A 30 second video of the village area of Bloodstained was released.

There's no NPCs or cutscenes here yet, to note.

Edit: Apparently there was also a castle video from last month that I don't think got a thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i__6X8jQ_o

IGA said:
Merry Christmas! This is IGA.

Last update we shared how we build the environment, so for this update, we would like to introduce you to a new stage based on that method. Previously, we shared the ship and the castle entrance. I would like to introduce you to the village this time.

As we mentioned at the beginning of our Kickstarter campaign, Bloodstained takes place in a castle! So now you're probably thinking, "What's this, a village?"

I thought so, too, but yes: We have a village. In the narrative, we're still headed to the island where the castle emerged. There's a village nearby that we'll have to pass through on our way to the castle entrance.

As you can tell from the video, the village is red, which has nothing to do with Christmas! During the eruption of the Laki volcanic fissure in 1783 and 1784, "the afternoon sky was dark as night and red as blood," according to a contemporary saying from Hampshire, England. So we tried to express that in the afternoon scene you see here.

Building your visuals from a piece of historical data makes the world more realistic. (The internet is so useful!) The village is also under the demons' attack, so of course there will be enemies here. We are also planning to put a shop here to support the player, and you'll find Johannes, who we introduced previously, here too.

In addition to Johannes...Oh, we can't quite tell you yet, but you'll hear more about them in our later updates. Please look forward to it.

Finally, I would like to answer a few more of your questions for next month's update. After that, we've invited Michiru-san to answer questions for a future update.

Player character looks great.

Environmental graphics kinda look janky. Like something from AeternoBlade.

Uh-Oh. That just does not instill me with a ton of confidence. Maybe I'm weird, but if they had gone for a 16-bit aesthetic for this instead I think I'd be a lot more excited.

I feel the houses should extend back a bit more. I dunno, they just feel like fake houses on a studio lot.

Other than that though I still like the look. I'd prefer well done 2D art (pixel or otherwise) but I still think the 3D style they've gone for is alright.

I...did not think it would look like that tbh. This is giving me some Mighty No. 9 vibes but I still have hope the game will be good though.

Looks pretty great and mimics the classic backgrounds fairly well. A bit rough but there's plenty of time to clean them up.

The folks making MN9 comparisons baffle me.

This is the first video I've watched of this game, and my first impression is that it's ugly, but I somehow kind of like it?

My interest went from nonexistent to... existent.

the background looks fantastic, and Miriam looks great. However the blend just doesnt look right. I think its the lightning. Overall I like the look and hope they just clean it up so that Miriam properly integrates into the scene

Your comment about studio lot is so spot on. There is something lacking in the background. And her shadow is too low res!

The background looks absolutely fantastic, but everything else has me skeptical. I don't like the character model or the animation at all. Disappointing

The background is way too static. It seems to have multiple background layers but it still looks extremely flat and sterile without any depth.

I think this looks pretty great albeit rough (lighting and character animations). I have pleb tastes though and don't care for 2D art outside of fighting games, so almost any 3D would be an improvement over the old games IMO.

There's something a little off about the village, but after the ship and the castle entrance look so good I'll chalk it up to being early.

Why does Yamane keep making memorable catchy music. Most composers get generic and boring after a while. She keeps making amazing music.

The lighting is atrocious, and Miriam would feel less floaty if she had a simple spot shadow under her feet.

Are you guys seeing the same thing I am? This looks incredible. Yes, its empty obviously, and they noted it, but in terms of just an environment and how its lit? It looks so dope. Way better than I anticipated. Also, destructible floors.

Something about this looks off to me. Obviosuly, early and I haven't played it.

Looks like jumps are floaty, the foreground and background look strange together in 3d.

I hope this winds up excellent- I want it to be better than nothing.

MN9 2.0 incoming?

The fuck are you talking about. Have you been following this game's development? Did you see last month's update video? This game is more than a year away from release and it's been looking (and sounding) way better than MN9 already.

Did you play Symphony of the Night? Because she controls exactly like him. Yes, a bit floaty, but thats what they're going for.

I think the basis for a game with a pretty look is there but like other people mentioned the blend isn't quite right. I would also note the roof parts that are brighter I assume for gameplay signaling that they can be walked upon don't fit.

They stand out way too much.
