Battlefront 2 will have multiple Star Wars eras, singleplayer campaign

But they're not downplaying the PT. Hell, the Catalyst novel that leads into Rouge One, begins pre-Clone Wars, then shows during the Clone Wars and then up until the intro of Rogue One. Leia visited Naboo in her comic series. When Vader learns about Luke in his solo series, they specifically show him having flash backs to Episode 3. Hell, had they kept in the Senate scene in The Force Awakens (the scene is canon as it is the novel), we would have seen senators from planets only seen in the PT.

Hell, Cassian Andor in Rogue One was a Separatists during the Clone Wars.

Spoiler for Rogue One...

Mustafar from Episode 3 appeared!

From TFA...

Phasma wore armor coated in chromium salvaged from a Naboo yacht once owned by the Galactic Empire's Emperor Palpatine.

Also they directly reference the Clones as we know them in the PT.

alright. i'm going to be honest, i don't understand most of the things you just referenced. if you want to tell me Phasma's armor was made out of that extremely non-star wars looking spacecraft that's fine. if you want to tell me that IG-88 took over the death star and trapped the emperor in a bathroom by hacking the doors .. okay fine.

as long as the references to the PT or new canon expanded universe are things that seem only like fanfic stuff to me, that i won't even know or notice, i'll be fine. if those references are in there to make y'all happy, that's cool. i just don't want any trade federation droids or robo ninja jedis.

After playing the beta for Battlefront 1 for about a dozen hours, I felt I had played all I wanted.

A single player campaign and multi era multiplayer has me intrigued. I'll have to see how they handle vehicles in the sequel.

Seriously, I just want the prequel content, man. Any one of the prequel films alone has more interesting areas/planets than TFA, imo. Not to mention a breadth of heroes & villains with diverse skillsets.

You're not really helping your argument. If all they can muster is a couple niche references to the PT (and limit them mostly to books/comics that only superfans read), then they're downplaying it.

It's obviously part of a corporate mandate to present the brand in a particular way. And it sucks, because we're missing out on cool planets/scenarios for the big budget games they're making.

Putting the prequels in this game would be like shitting all over one of the most beautiful paintings ever created.

If they make it in, i'm out.

After Titanfall 2 I really wish Respawn was handling the single player

Stig & Respawn are (thankfully) doing their own Star Wars game. Which looks to be the very type of Jedi/Sith 3rd person action game I've been hankering for awhile, going by last year's E3 reel.

I only hope that particular game may be part of the next wave of Star Wars content (comics, toons, books and games) that won't be so tied to movies. The sooner LucasArts allows devs and writers to play around in a "KOTOR-like" era again, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Niche references? Is anything not directly in the movies as a major plot point niche references? We're getting Pre-EP1 Yoda and Darth Maul stuff. We got a comic series set between Episode 1 and 2. Kanan's comic series (generally regarded as one of the best of the Marvel's Comic line), was set during the ending days of the PT.

Star Wars Rebels continue to bring back stuff from the PT into it's episodes. From Geonosis, to Saw Gerrera, Droids, Maul, Ashoka, Rex, and so on.

If anything, what Lucasfilm is doing, is making the Universe feel tighter. Removing the disconnect between the PT and the OT and making them feel more cohesive.

I know it's easy to simply try to excuse it as corporate stuff but the Star Wars Story group really has thought all of this out. For example, Mustafar was mentioned in Rebels that it's where Jedi go to die. They said after Rogue One came out that it was a reference to what we see in that movie specifically. Hell, the Prisoner transport in Rogue One being repurposed from the Clone Wars is neat. They didn't need to have that in there, but they did and that's cool.

The fact is... They don't need to go all out on making references that point themselves out. Merely having Prequel stuff appear adds that element of connectivity.

TL;DR, the people who think Lucasfilm (yes, Lucasfilm, not Disney. Do I need to pull out the Bobby Roberts sign?), are trying to downplay or uncanonize the PT, are simply grasping at what isn't there.

They desperately need prequel content this time around especially for the heroes.

You could tell they were scraping the bottom of the barrel for characters like Dengar and Greedo in the last one.

Oh fuck. This is going to be great.

BF was severely underrated.

Could really use a pro patch though..

Prequel era stuff would be great to add in. Yes the movies aren't good, but beside the fact that there are good works regarding that era (like the Clone Wars series), there are still some cool vehicle, locations, characters, and shit to use from that time. The old Battlefront 2 was great whether it was the PT or OT stuff.

I hope they go all in with the Prequel stuff, would be glorious for the salt from all the bullshitposters who write stuff "The prequels are nuked from the canon".

That sounds nice, but I can't see it being much of an improvement over Battlefront 1. I wish they'd make a new Empire at War though.

I just want ti play as darth vader cutting people up and force choking them, gimme that and i could see myselfmgetting it day 1

These EA published games that suddenly realize that single player matters are both refreshing and frustrating.

The game sold great but the complaints were lack depth as the main complaint followed closely by lack of SP. How does it take them time and time again to realize it's smart to try and cater to the sizable minority of gamers who are driven to buy a title with single player at full price.

I think RE7 is a great example of this. Many folks like me bought it knowing it would be an experience we might not revisit (I did, and plan to, but many won't).

If a well crafted single player can squeeze 60 bucks out of people, then offering us a title with a huge and fuckin' awesome multiplayer component on top of that seems like a no brainer.

They'd be mad not to include the prequels - if there's anything we should be taking from those movies it's the production design.

Day One.

Battlefront EA is flawed, but I havent had so much fun in a game since... the original Star Wars Battlefront.

Besides the obvious appeal of the Star Wars IP, i generally find the feel of the Third Person gameplay very enjoyable.

I can only hope for Bespin Platforms...

I figure they are unlikely to bring back the mechanic of physically entering vehicles, but i would love for that feature to make a return.

No Prequel content, no buy.

Prequel stuff that could be included in BF2 are:

- Kamino, Mustafar, Corusant, Naboo, Kashyyyk, Genosis, Utapau, Umbara, etc. But why do that, when they can just add planets from TFA, planets that are just rehashes of the OT planets.
- Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Yoda, Mace Windu, Anakin, Grievous, Maul, Dooku, Ventress, Ahsoka, a ton of other prequel jedi, a ton of bounty hunters, etc. So many different SW characters they could use.
- Ton of different vehicles, two new armies (CIS and Republic). I would give a lot to play as the Republic aka the GOAT army.

The best way to tell if someone is clueless about Star Wars? They intentionally put "Disney" into sentences where "Lucasfilm" belongs.

I'm hoping it has all the content from BF on the disc and they're building on that. Good to hear it will have a campaign but it needs to include galactic conquest as well, that mode was sorely missed from the first game.

Out of eras I want to see some TFA stuff but I wouldn't be against PT content. The films are terrible but the locations, factions and heroes are great for a BF game.

In other words do what Titanfall did, campaign etc...for a game based on such a strong storyline and locales, having no campagn was absolutely nuts......MP only games in 2017 and beyond should be F2P imo.......

I want to see Kyle Katarn in it!

Yup. Funny enough, a lot of the people who want the Prequels gone will always cite Disney rather than Lucasfilm. As if suddenly they stopped existing.

Sad as it may be, Lucasfilm is pretty strict with what games can use. No old EU characters. Only canon characters.

Day one purchase - I don't even need to see any marketing.

SP campaign is a great addition though finally.

I want a mode like the original BF2 where you try to conquer the galaxy

Definitely wanna see the prequels in there. A lot of great design i would love to see rendered at frostbite level fidelity.

Might actually pick this one up if it reviews well.

Singleplayer is exciting. Hope its more like Titanfall 2s than BF1's.... but i bet they go the BF1 route where they do small short stories.

Would you guys be okay if they just took the OT era from BF1 with some fixes and active development was focused on ST and PT content?

Give me Clone Wars era maps and characters and splitscreen instant action and I'm in, otherwise I'll stick to the OG Battlefront 2 on my original Xbox.

Honestly, I don't mind prequel content that much, despite severely disliking the films. Clone troopers look neat and there are some nice looking planets for battles to take place on. Perhaps we could even customise clone armour, as seen in TCW. I have some problems with the art direction but not so much that it'd put me off the game.
I can see this being OT and Prequels, with the Abrams era held back for a blowout with Battlefront 3.
Nah, there's gonna be TFA content in this game. In one of the EA Star Wars videos, they showed some art work from SWBF2 off screen and it had a First Order TIE Fighter.

wonder how they would handle clone wars for trade federation would you only get to play as battle droids since they are the only ones that use blasters and make super battle droids and droideka hero guardians?
