlefield, they're some bastardised 'modernised' watered down shootbangs that are missing much of what made battlefield unique and good.
A battlefield game without proper conquest gameplay isn't battlefield.
 
Bad Company 2 was the last truly great BF game. But if I we're to decide between 3 and 4 I'd definitely give the edge to 3, the map design was just better, it wasn't great but it was definitely better than 4.

You're being disingenuous and you know it. I hate this kind of answer. There always have to be jokers and dissenters for the sake of dissenting. It's clear what the OP intended, why pretend as if you don't see that?

On topic: BF4. I've played both extensively and imo it's not even close. BF4 feels more balanced, looks better, plays better, has better maps, has more vehicles and generally "feels" more like BF to me (at least the conventional definition of it). Levolution never gets old.
 
IMO BF:BC2 was the best it was well designed, had Great"Stable" Graphics and was well balanced,"except the shotgun with slug being a 1 shot sniper rifle without bullet drop".

as for your question, it's a matter of timing. BF3 was miles better than BF4 after its first update where team squads worked. it's guns were well balance and the issues server side were nowhere as bad as BF4. after that though, all the updates to BF3 unbalanced the guns, and worse, because they changed how the guns handle every update, me and my friends stopped playing it."DICE really need to work on UPDATE FATIGUE". map design in BF3 Was better than BF4 but net code was almost as bad. since i'm playing on PS4 i cant objectively state if BF4's graphics are more stable"LOD Flicker,Ect", but i would assume so since they're on more powerfull hardware.

BC2 is such a bad game in comparison to 3 and 4. Anyone who actually says its better than BF3 or 4 should play it again, its a complete joke. Nostalgia is just so strong for some people with that game. Horrible weapon balance, hit detection, and movement. Dont even try to compare either BF3/BF4 issues in these areas, BC2 is significantly worse. BF4 with September CTE patch is the clear cut choice.
 
BF4 by a mile IMO. I couldn't really get into many of the maps in BF3, but there are very few that I don't really enjoy in BF4. The single player campaign was miles better as well, but I know I'm in the minority when it comes to giving a shit about the campaigns.
 
BF3. It has better maps and more consistent gameplay. BF4 just has too much gimmicky stuff that isn't up to par.

To all the people who say BF4 is better, have you actually played BF3 after playing BF4?

At the time BC2 was better, and from a gameplay point of view its still a better game, if it had better network and hit detection it would be even better.
 
Battlefield 3 has problems, but I still enjoyed it enough to play it for 50+ hours. I sold BF4 back after 10 hours. Terrible, horrible Battlefield game. Not a bad game, just not a Battlefield title as I conceptualize it.

Was BC2 a good game on release, yes. But now it has been easily surpassed by its successors. Gameplay was not even close to better than BF3. Horrible movement and weapon/class balance along with hit detection. How does that make a better game? The gunplay is a complete joke in BC2. Just one example of many the ability to tap fire for days because there is no first shot recoil in the game.
