BioWare Apologizes for Mass Effect: Deception Errors [Comic: Chapter 16 - Complete]

Just finished reading the book. What a waste. Nothing really important happened and the writing was just so bad. As big a fan as I am, I wish I would have just read a synopsis online. Or waited for these GAF comics.

Chapter 10:

I have no idea what is going on in this thread other than the fact that the chapter number keeps going up. Yeah.

I've been turning this novel into rage comics so people get to experience just how bad it is on every level.

It all leads up to a moment so stupid and so terrible that it retroactively ruins the previous two Mass Effect novels.
I'm still trying to figure out why I should care about this story at all. I've read all of the comics and I haven't seen a single compelling event or piece of information about anything. What is the point of this book?

Did you read the part where he had some cereal? :p

The most compelling event is toward the end when The Illusive Man proves to be illusive.

A lot of stupid stuff, yes.

Ask yourselves this - did Nick need to have a presence in this story at all? I'm not seeing it so far.

Nick's sole purpose was to serve a plot device to get Anderson and Kahlee to go to Omega. Other than that he contributed absolutely nothing to the plot.

I have a weird/dumb question for those that read the book series... When you are reading it and envisioning it; is it in the game engine? Or real life?

Gillian has also gone to Omega, so he wasn't required even for that purpose.

Indeed. Gillian also could have carried the Biotic Underground subplot by herself. The way the remaining plot (post Ch. 10) unfolds, it seems that even the author realized how useless Nick was.

Really like these comics you made. Can't wait for chapter 11!
It's quite a shame, I really liked the other three Mass Effect novels from Drew Karpyshyn. I was kind of looking forward to reading this one as well. I guess not...

Wow. That is worse than I expected. I mean in the annals of bad plans, that deserves special mention.

I mean, even the whole thing about taking over Omega will allow them to overthrow the Council makes no sense.

This actually made it to publication?

Wow. Books 1-3 were not great, but enjoyable and at least supplemented the games - this is just.......REALLY?!?!

I love the comic! I have the first 3 books and found the second one pretty decent. Im so glad that I didnt get this one. But atleast it gave us this amazing comic!

I cannot stress enough how much those plans are almost word for word from the book. There's no explanation for taking over the Council - it's just "once we have Omega, we can topple the Council and rule the galaxy."

That chapter 11 is beyond bad, I can't believe the author came with that, it's bad by itself but is brain poison taking into account the Mass Effect lore.

As someone who has read the first through Mass Effect books (and enjoyed them for what they are), I have to applaud LumpOfCole for the awesome comic, and saving me time and money from the fourth one.

Lump, every time time I see your avatar I laugh. That whole cereal thing kills me. /tip hat

Wow, that is incredibly stupid. Overthrow the Council? And what makes their resistance movement powerful enough to stand against pretty much every single race in the universe's army? There's got to be trillions of opposing people, and plenty are explicitly shown being posted at the actual Citadel in ME1. Stupid.

Unless the Biotic Underground has billions of members, but then why would they have any problems whatsoever taking over Omega, a space station with presumably less than one million inhabitants if even that?

Maybe they do have billions of members. Nothing's stopping Dietz from just writing that in after all.
