Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

Have to say I find Obliteration a ton of fun on Xbox. It's so action packed it's insane. I mean, I had the bomb during my last game and I was at the back of a jetski being chased by the Chinese transport chopper. It was awesome. I took it down in the end, like a Blockbuster film :p

Are they seriously locking out ironsights behind battlepacks? Or can you get them through levelling but later on?

If by ironsights you mean optics and other goodies, yes. All weapons still start with the default ironsights, then unlock 4 or 5 relevant attachments to that weapon class. The rest are hidden in battlepacks.

RPGs locking onto stuff is the most idiotic new feature in BF4. Makes no sense at all.

The RPG alone is dumb fire.

You need a sniper constantly tagging the target to obtain a lock.

It works similarly to the lock on beacon gun in Bad Company 2, which was a blast.

I miss my tag pistol :( But yeah, with a dedicated sniper the good old rpg becomes even more of a nightmare for helicopters.

Also, god damn, how many times I got killed by the Javelin because I try to shoot at tanks from the restaurant at C :(

HOLY SHIT I just tried the game with the Win8 trial version and the difference is night and day. Zero stuttering and smooth ass framerate.

I finally tried this out today on the Xbox 360. Wow, it's really fun! I've never been a hardcore Battlefield player, and I didn't play much of 3. Now I'm realizing that I really missed out.

The flying jetski is pretty funny, but I odn't understand the logic behind the RPG aim and hit there...

Rocket travel->movement->lead.

Similar to leading a sniper shot for bullet travel/drop.

Cry moar. There will surely be anti-lockon tech just like there was in BF3 to the point where it nerfs the SOFLAM/whatever you want to call it lock-on options just like BF3 eventually did.

I am pretty good with Soldier in TF2 and hitting aerial targets, this seemed really weird though. Like he shot too late. Way too late...

The hitboxes in BF are always a little funky and you have to aim ahead/behind to hit helicopters.

It's there for balance to impede choppers especially from endlessly farming infantry and ground vehicles. Rightfully so at that. Having to pull out a stinger which didn't work on land vehicles was lame, and it's balanced that something which can paint a target needs to be continuously on it.

It's hard to farm on Shanghai, even without the lock on RPGs. The chopper is forced in closer to infantry. Remember that there will be wire guided launchers like the SRAW in the full release. It will get even harder. The RPG should be a 1 shot kill but should absolutely be always dumbfire as a result. Make it the choice for skilled players.

With painting and the highest damage, it just becomes the default for everyone. We don't even have SOFLAMs yet either. It will just go downhill from here.

A good chopper team should not be easy to kill from the ground. It should take some sort of coordination. I'm not a big pilot and going against a great tagteam is indeed one of the more annoying things in the game. But the choppers already have two other air targets to deal with. If it becomes easy to spam them down from the ground, no one will want to use them. They've already been nerfed with pooled ammo that makes long distance work far less doable.

Tried flying the helos in an empty server earlier. What's up with their roll behaviour? It seems like if you approach a 90° roll, you lose control over that axis and you just plummet to the ground. Am I missing something here? O_o

Side question, anyone have any issues with the nvidia drivers and BF3? With the new Nvidia beta drivers it seems like I am getting GPUrelated crashes in BF3. My GPU is heavily overclocked but is stable in BF4, Firemark Extreme, Metro Last Light and every other game I play. The issue is a hardlock freeze with artifacts and a buzzing noise. The event log reports a GPU crash which makes me think its driver or overclock related. Thoughts? I heard alot about nvidia issues and BF3 but never had issues until now. This is a 13 mhz boost above my old OC ( Higher Vcore though aswell ) Sometimes I can play for hours no issues, others within 10 minutes

Domination is a meatgrinder akin to the same mode in Call of Duty. Instant respawn, very small map, very low time to kill, explosions everywhere, feels shit. Time to try out some other modes now.

Still makes no sense. There should be trade off. RPG is dumbfire but 1 hit kills. Lock ons are not one hit kill but can lock on to targets.

Battlefield flight model is very limited and feels downright weird ever since BF2. The lack of control and the limited effect of gravity makes flying not the most fun.

Oblit is kinda like that right around the bomb, but still pretty damn amazing. I had a blast last night, even on the losing team. Nothing like shooting down a full heli including the ball carrier with a well placed tank shell <3

I played Domination for an entire night to get used to the BF4 gunplay. It helped me tremendously.

Is there a game-recording feature in BF4 on either PC or PS4? Also, how much do randoms communicate on PC?

No. There's third party applications (PC) and hardware (PC/Console) for that.

Text-chat (something consoles don't fucking do. SMH.) or voice-chat.

I know I'm going to sound like a dick when it's meant to be half-dick/half-sarcastic but "GET GUD."

Every fucking pilot on all platforms whined about the Stinger buff (rightly so in the range case) AND chopper-gunner no longer having flares (rightly so in the infantries case), but you know what they did?

They "GOT GUD" and overcame the lock-ons. You can't dominate an entire map now just in a helicopter. The way it should be. You should be ducking and weaving and taking pot-shots instead of just staying in one area 24/7 and dominating an entire team.

Helicopters in 3 were too powerful and the infantry classes couldn't bring them down even with Stingers and SOFLAM to the point where DICE had to remove the chopper gunner flares/ECM
why the fuck was that even in the game on launch? I could've told them that shit was broken
but now a days it's not like it's IMPOSSIBLE to go a long time in a chopper. You just have to learn to avoid locks and shit and get out of dodge.

As it is, it's not like it's impossible to avoid RPG-7 lock-ons. If you're letting them hit you completely you aren't going around buildings like a butterfly quick enough to get away or dumping flares (which are in by default now IIRC) to break the lock and screw their lock-on up. Same goes for the Stinger.

As for the SOFLAM, worry about that in the full game but like the laser designator it has to FIND you first to lock-on and even then it needs someone to LOCK onto that lock to get you. Which won't happen if you keep moving to get away from the SOFLAM's auto-lock.

I have a modest system and after a few tweaks, game runs smoothly. I am not to bothered about having to drop down some settings, since the game is still damn fun to play. I do suck at PC shooters, since I always panic and mash the wrong buttons but I am still having fun!

All the automatic weapons in this game are inaccurate though.

SCAR H in BF3: 18.65%
SCAR H in BF4: 12.07%

Edit: numbers added

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/soldier/jim2point0/weapons/191341996/pc/ - 18% with the scar. I feel like the accuracy is fine. It might be higher for me but I engage targets that are way too far out for a red dot sight. Why can't I slap a 4x on there if I want???

Overall I feel like my accuracy has been pretty low due to not having my scope of choice. I was slightly more accurate in BF3.

Far more fun in the beta than in BF3 for the most par t, but maaan levelling is much slower. Iguess it does not mean that much now. I will wait for the full game now.

Probably is that way because of the beta. Which is strange because you'd think they would want people to test all the weapons and equipment as much as possible. But then again, it's more of a stress test than an actual beta.

They didn't unlock all weapons and attachments to limit the amount crazy people could ruin the experience for others. In the BF3 beta you had people with F2000's and IRNV scopes running around with squad mates who had spawn beacons vs someone who just started and had only stock weapons.

Also the betas are almost fully for testing server software as this build is several months old.

Hmm.. I just update to Windows 8 and my performance for the beta has dropped vs. Windows 7 lol. Oh well. Maybe 8.1 does make a difference? Or perhaps the game update again/server performance issues.
