Biggest case of Buyer's remorse?

I'm pretty sure the only people that will 'win this thread' are the few, the proud, the virtual-boy owners :p

I bought a Virtual Boy, day one, for $180. I was like 12, too, so that was a lot of money. Still have it, but the mirrors are out of alignment, so it doesn't work anymore. :(

Let's see...Killer 7 was an overhyped piece of shit with horrible controls and a stupid plot, full of wacky jappy nonsense for nerds.

Halo2 - I was working at GS when it launched and couldn't help but buy into it. I even got the CE for like 37$. After an hour into it I wish I hadn't paid even 37 for it.

Viking - I really had the urge to go and buy a new game. The game was actually quite fun. But far too short, no replay value, and simply not deep enough.

Other than those I can't think of any off the top of my head. Though I'm sure there were more. For the most part I'm pretty good about what I buy. I know my tastes and can usually spot shit before I spend any money on it.

For me, I would say the sports games I buy. This year it's MLB 08: The Show.

At the beginning of the baseball season I had a blast playing the game but then eventually I stopped watching baseball in real life as often as I used to and that loss of interest trickled down to MLB 08.

Now its just sitting in my drawer, collecting dust, although I do play it whenever friends come over. I mean, with the financial situation I'm in (bills, college tuition, etc.) I now realize that sports games have little to no trade-in value mid-season :lol

biggest case for me was probably the wii :(

most recent case is soul calibur 4
Really? I thought it was much better then Soul Caliber 3. Can't get enough of that character creator. And that last patch almost completely fixed online.

I never was a big soul calibur fan, and i bought this against my better judgment. I bought the collectors edition too :(

Thats an RPG? I need a good RPG.. they are almost no existent on my ps3.

Fire Emblem is an RPG... it's a Strategy RPG.

You could also try the myriad of good Gamecube RPGs, including Baten Kaitos 2.

Sadly, most of the good Wii RPGs haven't been released yet.

For me it has to be the Wii. Then again I sold it last Christmas and made a bunch of money on it, so the remorse was exchanged for happiness in the end. :D

GTA IV.

The hype inevitably caught me on this one, even though I really dislike the series, and I was also hit with the won't load on PS3 thing.

Got rid of it after two days~

Virtua Racing for the Genesis. Unfortunately, I had somehow managed to earn $100 dogsitting or something right at the time it came out when I was 11 or so. I wanted to buy something big with my money, and read some article about how fancy and high tech the game was--the cartridge was loaded with extra special chips that made the game super awesome and also made it cost about $100. Had to be awesome, right? I played it for about an hour before the thrill of some fancy-sounding technology wore off and I could no longer convince myself I had made a wise purchase. I already knew I didn't really like racing games, I have no idea what I was thinking. Just being 11 and figuring that an extra expensive game must be extra good. Oh well.

None, lol. I consider myself a pretty good gaming purchaser.

I bought Timesplitters 2, Prince of Persia SoT, Alien Hominid, Splinter Cell, and Super Mario Bros. 3 GBA for around $80 when I could have used the money on a NES-themed GBAsp.

It's not really remorse because I loved the games but it remains a giant What If for me.

Gears of War PC, I got a pretty decent PC about a month ago so I decided I needed to finally get Gears of War PC so I could play the bonus act. The game was such a shitty port and constantly crashed (despite the PC easily meeting the requirements to play it). I was pretty bummed to have bought it.

Halo 2 PC, this was right after getting Gears PC and I wanted something to make up for it.. Halo 2 PC wasn't it, I was easily able to play it on recommended settings but for whatever reason the game stuttered like hell and was all around just annoying to play.

Recently those are it. (And with the PC games, I did mess around with the settings for a while in order to try to get the games to perform well. So they weren't poorly performing because of that.)

PSP, such a worthless piece of gaming hardware, sold it for a Turtle, been happy ever since.

So I guess I'm not remorseful about it. *Shrugs*

The GBA, DS Phat, and PSP are decent examples. The GBA being the worst offender by miles.

Elan Doree on the Saturn was pretty bad. So was the Japanese DDR 6th.

I don't know what else, off the top of my head.

Oh. Forgot to mention in my original post that another was an XBox. I hardly played it and didn't really considered it fun much.

Off the top of my head, Overlord for 360. I played a friend's copy for about 30 minutes, loved it, went out and bought it at full-price.

What a piece of shit.

PSP Slim. I had an original PSP from the launch and it works fine. I fell into the hype and wanted the new slimmer version. Once I bought it and used it for a while, I realized I really didn't need this new revision.

This isn't recent, but Midnight Resistance for the Sega Genesis. It was based on an arcade game that I DID NOT LIKE AT ALL, but the reviews for the Genesis version in EGM were REALLY good. I bought and, well, it SUCKED. Absolutely HORRIBLE Contra clone that fails in just about every way. I really wanted to find those reviewers and put ants in their ears when they slept.

20GB Japenese PS3 on 2nd day after launch $660 after tax :lol

Played Resistance, then let it gather dust while folding for 9 months.

I've owned 3 PS3's and never played any game besides Resistance or MGS4

PS3 60GB model. Once I finished uncharted the thing sat untouched for months.

But thanks to cheaper Bluray movies I using it much more now.

Edit: Importing Kabuki something for Genesis for $70+ what a total peice of garbage.

Missile Command on XBLA. Normally I play demos a few times, but this time I played it once and unlocked it when prompted.

Apart from that, I regret nothing.

Jurassic Park for Mega Drive. I was obsessed with the movie, and the game looked great...

First last and only time I was ever suckered in by a movie tie-in

Maybe not a case of buyers remorse in the right sense of the words, couse I like what I bought. But i bought the Bravia W3000 the day before they annonsed the W4000 making the price fall from 19000 NOK (3900$) to 13000 NOK :(

But I love the TV, its just a shame I didn't wait a couple of weeks....

As far as games go, buying Skate on the PS3, was a shitty deal. Fucking horrible framerate destroyed any fun for me. And not beeing able to WALK up stairs. Man how I hated standing infront of a stair and not getting up.

Skate 2 is fixing that

i'm pretty smart about my purchases now

but i'll never forget one fateful saturday morning in 1995 .... virtual boy, day 1. it cost me about $300 dollars of lawn-mowing money, including the two additional games plus taxes.

and when it was $30 for less than a year later ... yeah. fuck you, nintendo.

I forgot to mention the PSP. I bought it along with several games for it, of which I really only played Lumines, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth and Every Extend Extra for any length of time.

Thing is, I brought it upon myself. I knew beforehand that few to none of the "good" games for it appealed to me and that it wasn't likely to get the kind of games that did. I put it down to my having just gone through a bad breakup and buying myself a brand new toy to cheer myself up.

I tried to like it, I really did. I tricked it out with a D-pad/facebutton mod and custom firmware, downloaded homebrew apps for it and bought games for it that I thought I might like if I gave them a try. I even attempted to set up a "timeshare" with my DS where I'd play one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. I ended up "cheating" on the PSP and sneaking in DS sessions in the afternoon as well.

I'm going to put it up on eBay in a few days.

Also, I truly hated Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. The game never got fun for me and frustrated me no end since the game requires a guide and do a variety of counter-intuitive things to play properly, let alone get the best ending. When I beat it the first time and found out how to get the good ending, I cursed the name of Tri-Ace and vowed never to play their boring game ever again.

May get burned for this but I can't help what I feel:

DMC4 - wasn't a huge fan of the series in the 1st place so I can't place all the blame on the game. Still, I regret buying it. It just hasn't held my interest.

Wii - I bought it on a whim. Have Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Corruption for it. Both are pretty good games, but very few outside of those hold my interest. I do have the Wii Fit also and that has been fun to use. Still, looking back I wish I hadn't spent the money. Oh well.

Girlfriend bought me a Wii. No remorse but I can't sell it now cos she'll be too upset. I want to sell it to garner the funds for GHWT.

Also Assassins Creed...... I've given it so many chances but I just can't enjoy it at all.

And those saying GTAIV???? It is a very very good game. It may lack some things that keep people playing it for longer than necessary but the amount of effort that went into producing a great single player experience should be enough for most gamers.

The most recent game I bought that I had buyers remorse was FF12: Revenant Wings for DS. Played the first 3 stage and couldn't get use to the terrible controls. Other than that, I have been pretty good about blind buying games before I try them.

use the D-pad to move the camera...

Is it buyer's remorse if it was a present?

My wife bought me a Nintendo Wii, which I kept for far longer than I would have done if I'd bought it myself, due to "present receiver's remorse".

DS Lite. Wasn't really playing my DS all that much, and then bought the DS Lite when they came out over here. Didn't really see much use to be honest, and I'm glad I got rid of it now. (though I still have a few games I wasn't able to get rid of at the time)

PSP. I've had three of them at this point — I keep buying them when there's a couple of games that interest me. (bought the last one for Loco Roco and UGnG) I've tried demos for a lot of the more recent games, but there's really been nothing of interest since. I still don't think there's been much worth buying at all since it launched really: Lumines / Ridge Racers are the best games on the system. I told myself I wouldn't sell this one as I'd end up buying another, but it'll have been well over a year since I bought this one and as there's the new model, it's probably not worth much at all if I did want to get rid of it now. I pretty much only use it for browsing the web if I've not got access to my laptop, which is very rare. (e.g. reinstalling Windows on it)

Wii. No games worth getting since Mario Galaxy, nothing of interest in future, Virtual Console is all but dead now. The only reason I haven't sold it yet is because it's an import system (hassle) and because I'd basically lose whatever I've spent on VC titles.

Any special edition that didn't have a proper soundtrack. It's basically the only thing that interests me about a special edition these days, and 90% of the time it's just a ‘sampler’ rather than a proper soundtrack. I nearly bought the Bioshock one with that stupid figurine for it, but fortunately I found out it was only a three-track disc rather than a soundtrack CD. Mass Effect was the last one that I remember buying, and not only did it not have the full soundtrack, it was formatted as a 360 disc so you had to play it in that!

Guitar Hero 3. I've had all three Guitar Heroes, and I've sold them all. They're fun, but I'm not into buying DLC for them, so I'm interested for a month or so and then I'm just completely bored. Another thing that's hassle to get rid of, and I'd lose money on as it's been reduced and there's a new one out soon.

Too many downloadables to mention. They generally don't keep your attention for as long as retail games (not just the length, but the replayability) and when you're done with them you're stuck with them. You can't trade them in, sell them on, give them away or loan them to a friend like you can with retail games. For this reason, I never want to see retail disappear for digital distribution. I generally only end up paying £10 or so for any new games I buy now as I usually have something fairly recent to trade in towards it.

Non-gaming:
Grado GS1000 headphones. I absolutely love the sound of them, but they've never quite fit my head right (they're big) and I don't use them much these days. Another one of those things that's probably tough to sell on, and I'd lose at least half of what I paid for them. (£1000 when they just came out…)

Every HDTV I've ever bought. They might be better than CRTs in some ways, but they're worse overall, and cost significantly more…

Any of the 5.1 kits I've had. I've had really cheap stuff, mid-range gear, and I just can't help thinking it's a gimmick. I'm happy enough with a high-end stereo or headphone setup.

Assassins Creed and to some extent Wii. The Wii's got a few good games and all, but it's the one I play the least. Right now I'm feeling that I've got three consoles (not counting DS) and it's taking its toll on my wallet, and I'd prefer having two at most.
