Biggest case of Buyer's remorse?

Black & White

Everquest II (although it is a lot better nowadays, what made it especially bad at the time was that I bought the Collector's Edition @ $90 and it was $40 less than a month later)

Pirates! remake (got repetitive quickly, design wasn't modernized enough from the old version)

Phantasy Star Universe

Pitfall: Beyond the Jungle ($30) - Mediocre GBC side-scroller that I blindly purchased in middle school.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil ($50-80) - Felt too different from the first installment. Stages were so long that I didn't beat the opening Port of Adia act until 2008. Could have bought GoldenEye 007 instead.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes ($40) - Everything about it was underwhelming. Sold it the next day.

MotorStorm ($60) - Felt incomplete and slow. Lacked content. Featured inexcusable load times and DLC that should have been free.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots LE ($85+) - Only because of GameStop.com's crazy shipping fees.

PlayStation 3 60GB (I... I don't want to think about it.)

Those are all the ones that have stuck with me.

This gen, Eternal Sonata, followed up closely by Super Paper Mario.

Long ago, SaGa Frontier 2. I spent my very first paycheck on that game. I hated it so much that I dumped it off on someone as quickly as possible instead of trying to get some money back reselling it. Urghhhhh.

Quite a while ago, but Eternal Darkness... did not appeal to me at all, didn't look like a game I'd enjoy but I listened to IGN and they kept saying how incredible it was and how I was missing out and I stupidly listened.

Wii.

I'm only keeping it because the motion add on might actually deliver what I thought was promised in the first place. Even then I don't think I care.

PSP. But only after Lumines and Wipeout Pure. They were awesome.
PSP Slim & lite. GoW and CC were probably the most overhyped games this year.

But the winner... Devil May Cry 2. I worked my ass off for the 60 euros as a kid and what the hell did I get man.

WOTB: Commando 3 - I was really hyped for that game and even though I wasn't impressed with the demo I still got that game...got nearly all the achievements (well besides one glitched achievement) and deleted that crap.

Burnout Paradise - Almost same story with Commando 3, hated the demo but still got the game because I read great things here in neogaf and wanted to get into the game..of course that didn't happen as I played the game for 10 minutes and never touched it again.

Kane & Lynch - Got the game because of the Heat like atmosphere and missions but when I played it I saw just a bland game with crappy controls and horrible frame-rate.

Heavenly Sword - Bought into the hype and all I got was repetitive and boring combat, stupid story/characters and those terrible bow sixaxis sections..so mediocre.

Halo 3, what a piece of crap.

Edit: of course, it is infinitely incomparable with the remorse of NOT buying stuff like Ace Combat 4 and Zone of the Enders 2 Special Edition when those were available in stores.

Also, I have some regret for buying the PAL version of NG Sigma, that censoring folly is damn irritating.

PSP for sure.

why oh why did I buy that..

Fucking super mario advance. The original smb2us and the allstars versions were great, but oh man, they bastardized the hell out of the GBA one.

I picked up MGS Portable Ops due to great reviews. It might be a great game for all I know, but I will NOT play a game on the PSP that requires you to use the analog nub. I hate that thing. The controls in Portable Ops were too frustrating for me to get past 30 minutes.

Actually, now that I think about it, buying Hi-Octane for $50 was the worst gaming purchase I ever made. I thought anything with a bullfrog logo would be gold :(

Not so much buyers remorse as buyers bad timing, but I bought a PS2 2 weeks before a price drop was announced & an XBox 1 week before a price drop was announced.

Here, have some BOMB!

Fucking voices needed to die, though I absolutely LOVED the "inside the magic vase" music.

Why not try the price mach guarantee at the store you bought it from? Lot's of places had it back then.

Easily the original Game Boy. I'd never seen one playing and when I turned mine on for the first time, my heart completely sank. Even if I had enough light to see the picture, the graphics were a blurry mess on most games. I'll never understand how the thing was so successful (though I'm glad it was to ensure the existence of far, far better future Nintendo handhelds).

FFXII. Worst game that I've ever played in recent memory.
That, too. I even bought the EB special edition :( .

I'll add in Wii. I bought into the hype, and tbh there were a few good examples of the tech in the first year (RE4, SMG).

And now the last game I bought for it was No More Heroes back in February.

Absolutely nothing for it has since appealed to me, most of it strikes me as a choice between minigame collections or licensed slop/ports.

I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of it and getting a 360, but Ive already been down that path and burnt by build quality. I might instead just sell it and get a road bike.

super paper mario. i remember people on this forum saying OMG ITS THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. jesus fucking christ that game was boring. i never listened to gaf ever again after that

elebits. another waste of cash. i really wanted to like it, but it just felt really shallow to me.

baten kaitos. i dont understand the appeal for this game, i was hoping for some awesome rpg, but it used cards! WTF? the story didn't draw me in.. i also really wanted to like this one, but just couldn't. my brother who loves tales of games (the same dudes who did baten kaitos) hated the game as well, so it wasn't me either.

a bunch of other games as well.

If we're only talking recently, I'll probably have to go with Soma Bringer and Glory of Heracles DS. And a handful of Virtual Console games that I bought on a whim, played once or twice, and never touched again. I'd have to put more thought into a list that extended further into the past.

Xbox 360. It has broken twice, I don't want a console I can't play.

Along the same lines, Assassin's Creed, which I played for 20 mins before my Xbox broke the first time, and Lego Indiana Jones, which I played for 20 mins before my Xbox broken the second time. Nothing especially wrong with the games (well probably, I haven't been able to play the fucking things), but I don't like spending $100 on games I can't play.

the nintendo ds

i remembered how much i hate handhelds the SECOND time i bought one
its the one reason i won't buy a psp. :\
Can you please elaborate on this one?

You puzzle me.

32X - As soon as I started playing it I knew I made a terrible mistake.

Also more recently, The Orange Box. I had already played Portal, so I was buying it to play Half Life, which I did not enjoy.

For some reason, that made me laugh hysterically. My apologies.

DS + R4 = the most remorseless buy of your life
How so? Don't you feel awful that you are stealing (Come On! Why else buy one AND DS, homebrew?!?!?)?

DMC2 was the reason I got into the franchise, it played like I wanted a 3D Contra to play (back then I mean), and I enjoyed it, regardless of the ridiculous enemy designs and poor control.

I still think it's more fun than DMC1, but I'm alone there.

Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru aka Psychic Killer Taromaru - yeah, it's a great beat em up with some cool bosses and stages, plus 2-player is a lot of fun and I did need the game to complete my Saturn collection...but, that still can't detract from the ridiculous ammount of money I had to pay for it.

Fable.....and finding out not long after that the extra content in the Fable: The Lost Chapters game was on Xbox as well.

I will never buy another Peter Molyneux game at retail again. Chances are he'll release a better version not long after he has milked everyone with the "gimped for release window" first effort.

HD-DVD drive for £100. I'd probably say it's worth the £30 now, since a lot of places are clearing movies for about £5 each.
Actually in the states at least, those things sell VERY WELL for good money since they are so damn hard to find.

Sega Saturn.

bought it day 1 for way too much money and 2 years later i was unable to find good games for it. ( something to do with the sega importer in belguim)

-----> decided never to buy sega again.

My tears clouded my judgement. I wrote a strongly worded letter to Sony Europe, who laughed in my face whilst counting my money.

I don't have any for systems. I don't fall for the hype about them...but games...Some times I get suckered into buying absolute shit and buying the hype. Then I feel like a stupid-ass for believing the hype.

MGS3. Absolute shit as mentioned above. Spent 5dollars too many. Only game I ever went back to return the same day
GTAIV. Most recent. Kept thinking it was going be the next step up, but it felt like a step back. I just got bored of it.
Killzone, The next "Socom" Or great online experience for PS2. Boy...did I feel stupid falling for this one.
Oh and the most painful for me...Every Socom after one. Just been like hitting yourself in the head with a bat, Then deciding to do it again.
And all those...coming of next great Diablo clone. I fell for atleast half a dozen or so over the years. And its not like they were terrible but...it wasn't the The Lord of Terror.

I do get a bit of guilt buying too much, ala my dreamcast collect. Picked up the system for 15, then spent 200 on games:lol

EASILY, Steel Battalion. Especially after realizing the game didnt offer the amount of depth that $199.99 might have you believe.

Heh, you just reminded me that I have this game :lol

Put me down for regretting SB purchase as well.

I bought an Xbox 360 just for Dead Rising, and hated every single minute of it. Luckily, it came with PGR3 as well, which made the purchase almost worth it.

It wasn't as bad as learning that xbox360 didn't supported the special controller for future games, so you got stuck with a huge, pricey controller that wasn't going to be used again.

PSP, twice. Bought a phat sold it and then bought a slim and sold it :lol

I really liked the games but the glossy (fragile looking) console, battery life, the UMDs (loading times), the home console type games (time consuming) don't suit me when I'm "on the go." I even installed CFW and played some PlayStation games... but no. There were too many flaws in that piece of machinery and it felt awkward playing games with the nub and the screen smearing (ghosting).

I was about to buy a Wii once. Thank god that I thought it over because that would've been my dumbest video-game-buyer's-remorse-move ever :D
