Bombs detonated at Boston Marathon finish line

I really don't know what to say, aside from that I hpe everyone will recover.. eventhough I know not everyone wil :(

The only "good" thing Itry to tell myself is that not all bombs did explode...

And people should just stop with speculations. This isn't the time for hobby detectives. And not the time to discuss something as stupid as if this is considered terrorism or not.

This is the time to think about the victims, the time to think about your family and think about how this could happen everyday ( and in many parts of the world it does :( )

Big respect to all people who are able to help there.

What was up with NYPOST saying 12 dead?

Probably got that from one of the early tweets, someone reported that.

With so much information flying around, they just pick and choose the ones that will drive traffic their way, hence higher body count even if it's the most questionable source.

I have to say that Fox News showing the bombs exploding to the side while he was delivering his conference, and playing the audible of people screaming over his speech, was the poorest showing of news journalism I have ever seen.

Fuck my work for only showing Fox News.

Fox is just playing to their base with fear tactics.

So what's the new meaning? Muslim acts of violence? Violence against America perpetrated by non-Muslims is now no longer considered "terrorism" and our "war against terror" is now just a "war against Muslims"?

I mean if that's the case, that's pretty disgusting in and of itself.

I think while War on Muslims is the general blanket, War on Anyone Else is where we are now.

We live in a country where a top billboard singer says almost daily that he's going to kill the president, where a guy can go on news shows and say that if Obama takes away guns, he's going to start killing people. And nobody does anything about our nutjobs. Because second amendment and such.

Something of this magnitude is almost always ideologically or religiously motivated, so chances are that some organization or individual will step forward and take credit for it sooner or later. I have a hard time imagining this being the work of somebody who just wants to murder innocents and isnt interesting in sending message a concrete message.

Hm, possible. Whatever gets us a target faster. Panic will lead to both good and bad speculation, the latter based on race or ideology. And, well...

i dont understand why they think that the suspect might be among the wounded !?

Might have had to be in close proximity to detonate devices, or wanted to be close to see carnage.

Pretty much, Sandy Hook wasn't considered "terrorism" in media, Aurora wasn't considered terrorism. It's weird semantics that just seem to hurt the conversation in general.

If those shootings were done in the name of some kind of ideology they would have been called terrorism. There are slight, but important differences between 'ordinary' murder and something else.

'Instilling fear' in the general public is not a good enough definition on it's own, as any bank robber can be considered a terrorist in that case. It's clear there needs to be an ideological motive.

Bone-chilling...

I dunno if we can say "ball bearings" = international terrorist. I'm no expert but I'd say chances are just as good as it being domestic than international

I was talking about how it's always shitty things on the news these days.

Now this happens, and I'm completely pissed off. Stay strong Boston!

wow, 107 injured and only 2 dead? let's just hope the death toll stays that low. definitely don't want the terrorist/s to feel any satisfaction for what they've done

Wow, fuck fox news. I hope that doing that hurts them BADLY, I hope they fucking just disappear from television.

How often did people try to sneak a bomb into the Super Bowl?

I think most people overestimate our security. There's an inevitable risk with such events and there's little one can do about it unless we restrict freedom. A society should take a stand against these attacks, should do its best to help the victims and find the culprits and should do what's best against this, keep up values which have helped Western societies grow.

I don't disagree, but the Super Bowl at least had checkpoints where they check bags, etc when you come in. I don't think a marathon does.

Anyone with internet access can do that. This said, I haven't heard any confirmation that ball bearings were added to the explosives.

Exactly. You can't sneak a bomb into the Super Bowl, Fenway, etc. One of the country's biggest marathons? A lot easier. Hopefully that gets harder to do now. What an awful day.

Uh, it would be almost impossible to stop something like this. I live a block from where the marathon goes by. How would the police stop anyone from just walking up to the barricades and detonating an IED? They can't.

To commit terror. The reasons behind may be political or religious ideology but first and foremost is to wound and/or kill as many people as possible and to strike utmost fear into the masses. To show that the terrorists cannot be ignored and will not go away.

Well that is my definition, I am not going to sit here and debate it. As I came here for the news.

Yea I don't argue with that definition, but that's not how it's defined legally. Or else all the random school shootings would be considered acts of terrorism too. But whatever, this is clearly terrorism.

Apparently ball bearings are only outside the US, or so it would seem seeing some of the posts (AKA the congressman from texas...)

I just now found out about all this. Hadn't checked the news or anything and my God this is horrible. My heart goes out to you Boston. This is a horrible horrible tragedy.

To be fair this exact thing happened on my NBC feed except it wasn't just to the side they filled up the whole screen with the explosion video/audio mid-speech.
