Oh, you.
This. Pity it got such negative reviews. Very underrated!ThoughtsOfSpeaking said:![]()
Criminally underrated. Almost as good as GodHand in my book.

That's true, but nowhere in the OP did he specify 2D, hence the God Hand suggestions.Tain said:Games in the OP are Belt Scroll games. In no universe is GOD HAND one of those. And while we're at it, GOD HAND is significantly less demanding than some of the games in this thread.

No fucking lie.Okay, Spyro's still a platformer, but the combat system in that game is unnecessarily good. I had a ton of fun getting huge combos on the training dummy.
The OP is talking about classical 2D beat em ups, and those are all that he mentioned. OP isn't talking about 3D action games.Zoramon089 said:What?

Sir Ilpalazzo said:Yeah, God Hand is one of my favorite games of all time, but it definitely has more in common with modern action games than side-scrolling beat-em-ups (although it does go for a classic beat-em-up aesthetic, I don't think that's enough to classify it as one).
I'm fairly sure that's an MMO. I've seen it on an MMO community site before.diddles said:hey cool guy who posts gameplay pics and no title of some game that nobody knows what it is; nobody knows what that game is.

It looks terrible so who cares?
Zoramon089 said:Please explain this to me. The only difference between GH and 2d beat em ups is that it's 3D. Gameplay progresses the same way, through small areas that usually require you to beat all the enemies or find a key to progress. Combat is primarily ground based/requiring little careful platforming, weapons are plentiful. The only thing it lacks that older beat em ups had was co-op

Riposte said:You are looking at these games in a very superficial manner. You are basically comparing them on simplified appearances, not what they actually are(how they actually play). Dismissing "3D" as some difference makes me want to not even bother lol. The possibility space is totally warped by "going 3D". To put it simply: a punch in 2D(or 2.5D) isn't the same thing as a punch in 3D, despite appearances. I will say though that belt-scrolling games, unlike platformers and other side-scrolling action games, sort of take place in 3D so you can almost, sort of make an argument(which would include a lot more than 3D action games which happen to remind you Double Dragon's themes). However the argument you give is pretty silly and easily dismissed. (And belt-scrolling games, even ones rendered in 3D and try to mimic the older games, noticeably play differently than 3D action games, so whatever.)
That said, I have to admit the highlight(or lowlight) of this thread has to be someone mentioning River City Ransom... speaking of which, did you guys they made a 3D version?!?! OMG.
uh, the op mentioned river city ransom. although he wrote river street ransom.Riposte said:That said, I have to admit the highlight(or lowlight) of this thread has to be someone mentioning River City Ransom... speaking of which, did you guys they made a 3D version?!?! OMG.

EDIT:
lol.
3D Beat 'em up is a different genre, as 3D changes how a game plays. This is still true for the pseudo-3D nature of belt-scrolling games. If you want to open that floodgate there is no reason not to post Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, etc etc too.

At its core God Hand plays very similar to many a 2D beat-em-up only with a third dimension added; It's a 3D beat-em-up. The combat is deep and rewarding. The moves varied and visually impressive. It hides its repetitive nature by making you actually put a little effort into every enemy...initially at least. Eventually you learn the game properly and start taking out mini bosses like the rest of the fodder.
Saying God Hand is more like a 3D action game in the same vein as Ninja Gaiden is ignoring everything it has in common with the 2D beat-em-ups it evolved from. It's akin to saying Mario Bros is the same as NES Ninja Gaiden simply because they are both 2D.
