bit Generations official thread

I have no idea, but I can't figure out how to get it and you figure someone would have posted it on gamefaqs or a review somewhere out there.

I asked them about Eyeball:

Now we are dvelopping new title, it is not Eyeball. But it doesn't mean we never develop Eyeball. There is a possibility to touch it again.

"Will the series be released outside of Japan?"
We hope it will be.
It depends on the decision of Nintendo Of America.
Ask them (for) please.

No-one has really mentioned how unbelievably hard and punishing Dotstream is. I can only finish in the top 3 in the first Grand Prix. The two next races that unlock, Lightning and Flash, are considerably more difficult than the first race.

I must say, I am loving the music in this game, though. Exceptional, very cool beats.

Good thing you can unlock "single race" mode and practice for the longer races.

Dotstream is ****ing lethal. I've managed to beat the first three GPs, but the final two are proving a tough challenge. It's perfectly balanced, though, so any frustration comes from knowing that it was your mistake that cost you the race. The music is cracking - some sections remind me of Mach Rider - and the game itself is my favourite of the three I own so far.

I really hope these prove profitable enough for Nintendo to at least carry on the bit Generations brand on the DS. Does anyone have any idea of the dev costs of these games? They seem to have been in development for ages, but I'm assuming that's because the teams working on them were tiny.

I accidentially found out dotstream saves your progress in a GP race.

I had done 3/5 of the courses one day, but had to leave, so I just turned it off. Later when I turned it back on, and restarted the GP, I started off on the 4th course, with my progress of the first 3 still saved.

So if you came in 1st place on 3 courses, and then on the 4th course you flubbed up real bad and came in 6th, just turn it off/on and it effectively restarts the 4th course.

I don't know if this is a glitch or the game is programmed to allow you to do this. It's very weird that it would save your progress for no reason.

Yeah, getting 1st on every single race is tough. (Though I did it.)

Now I'm on the final set of courses.
These are HARD!
And by FINAL I mean FINAL, you unlock them after finishing all of the other sets.

I've been playing Formation Mode a bit too.
My top score so far is 675.

Orbital is even harder in my opinion.
I've finished the game, now I'm going through all the levels making sure I have a crescent moon.
(Have a crescent moon on atleast 27 of the 30 levels.)
Unlocked and finished the 1st 5 EXTRA levels, but I think there are more levels if I do the crescent moon thing. Since there is an empty space on the right side of the screen.

Still no Orbital or DotStream for me.

I finally beat the expert CPU in Digidrive. I can always win at least one match against it, now. However, it's screwed up my ability to play the 1p game. The techniques involved are different, and almost opposite.

Got up to this point in formation this morning. Had all 7 lines, but I have no idea how to effectively do this section. I kept loosing 4 of my lines crashing into the walls everytime I would get to it. Last time I reached I really messed up and sent all my lines crashing into a wall at the same time and it was Game Over. I did get up to 936 points tho.

So does anyone know how you get them through those holes? Is it some formation I have to unlock?

Well, I was wrong about Digidrive Vs. mode corrupting my single player skills. I'm up to 40km now, and I still screwed up to end it that early. I was a little unfair about the ability to rally late in the game -- the last 7km I did after I fired all the large stockpiles. By the time Orbital and Dotstream come, who knows, 100km might be in reach.

What a great game :)

well, you see the move in the pic you posted? you need that one. i got to that point but never got the timing of it completely down and lost most of my lines. ended up somewhere over 1000.

I have a friend's wife that is going to japan.

If had to choose ONE bit generations... which one should I get?

Hmm, it's a tough one. You really shouldn't restrict yourself to one.
What's your absolute favourite genre? Maybe we can go from there.

I started playing Orbital this weekend and made light work of the first 20 levels once I understood what the hell was going on. It's awesome... both in idea and execution.

Soundvoyager just came and I absolutely love it. It's a great concept and a really well done title. I've never played a game with my eyes closed before. It's a cool experience.

Orbital should be here tomorrow or the next day...

Beyond those two, which other do you more experienced folks recommend?

YaY, I just ordered:
Digidrive
Dotstream
Orbital

Choices are based on this thread, so I hope I made the right decision :)
We will see in 10 days.

Yeah, it's definitely a formation I have to unlock still yet. I was able to finagle my way into getting most of my lines through when there are just two holes, but when they put multiple holes up, it's pretty hopeless.

And it's either my imagination or something, but the formation mode seems to go faster as you go on. On one of my most disasterous attempts (while still surviving) the holes, I had one line left, so it basically threw me back to the original dot set-up. But it was moving SO fast it was hard to get any dots with just one line.

I guess you just don't notice the quickness when you are concentrating on a bunch of other lines.

Orbital is the best! I just wrote a huge FAQ on the game because I love it. If you haven't played it, it controls thusly:

free-floating-diagram.gif

I have more diagrams like that in the FAQ:

http://crackedrabbitgaming.com/guides/gba/orbital/faq/

I will probably put up more stuff, like tips on specific levels (the hard ones).

Also, I discovered something in the save files: Nintendo bit Generations games originally to be two per cart?

Finally, sorry to ask such a noob question, but I've looked and haven't found the answer: when will (my account) be allowed to start new threads? Is it based on post count, join date, both?

I think it's post count - 100 posts gets you member status and thread-starting privileges. It doesn't really take very long to get there if you contribute to a few discussions.

Nice site, BTW.

I'm prolly being really thick here, but in Formation mode on Dotstream what the hell do you do when you get another line appear? I can't find anyway of controlling it, and when it hits 2 things you die. I'm confused!

I got Sound Voyager and tried playing it with the GBA Micro speakers and it was impossible, I just couldnt get the hang of it but I haven't had a chance to try it with headphones yet.

Does the Micro even have stereo speakers? Cause like...you NEED stereo for the game to work. I can't imagine trying to play it with anything other than headphones.

Finally got Orbital and Dotstream in (damned customs).

Quick Orbital impressions:
Exactly what I wanted. Tough getting used to, but not too difficult yet (I'm on level 21). Perversely, it's closer to what I wanted out of Soundvoyager -- collecting satellites builds up the music track. Fantastic. I'm looking forward to the really challenging stuff.

Quick Dotstream impressions:
Only did the first GP - first place in every race was a piece of cake. Not overly impressed so far... seems like it would be an excellent cell phone game, but there doesn't seem to be much technique. I have a feeling I'll be changing my mind, though.

Formation mode looks very promising, even though I only have one... action, or what? I'm not sure what that selection screen at the beginning is for.

I don't get this either. You have to intercept it somehow?

No.

It says on the box that headphones are required, though the old DS (don't have a Lite) is loud enough to play SV in a quiet environment. Better yet, hook your system up to a speaker system -- it was the most fun I had with SV.

In Formation mode, just hold down the A button while you push up/down on the d-pad and the new lines that come in follow your movement.

When a new line comes in, I tend to send everything to the top or bottom if there is free space, so all my lines line up right beside each other.

You will still have trouble controlling the lines at first, but as you place 1st in the GP races, you'll unlock new moves that will help you control everything in formation. :)

Further impressions:

I did five more levels in Orbital. I'm glad there's so much room for technique and style, because the game is rather easy if you don't get caught in a death-bounce.

The second GP in Dotstream is considerably more challenging. I'm giving it a chance.

So far, my ranking would be:
1. Orbital
2. Digidrive
3. Dotstream
4. Sound Voyager

(P.S. Anyone looking to sell Coloris or Dialhex, PM me.)

Just "beat" Coloris (completed all 50 clear mode stages). Man, the credits are AWESOME! Same with the Dialhex credits. Anyone "beat" any of the others (seen credits)?

Yes. I don't remember anything special about the Digidrive or Soundvoyager credits. Digidrive was definitely just credits, Soundvoyager might have been something more.

Damn this thread...

I cracked and ordered Coloris, Dialhex, and Sound Voyager. They looked most appealing to me and I will always love my GBA.

So, uh, anyone know how to use the R button command in Dotstream Formation mode? It doesn't seem to do anything, though its icon makes it look like it makes lines diverge. Do you have to let go of the A button to use it?

i havent played in a while, but each button is a move itself. the A button may be contradicting what the R button does, which is why it might not be working (cant say i completely remember thats how it worked though). each time you press it, the lines diverge one step away from each other.

Dotstream isn't that hard. The Laser GP seemed one of the easiest, actually. I assume the hidden unlockable ones are much harder.

Formation mode gets much more fun once you acquire a good set of powers. I don't know why letting you play a crippled version was a good idea, though...

Fine, I'm the only who cares.

The Plazma GP is friggin' hard, especially compared to the Laser GP. Haven't won the GP, but first placed all races and got the last GP. Which is really amazingly hard.

The races are fun diversions, but really I'm mainly playing to unlock the rest of Formation mode. Argh.

yes, can confirm that dotstream is great ,)
have the same non-cleared situation with the pla?z?ma gp, but also 3. and, i think, 5. race not finished in the first spot mode place.

and the music in the formation mode.. wow!
when playing with my new gameboy player i got goose pimples (i hope for correct translation :) the first three times

Plazma GP seems easy now, heh. Tachyon is a challenge. Overall, I have to say, the game wasn't as difficult as I has hoped (or as it was made out to be).

I really appreciate the endless modes that the bitGenerations games have (namely Orbital's interconnected levels, Dotstream's formation mode, Soundvoyager's shuffle and mix modes) . It makes up for the rather short initial playthrough time.

So how do I unlock the sixth game?

boundish.jpg

(had to copy both pics from thé trailer, sorry)

I want to clear this up now.
The sixth game, described as "one man volleyball" is not anymore included. Don't blame Skip for this, blame Nintendo!

i got 3 of 'em in today (dotstream, orbital, soundvoyager)

I still haven't figured out Orbital... it seems i have 2 polarities, and i maintain my balance of gravity? EDIT: woe.. i just got it .... awesome :o

Soundvoyager is a trip man, we really need more (true) music games like this ---- unlike other "music genra" games that you could essentially complete with the music muted, Soundvoyager actually requires your concentration on audio.

sammy said:
how do you unlock the other branching levels in soundvoyager??
Follow the sound. At the end of each soundcatcher level, there are two sounds, one on the left and one on the right. Pick the one you haven't picked before.

Alright, completed Dotstream. Fun little game.

Is there any strategy for getting ready for the crossover points in Formation mode? Even with the last command, I keep screwing up. I take it you have to go through the "alignment" node you get your stream in the center, then use the crossover to get through the holes, but damned if I can do it without losing most of my streams.

I just don't get digidrive. how to play? I watched the demo at least 20 times and still no clue how to play this game :(

Check the FAQ at gamefaqs. It's fairly confusing to get the hang of, but it's pretty cool once you do.

I just finished getting every moon (all 40) in Orbital legitimately* on my GBA SP! Yay! I did the first 30 stages in one run. A couple of the Final stages took me a bunch of tries to beat with the moons.

* Previously I had used an emulator while writing the FAQ for it.

Don't watch the demo -- it might as well be random. The tips posted in this thread are excellent. If you want to see how to play it, search YouTube, but I don't think I would have had as much fun if I hadn't figured out the techniques myself.
