I loved the scene in Mad Max where the motorcycle bandits jump over the truck and drop grenades. The music was just perfect there.

I know this might sound a bit crazy but I feel like the action in John Wick is the best gunplay I have seen in any movie since the Matrix. Incredible Choreography.

That's why I didn't like that movie...too choreographed.
Guys popping up in hallways and doorways like Lethal Enforcer villains.

Seriously, I can think of five scenes from that movie right now that are better than anything I've seen this year.

I've been supremely disappointed in movies this year. Whiplash was a saving grace of 2014, that movie blew me away.

The movie itself isn't for everyone, but Elisabeth Moss had some fantastic scenes in Queen of Earth. This one in particular where she just lays into her neighbor during dinner made me physically feel uncomfortable. She just doesn't stop.

I thought it was incredibly out of place. It was beautifully shot but the tone didn't match the rest of the film.

Yeah the number of people shouting out that church massacre scene is discomfiting. The choreography was exciting ok sure but that scene was savagely mean and disaffected in a way that just bummed me out. I disagree with you though I think that scene did match the tone of the rest of the film. Kingsmen is like the most cynical, pessimistic movie I've seen in recent memory.

Are these supposed to be bad things? Because that's exactly why I love that scene. I was laughing the entire time. It was the stupidest, most over-the-top scene in a movie this year, probably one of the stupidest, most over-the-top scenes in any movie ever, and it was wonderful.

Yes, because stupidly over-the-top, nonsensical, gratuitous monster battling is not what Jurassic Park should be. Jurassic World was the lovechild of a SyFy original film and a Michael Bay flick, which on its own is fine, but not when it's plastered head-to-toe with Jurassic Park nostalgia-baiting.

This entire fight sequence is just hilarious and amazing

Definitely great and loved the whole fight, but I wish they hadn't blown the Thomas thing in what, the very first trailer? It's one of those things that works so much better when it's unexpected, because it's so fucking random. It was already entertaining knowing the scene was coming, but if it was a total surprise? I would have lost it haha. At least the giant ant was a surprise though, lol

the dream sequence ending with the Mothlight imitation in The Duke of Burgundy
the night spent in the park in Heaven Knows What
the opening party in The Mend
the 360 degree pan at the school in It Follows
and another vote for the Limping Lotta scene in A Pigeon Sat on a Branch

edit:
also the return of Henry Fool in Ned Rifle

and that Queen of Earth one too.

The Walk: Entire World Trade Center set up and the actual walk itself. Expertly executed.

Mad Max Fury Road: Sandstorm chase, nighttime sniping/crow scene, motorcycle chase, whatever. Take your pick

Beasts of No Nation: Taking The Bridge. Incredible. Top notch stuff. There are probably 2 more scenes I can mention, but just watch the movie.

Straight Outta Compton: No Vaseline. Hilarious.

Victoria: From the parking garage to the club, and all that happens in between.

Blackhat: Tunnel/dock shootout, among others. Michael Mann's sound design, choreography, framing, and lethality continue to make for some of my favorite action scenes.

I know I forgot a bunch, and still have a lot to see, but these came to mind.

I'm going to post some that no one else is going to post.

Kristen Wiig coming in on the swan boat in Welcome to Me.

Building the spreadsheet in Spotlight.

The title card reading "Day 1" in The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Saoirse Ronan closing the drawer in Brooklyn, and maybe the dinner chats.

The dinner scene in Results.

The final moment between Cinderella and Lady Tremeire in Cinderella.

Props for the Blackhat love. Here's another great one from near the end (spoilers)

It was great but so frustrating too. What a fucking asshole. Probably biggest asshole in cinema history.

yeah i loved this movie but that really was the most non believable thing about it... in this day in age no fucking way could a teacher be that big of a dick without someone filming him doing soo... even though it did happen in the movie he just wouldnt be a teacher for more than 6 months.... exspecially the scene where he slapped the student...dat last scene though..

lol...that scene is so shitty. hemsworth is looking in the same direction those guys came from and he didn't see 6 cars come, men got out with all kinds of guns, one of them pulled out a rocket launcher or whatever and shot it...those men prob took a few mins to set up yet it was total surprise for mr hemsworth and the chick...and lol at those other two characters standing out in the open with their handguns vs half a dozen machine guns..i swear no one in Hollywood has any logic when they write/direct.

Even though Spotlight is one of the best I've seen this year, I don't think I could pick out an individual scene. They're all good, but very understated and work as a cohesive whole.

When Sasha confronts that one priest and he rationalizes his molestation!

Also, the final scene of Carol.

Spaghetti western logic, bruh. Things outside the frame don't exist until they're shown within the frame.

But really it's not as good a set-piece which is why I didn't pick that one.

Surprised with all the Creed mentions, no one mentioned the excellent montage.

Pretty much all my faves have been mentioned at least once, or in the AVClub article. It's been a strong year for movies, but not really for scenes IMO

Ok reading this thread got me to watch Whiplash tonight.

Wow

Just wow, how had I waited so long to watch this movie. The credits are still rolling right now and I feel like I was playing the drums at the end of all that. So good.
