In college I'd pull nighters with regularity. My strategies were short naps when I was about to hit a wall, energy drinks/coffee, and food. Normally you're fine not eating after 9PM or whatever because you're going to sleep anyway, but if you're staying up all night a decent meal is good. Also, you should plan to have makeup sleep afterwards, and probably you'll be sick. I always got sick after staying up past 24 hours.

For me:

-Stay mentally active
-Caffeine
-Take 1-3 showers. First two as normal showers, third as desperation "I need to stay awake" shower
-Plan to do something on your list, then watch porn instead, but don't masturbate for as long as possible (YMMV). When you get the urge to, get up and do what you needed to do, then masturbate. Rinse, repeat.

Well, that used to be when 24 hour awake times were rare. Now I do that a lot for no reason.

-Not too much sugar when you're tired (it gives you a high then a big crash)
-Not too much carbs (can bring on more tiredness)
-Caffeine
-Keep mentally active
-One or two 20 minute naps will assist greatly
-Once tiredness hits, remembering that you'll become less sleepy again after a few hours
-Eat well, but don't get full

Edit: How could I forget showers?
No sugar? How im supposed to take my caffeine if i cant take sugar with it?

Still it makes sense as it has happened to me.

Recently, due to some poorly scheduled deadlines and some major procrastination on my part, I had to stay awake for around 50 hours working. Drank some coffees (around 4, spaced out) and it went somewhat smoothly. I also took three showers, but I don't think they helped much since I always felt extreme sleepiness afterwards. Maybe cold showers would be better... nah, I'm too much of a pussy to endure something that unpleasant. :lol

I find that bachelor parties in Atlantic City are the key. I left my house for one on Friday morning at 7AM and did not return (or sleep) until 3PM Saturday afternoon. During the bachelor party, it's helpful to consume a lot of drugs and alcohol and surround yourself with loud people and naked women. If you find yourself getting drowsy, try placing large amounts of money on bets that are likely a bad idea. That's sure to keep you up for a while.

Hope that helps!

If you want to kill off sleepiness using showers, do this - cold shower for 5 minutes, then a very warm shower for 5 minutes. Repeat.

I was recently awake for 48+ hours which included a 2 hour drive home amidst a monsoon-like thunderstorm.

But if you want to stay up, stay in well lit areas, down caffeine constantly, and stay focused. Also rub your face a lot.

Best to go with no sugar up until at least you have no sugar craving. Not sleeping is not a good idea of course, but coffee or tea with no sugar is the best way to go if you're trying to stay up in the long term (or other sugarless energy drink).

You just have it as a shot once it's cooled properly if you're not adjusted to sugarless hot drinks. I used to 3 sugars in my early teens, but now I have decaf tea with no sugar, so if I really need that caffeine kick, it works well as I'm not at all resiliant to caffeine anymore.

Cold showers are a better idea, or at least cool showers. Warming yourself and then you cooling down a lot after getting out gives a strong signal to your circadian rhythm that it's time to go to bed. Your body clock is basically a temperature clock. It'd like how a hot chocolate or a hot bath a hour or so before going to bed helps you sleep.

Worry and be so anxious of the next WC match just like I did cuz Mexico initiated the WC vs SA and I couldn't go to sleep until about 11am however I only got about an hour's worth of shut eye and couldn't sleep until the coming night.

We usually get one of these threads once a month. Just drink red bull. Absorb carbohydrates. Listen to music. Keeps the lights on. All logical things you would think of on your own.

I haven't done an all-nighter in a long time. I actually have some fond memories of all-nighters since I pulled about three a week when I was back in university trying to balance parties and alcohol with exams. Good memories. I think my all-time record is 48 hours or something ridiculous like that.

The sleep deprivation late in the evening of the second night though is a killer. Last time it felt like my mind was imploding. You tend to have an awesome sleep though when sleeping off an all-nighter.

I would try to generally prevent all-nighters by organising your life a little better. I find nowadays that feeling sleep deprived (as I do now) tends to lead to lesser work being done. I'm in screenwriting though so your mind tends to need to be switched on.

play video games or listen to music. the latter doesn't always work. sometimes i end up sleeping when listening to music. i rarely feel asleep when playing games, unless the game itself is boring as hell.

you could also take a caffeinated drink, then take a 15 minute nap. you should feel refreshed when woken.

But Nintendo's Consumer Safety and Precautions Booklet specifically warns not to play video games if you are tired or need sleep

I once stayed up for 102 hours. Was well trippy. It was a bit like long distance running. You run through the stitch. Standing up helps, singing and dancing too. Thinking about standing on the rotating earth worked wonders for some reason too. Also, the sleep after is magical.

During my high school exams I stayed awake for almost a week to study maths. I started having hallucinations. After I finished the exam and got home I swear that my cat was telling me to go to sleep.

I've pulled several all-nighters, but I've vowed to never do it again. I feel like I've aged an entire year in 24 hours when I stay up that long.

The mystic's way to altered conciousness was often by sleep deprivation. My cat often seems to have the higher ground too. The pun perhaps alludes to the theory that cats are high most of the time.

Staying up 48 hours is a matter of willpower, not foreign substances.

Just keep busy, don't lay down or sit for longer than a couple of minutes and you'll be fine.

Its person-dependent. Not everybody works the same way.

For me, I can function quite well without sleep, up to a point at least. Others become invalid, and cant even keep themselves awake if they wanted to. It depends on your body's metabolism and your regular sleeping habits. A high metabolism means you probably run through a lot of your energy in a day and you'll subsequently need some good sleep to recooperate(sp?). And if you're used to getting lots of sleep, then your body isn't gonna like getting none at all, and will be all the more ready to shut itself down, no matter how much willpower you have to stop it from happening.

As far as drugs go, things like caffeine work for some people. For others, it just results in a quick burst, followed by a hard crash, which will just put you worse off than before. If you're used to drinking sodas and/or coffee, it's probably a viable option, but if not, you're probably looking at the latter scenario.

Things like Adderal, though, are pretty much an assured burst of energy and focus for a good period of time. I'm guessing you'd probably have to obtain it illegally, so I dont recommend doing it, but if you do get it, its as close to 'miracle' energy as you're gonna get.

If this is for work, tell your manager to eat a dick, hire more workers and learn how to fucking schedule projects.

Then give him the bird on your way out and tell him the project will be ready when it's fucking ready.

lots of caffeine and probably drugs (both legal/illegal) would be my guess

you could try looking into guarana (legal) as it's basically a caffeine pill

it's sold at GNC as far as I know

I lol'd at this post and I thought it'd be OK (as in proper in mideivil times) to bump the thread.

Help Gaf, you were the 4th Google result for such a topic..

Also, posters like Puddles' advice will not be considered; as you can see he's banned.

Drugs.

ie: caffeine.

I had some Tramadol for joint pain recently, keeps me awake all day regardless of sleep. Probably can't recommend you start taking Tramadol, though.
