Anyone want to start an online game of Race for the Galaxy? I just bought the game today and am having a hard time figuring it out just reading the manual and looking at the cards.
I'd be happy to teach but I don't have experience with the online game, though I know there is one.

My Hilinski Brothers Crokinole board showed up today. Gorgeous. I'll have to get some pics of it tomorrow and post. These guys are certainly pros.

Someone beat me to it. Happened this morning when I was messing around. It took about 30 seconds for a random person to join.

Try this one

LOL this isnt going to work. That one took about 10 seconds.
If anyone wants to try this out today I'm at home, just post and then we probably have to hook up via IM since I think games just start straightaway. Four-player GAF RftG could be amazing but baby steps for now....

Playing a couple of games right now just to try it out. Quite impressed.

Yeah I think we could DEFINITELY get a 4p game going. Barebones maybe, but it has images and everything works. And you can even play with The Gathering Storm + goals.

Only thing is we'd have to all sign up at once b/c games fill up fast.

Sign up fools!

Cool ummm...I guess if we can get a couple more here at the same time we can try to make a 4p game? Or we could just try to do a 2p advanced game.

I've got an account now too. Bummer there's no password system. If it's not an asynchronous PBEM thing I probably can't play until tomorrow or Saturday though.

Nope totally asynchronous. The only thing that has to be synced is joining since there aren't private rooms. After that you can just check your games and see if it's your turn. Doesn't e-mail but not a huge deal.

Post if you guys are around and I'll post the join link and we'll see if we can get at least 3 of us in.

platy if you are here right now i'll try to set up a 2p game, and then if others want to play later we can also try to do a 4p

But isn't San Juan based off of PR? Anyways, I'll have to read the rules before I play a game. One thing I noticed was that the card images on that genie.game-host.org site had pretty small images for the cards imo.

Hm yeah I guess it isn't super clear--didn't even notice. Then again my first experience with only board-gaming was a 1960: MotP text-based game where all you had to go by was the card names so this is a pretty big step up. :lol

Pretty sure you can see the powers in the back of the manual too if you can't make them out there.

Very loosely, mechanics-wise.

The image files themselves are larger than they display in the game too. So you can right click view image (firefox) and see a bigger more legible version.

Yeah I'm really digging it. As usual making the switch from tabletop to pc I feel like a bumbling old man making mistakes but it's really straightforward and well done.

Oh shit, RftG online? I will definitely be down next time there's a game.
Yeah, and it's really well done (for a non-commercial venture). The only tough thing is that you have to be here when the game is created so you can join fast b/c there aren't private rooms and spots fill up quick.

Does anyone know of a good board/card game to play for lunch breaks during work? There needs to be very little set up and take down and the game has to last about twenty minutes. We've been playing Liar's Dice and I'm getting kind of tired of it.

Now that it finaly started I bet the random guy isnt going to be there :(

Why does this have to be so hard :(

Nevermind he is there!

This might be the right place to ask this but I want to buy a friend a boardgame. She likes Catan, Carcasonne and Agricola a lot. Are there any other similar games that she might like?

Is there a rule that wont let you play 2 of the same card?

I need some tips on how to keep a big stock of card in my hand. I have been trying to play New Earth and Galactic Trendsetters all game but I never seem to have enough cards and I feel like I am having to explore every other round.

If she's fine with Agricola, maybe something like Power Grid or Dominion? Maybe Puerto Rico?

Haha they really need to put this up on XBLA, give it the nice HD Magic treatment.
Seriously. Would be awesome.

Man, this could be close...

Edit:
Woo! That was awesome. Last turned gained me about 20 points there.

So if you use the trade action you can sell a blue good for 2 cards, brown for 3, green for 4 or a yellow for 5?
Yes, plus whatever trade bonuses you have ($ symbol on the cards).

Yep. This is the main way of keeping your hand well stocked, although the occasional explore can be useful.

You'll also note that many cards give you bonuses to trading certain goods. Some give bonuses for all goods. And these bonuses stack. If you look at my tableau, I had a +4 total for blue trades, and +2 for anything else. That's what kept my hand full most of that game.
