seeing more posts from people i know that were near the explosions is comforting , glad they are safe

but wow at this girl i know being so close to the explosions, i can't imagine what she went through. :( im still shocked

And when it gets to that point, I'm happy to lend my support to bannings and calling people shitheads. For the rest of the posters that want to speculate, I don't see a problem, especially when so much of the media is also speculation too.

Because if you're trying to get the facts speculation spam gets in the way?

The Post is known for rushing their fact checking, getting the story wrong and generally being incendiary with their reporting. They are a rag that's not fit for use as toilet paper.

Oh I know, my grandma gets the Post delivered to the house every morning (I live in NJ). I don't read it except to read about the Yankees and Jets during their respective seasons.

Boston Massacre 2.0!

Wat

My lasting impression from the footage is that (thankfully) the payload of the bombs didn't seem too great. Seems to have just been the unfortunate souls within a few metres of the blast radius that died or were injured. There were runners going by very close to the blasts that got through unscathed.

The rush to assign political blame or wishing for what type of person may have conducted acts like this is so sick...

For fuck's sake, going over the circumstantial evidence for one group being responsible over another does not imply that you want that group to be responsible. See, there's a difference between trying to figure out the truth, and stating a preference. This is not a difficult concept to understand.

"The smoke was white, so it's most likely it's a plastic, amateur bomb."

"Oh my God, you don't know that; speculation is irresponsible!"

CNN expert said something similar.

This is amazing:

Am guessing to let passers-by with outage find info out.

It is amazing. Not to dilute the massive tragedy this is, when people offer an open hand to others always makes me proud to be a human being. Especially when it's not done to make the self feel better.

Not gonna quote but man... these account suicides aren't funny and most will be forgotten seconds after they happen. So lets chill and stay classy.

If you want the facts, a discussion board isn't the right place, surely? This isn't a news source, this is GAF. I think posters can be expected to realise what's someone saying something, and what's a credible source.

Sad news. I hope they can determine who did this. Days like these are reminders of how uncontrollable life can be. One of the most shaking realizations of these events are that it could just as easily be us. It is something that certainly gave me a lot of grief at once. As much as I'd love for to be a real way to make these acts end worldwide, there seems to be no feasible way of doing so. It seems like the only consolation we can give ourselves is that the odds are so low of it occurring to us that many will be lucky enough not to happen to us or any of our loved ones. Though, it is not a lasting comfort for most.

This is beautiful

Boston. Fucking horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

He's not going to give a lowdown. He's going to give a speech and give condolences. But twitter feeds, internet news, etc. That's where the stories are going to break. Obama is reciting a speech written based on the initial flood of information.

Yes, no doubt he will be reciting a speech, but there might also be some light shed on the facts. There has been so many reports and debunks that I just want a handle on what is taking place.

So, why the fuck the Boston Marathon? Any ideas?

Exposure. You want to do shock value, if you don't have much in the way of explosives, your best bet would be to put it in a place that tons of people are watching. The Marathon not only has Cameras recording at all times, but has a ton of foot traffic.

Can we please stop quoting that asshole? I assume I can't report him cause I'm a Junior, right?

You don't need to report him, mods will read through the thread and take care of business. There's no need for everyone to point these ass-hats out.

The backseat modding is way more annoying than the snarky replies.

The scariest video of the explosion yet imo.

Genuinely scary. :(

Terrifying.

Oh my god, that is horrible. Ugh. =(

Just saw this on twitter...

Dunno if it means anything, but figured I'd post it...

Probably nothing as the roof looks fenced in, so people are probably allowed up there.. but even so, its worth nothing.

Honestly in situations like this GAF can be one of the better places to go if you wants facts, as long as you keep up.
