Bombs detonated at Boston Marathon finish line

Theres different kind of bombs. It may have had nails or other shrapnel that is shot out when it explodes.

It could very well have. Only basing my "analysis" on what I saw in the footage. The other thing I noticed is that in the aftermath there was actually very little in the way of property damage. The buildings and streets seemed pretty much intact, with only debris littering the area. Seems like the bombs going off in trash cans resulted in the explosions driving upward out of the cans.

wow at the Boston Globe clip. The sound of that explosion is quite jarring to say the least. My heart goes out to Boston and all the victims of this terrible tragedy. And WTF is with all the "Youtube" quality comments on GAF!? Get that shit out of here!

One of the experts on Bloomberg said there was no evidence of any deliberate shrapnel elements to the bombs. Otherwise, you would have seen those runners get hit.

I went out as soon as I heard about it, about 30 minutes after the first blast. At one point they cops all rushed to push all of us in doors in expectation of a third blast which was pretty tense.

Yeah I sound like an asshole saying it, but we are lucky that whoever made the bombs seems to be fairly incompetent. Could have made something much larger/deadlier without much trouble. Death/injury tolls could easily be double or tripled.

you don't sound like an asshole - considering what's been found and what could've happened, the death/injury tolls probably could have been significantly worse

I know the media has to do their thing, but I always hate this point during the media circus of speed vs. accuracy.

So much conflicted information.

Developing a deep well of skepticism is both healthy and a good filter to efficiently gather information in times like these. Knowing what you can and can't trust is invaluable.

Here comes the conspiracies.

"So, like, I was in town and I walked past this security guard and I thought, "that's weird". Next thing I know I see this guy stealing a shirt from GAP and totally getting tackled by another guard. They fucking knew, man. They fucking knew."

Struck by the contrasting visuals of the terrible, direct violence in the background with the the flags of countries united in celebration in the foreground, and the immediate rush of the crowd to assist the victims.

Thoughts are with those who were affected.

As bad as something like this is, at least it wasn't worse. Hope those responsible are in police custody soon.

in all the videos, you see men in military uniforms helping out.

how did the national guards get there so fast?
It's not unusual at all to see see the National Guard supplementing the police security force at major public events. That's the way things have been since Sept 11th.

Could this possibly be a gas leak or something like that. Has it been confirmed that it was a bomb?
