Battlefield 4: Frostbite 3 Feature Video

Damn. This really look amazing! And dat Bokeh!

That bokeh'd (Is there even such a word?) reflections from the sunlight in your "visor" is probably baked and was featured in BF3, it does look superb tho. Not that FrostBite doesn't support DOF effects.

Man, the Frostbite engine is quite amazing.

The game looks so fucking good here.. a few other parts it looks a little meh in the water/lighting + foliage.

Give me a remake NAOW!

I had the same thought. Sort of. I just want a JP or Dinosaur game in this engine.. imagine a storm setting in as the trees start shaking from the wind.. then they start parting and falling as a Rex stampedes toward you..

Looks spectacular, big step up from BF3 which was already impressive, but I just hope they fix the stutters on PC caused by hyper threading. Still undecided to whether I will get this on PS4 or PC.... Think I will just wait for digital foundry's take.

BF4 looks amazing, but I just can't get into BF gameplay. I tried with BF3, hated the SP and MP.
The SP is absolute trash. Same you couldn't get into the MP though. It's the one MP game I can play for a long time since it's so dynamic and you can rack up points and help your team without being the best at killing all the time.

Those are out of focus dust particles, i.e a 'dirty lens' effect. They can look nice, but were way too strong in BF3 imo. As with flare, I really use a more subtle approach this time.

Yep, single player was so bad, played it 15mins and never touched it again. MP is where it's and that didn't disappoint. Maybe DICE should put all their resources into MP.

You can have the worst k/d ratio of the server yet be at the top of the list for points.
Have had it multiple times. Throw med/ammo kits like crazy, revive everything and spot as much as you can. Set defense/attack points, help to capture/defend points, etc.

It's just too hectic for me with the constant destructibility, vehicles and mess of people running around. Also the gunplay never clocked with me, don't know why, maybe 60fps will help. It seems like one of those games you really need to coordinate with others, and that's tough to do with randoms.

I've been wishing for a AAA dinosaur game for YEARS now. Too bad B.C. for the original Xbox was cancelled because that project sounded really interesting.

around where does the XBO/PS4 GPU fall on this chart. Which bar is XBO comparable to and which is PS4? thanks homes
Don't even bother until actual benchmarks. These are unoptomized Alpha benchmarks that don't mean anything.

I believe the PS4's GPU is on par with a GTX 660, but I'm not sure.

PS4 and Xbone are comprable to a 7850 and 7770 respectively.

Obviously though they aren't going to be running 4XMSAA which is a gigantic resource hog. I'd imagine more things then that will be turned down but even that alone will cause a huge performance bump.

Then we get into the fact that it's Alpha benches and neither AMD nor Nvidia are anywhere close to releasing drivers for the game and it's a pretty poor indicator for both PC and console performance.

The only thing encouraging about the bench is that it seems pretty clear VRAM is not going to be some huge limitation like some people on this forum have said. The 1.5gb GTX 590 is outpacing cards with twice as much. It's a dual GPU card of course but if you run into the VRAM wall you will get massive hitching and stuttering and judging from the minimum frame numbers it's clear that's not happening.

A boosted GTX 770 will be on my way soon and judging by that chart i think i made the right choice. I will overclock it so it should give a few more fps.
I almost chose AMD but PhysiX plus one of the best gaming monitors (Asus VG248QE) made me think otherwise. Too many games I like use PhysX.
AMD Does give a lot for your money though. Was going with the HD7950 or the HD7970.

"Levelution" just seems like a fancy way of saying non-dynamic destruction. it's all scripted and planned out.

and i wonder how many people on the map die on average whenever that skyscraper collapses lol.

A lot of people are also ignoring ALPHA when quoting it, as well...

No kidding...I remember how bad the BF3 alpha ran compared to the beta.

But on another note, this will be the first BF where I have a decision to make between PC or console so I really hope we know everything before then and I guess the beta will be a good general benchmark for me.

unless the PC version's multiplayer has a lot of notable advantages, the console version may be more worth it since there will be way more players available.

Keyb+mouse
And i doubt it. Way more? PC Triple AAA mp focused games always have full servers. Servers cannot get any more full then full.

An amazing looking engine.

PS4/X1 players are in for a treat.
Just the thought of playing BF4 on the PS4 at 60fps with 64 players has me drooling! :) I'm so, so happy DICE decided to shoot for 60fps on the new consoles. The responsiveness you get from 60fps feels so good.

I can't wait, this is definitely going to be my MP game of choice this coming season.

Dynamic weather and dynamic change of time as good as confirmed.
64 players on consoles with 60fps.
Commander mode.
Best multiplayer FPS ever incoming Fall 2013.
PC in game VOIP that works with whoever is in your squad, like BF2 and 2142, then we are in contention for such lofty awards. BF3's PC VOIP solution is a joke.

To anyone who says 3rd party this or that, its not the same. I just want to jump in be in direct coms with my squad. No diddling with Vent, etc. Consoles have the upper hand in that respect with BF3.

Repi, I hope you guys can fix this for BF4, now that EA owns Sonar. BF3 was a huge let down in this respect.

I thought they were out of focus particles on your visor, since I don't like to think I'm looking through a lens. Thanks for ruining the immersion for me :P :)

Anyway, I couldn't play BF3 for a good while. I had no problem with the sun effect but the flashlight was stronger than the sun during daytime. That looked really horrible. The blinding effect should have only been for night time. After all, sun dwarfs quite a lot of light sources inc. muzzle flash (which is also something most games don't get right)

All I want from the engine and BF4 is more destruction, BF3 was really disappointing in that regard. No shitty visual filters too while I'm at it.

There are no textures in the alpha trial. Benchmarking an small alpha release of a single MP level that doesn't have textures is not very representative

Even then doesn't your engine scale incredibly well with VRAM?
I know at least BF3 uses a minimum amount before stuttering becomes an issue (mainly an issue with enabling MSAA which has a huge fixed cost), but then basically fills up as much VRAM as it can with its texture streaming.

Great stuff. Once again Repi, great stuff.

Can you per chance confirm or deny a per/object motionblur implementation? You guys already have Bokeh in... no reason to not go all out on those next-gen post process effects! :D
