Bernie Sanders isn't ruling out a 2020 presidential run

I think he's more angling to become kingmaker for the next progressive Democratic candidate.

Anybody with his backing is going to be formidable in the next primary.

The buried lead here is Keith Ellison running for DNC chair. Ellison is a really great guy, good congressman, and a pretty reasonable bridge between the Bernie crew and the actual Democratic party. He's also the first ever Muslim-American congressman, so it's a direct thumb in Trump's eye.

I don't think this country is ready for a Muslim president. The fear mongering generated from the right would be 50x worse compared to the last two candidates.

Well I'm not saying nobody showed up, but if Clinton is one of the most hated candidates we could have run and Sanders had an overwhelming and undeniable groundswell of support, then that support did not show up to the primary elections.

Because he lost them.

Some part of this narrative doesn't add up. Like in terms of actual math.

So why are they "Bernie's people" instead of just voters that didn't decide to vote for him? That's what's puzzling.

I love Bernie but he'll be nearly 80. I just don't see it with him being that old.

Edit : ^ lol at Tim Caine. He'd do worse than Hillary.

Right now? I want a President that isn't a scumbag and is going to try to improve the country. I'm tired of letting other people telling me what I want is wrong.

Well, think about it this way: if Obama got to run a third term, he would have won. When you only let Sanders have one term, you put the country at risk of another Republican in a very short amount of time.

He better stay on course with diet and exercise.

Donald's already the oldest POTUS yet, and going to look rougher than Bernie in 4 years anyway.

Ya, I don't think Tim Kaine would be particularly well, even though I like him. He's tied to Clinton now, who's a failed candidate. The democrats needs to move on.

I'm sticking with Cory Booker as my early pick, yes, he apparently has ties to Wall Street and isn't as well liked in his own state as you'd think, but the man has charisma, gives amazing speeches, I think the country would eat that shit up.

I hope so. And anybody with his backing will probably have my vote.

Running himself would be pushing it but him putting his own choice forward would certain get attention.

Might happen, but others might try to be. How much influence does he have on the party right now? He get more in the future. Also how many Bernie directly supported politicians won the elections?

IMO, I think his age could be a concern. I would rather him train up a protege to run in his place.

Well, according to some Republicans, we just had one.

Is it possibly the Obama will the one to help rebuild DNC. Right now is still very influential and popular in the party.

i feel like obama has no interest in the politics anymore, esp after this election. i can imagine his wife pushing for something in the future, but even that is unlikely if you ask me.

I love ya Bern, and you are currently the best high profile senator. But you should consider retiring and enjoy your life. You deserve it.

If Democrats do not win the presidency or VP position on their first shot, they do not win.

Running would be the absolute worst thing he could possibly do.

If Warren is his VP (incase he kicks the bucket), I bet people will go for it.

Yes, in that case I think it could work. A strong VP, and maybe a 1-term pledge, so you're voting for Warren or some other very strong candidate to be his successor at the same time.

I'd rather not. Dudes going to be 80. That's no time to be running the country until you're almost 90, if things go well.

We have plenty of fresh faces, we just need one to have people like them enough, and they can put a serious challenge on Trump's 2020 run.

You are correct he is a good speaker but man he is such wall street tool. I think going with Booker would show that Democrats learned the wrong lessons from this election and are doomed to fail.

Why does Bernie have to be so old? ;_; I would still vote for him, but I know it'd be a huge obstacle to overcome for most people.

At 80, he'll be my last choice among a group of promising up and comers.

Tammy Duckworth

This is a good one. I'd love to see her against Trump.

Dude is old as fuck. He didn't come over here on the Mayflower; he came over on fucking Noah's Ark. I'm also worried that people are treating him like a messianic figure. In 2020 the socialist message is going to need a different messenger.

God I hope he does. I'd elect a 300-year old over Trump if he had a lifetime of political experience. I really think giving him another shot would be just what we need.

I don't know if we'll solve the apparently rampant misogyny is just 4 years, but I'd love Warren as well.

Too old and well known. The democratic nominee has to be an up and coming rockstar jesus like Bill or Obama. Gore, Kerry, Hillary were more competent than their opponent, but unbearably boring.
Feels bad to keep seeing boring lose.

Yeah, way too old. Sorry Bernie, this was your only real chance :(

Edit: Willing to change my stance if he's found to be extremely healthy both physically and mentally for his age in 4 years and/or has a competent VP, but even then, the perception of "super old Jewish dude" might be tough to deal with.

It could be possible I think if people are angry enough at Trump by the end of his term. To all the people saying he's too old, you would be amazed at what a strong will allows you to do. Combine that with top medical care and a good VP, and it's not that bad.

That could be because he came from being an independent. Most of the people that would have voted for him in the election arent able to vote in the primaries.

This. If there's one word that would galvanize the FUCK out of the right it's socialism. You probably wouldn't have seen a drop in GOP voters, but a sizable increase.

Obama has been labeled a socialist (among other silly things) for years, and he's managed to do just fine. I'm dubious that it has nearly the sway people think it does. Hell, if you wanna run really hard with the anti-establishment angle, package Sanders or whoever runs as the socialist brick you let the angry white dudes in the Rust Belt throw through the window of the Washington/Wall Street elites in response for being abandoned for decades since the Cold War ended. Seems stupid enough to work to me.
