Bombs detonated at Boston Marathon finish line

That is not right. I always feel safe in this country and I know the victims at Boston felt the same. I can't imagine what the victims and families are going through right now knowing how unfair that is. This isn't the time for us to be worrying about the attacker, leave that to whoever finds that out. It's time for mourning and helping the victims.

I would strongly question it too based on the injuries we've seen.
Ball Bearings would mean more wide spread injuries both on the body and across the street.

That and it's not some secret that only foreign terrorists know about... Wikipedia talks about some IEDs containing ball bearings.

In response to the explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, the Boston Symphony Orchestra postponed its 7 p.m. Monday concert, which was set to feature pianist Gabriela Montero and conductor Marcelo Lehninger in an all-Beethoven program. Among other events also cancelled or postponed: The sold-out Moth story hour event at Club Oberon in Cambridge; Rogue Burlesque at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge; author Adam Grant’s appearance at the Harvard Book Store; the comedy show at Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault.

Brett Baier from Fox still reporting that they have it from "strong sourcing inside the Justice Department" that a man is under guard in the hospital. He acknowledged the Police Chief's comment that no one is in custody, stating it does not conflict.

I have to say that Fox News showing the bombs exploding to the side while he was delivering his conference, and playing the audible of people screaming over his speech, was the poorest showing of news journalism I have ever seen.

Fuck my work for only showing Fox News.
Wow..

The label terrorism is usually reserved for political/religious aims. If a person went out in the street and stabbed/shot a bunch of people because he was fired and pissed off, that isn't a terrorist attack.

We don't know yet what the aims were in this attack, it probably is a case of terrorism, but it isn't always imo.

GAF's the best way to keep up on unverified facts and speculation. That sounds disparaging, but it's not; it's best used as a compliment to established and more trustworthy, if slower news outlets. If Devo wants to be a little behind the speculation but be more sure her facts are correct, she's welcome to F5 CNN every few minutes.

Or users making absurd comments such as:

It's tax day. I think there's a pretty good chance that these are tea partiers / survivalists

Smh

One of the doctors at Brighams Woman's Hospital (obviously they don't just treat women...) said that there's nothing to conclude ball bearings. They said injuries are pretty standard with most blast injuries where people get hit by nearby things when those things get damaged (such as splintered wood or other things)

2315: Officials with mobile telephone carriers Verizon and Sprint said they had received no requests from authorities to shut down service in the Boston area, contradicting earlier reports.
"Minus some mild call blocking on our Boston network due to increased traffic, our service is operating normally," Sprint spokeswoman Crystal Davis told the Associated Press.

Which explains my totally uninterrupted service (I'm on Sprint).

So what's the new meaning? Muslim acts of violence? Violence against America perpetrated by non-Muslims is now no longer considered "terrorism" and our "war against terror" is now just a "war against Muslims"?

I mean if that's the case, that's pretty disgusting in and of itself.

Pretty much, Sandy Hook wasn't considered "terrorism" in media, Aurora wasn't considered terrorism. It's weird semantics that just seem to hurt the conversation in general.

Just saw the video on the news, my heart goes out to everyone touched by this event. Jesus, some people are truly evil.

So, why the fuck the Boston Marathon? Any ideas?

Main reason probably is much less security than New York Marathon but similar effect,
reason also might be to want increased effect due to Boston not being targeted before. Want to create a feeling of not feeling safe anywhere in the US.

If domestic, it might be as simple as the perpetrator/s "being lazy" and doing it because they have knowledge and easy access to Boston areas.

ABC News or whatever it's called did it too. :/

The speculation culture with 24 hour news is so disgusting, it really is. It propagates fear and provides misinformation and can even hamper peoples understanding.

I agree with this, news is no longer news but some form of 'entertainment' now that it's 24. They just waffle on about anything and everything and most of it is just speculation.

Brett Baier from Fox still reporting that they have it from "strong sourcing inside the Justice Department" that a man is under guard in the hospital. He acknowledged the Police Chief's comment that no one is in custody, stating it does not conflict.

That means he could just be someone famous or a witness. If the two things don't conflict then it means he's not involved in the attack.

Stay safe Boston gaffers. Have they released the security cam footage of the guy dumping the backpack? Prayers to the victims.

So? That would still be a terror attack if it had political motivations.

To commit terror. The reasons behind may be political or religious ideology but first and foremost is to wound and/or kill as many people as possible and to strike utmost fear into the masses. To show that the terrorists cannot be ignored and will not go away.

Well that is my definition, I am not going to sit here and debate it. As I came here for the news.

Something of this magnitude is almost always ideologically or religiously motivated, so chances are that some organization or individual will step forward and take credit for it sooner or later. I have a hard time imagining this being the work of somebody who just wants to murder innocents and isnt interesting in sending a concrete message.

Exactly. You can't sneak a bomb into the Super Bowl, Fenway, etc. One of the country's biggest marathons? A lot easier. Hopefully that gets harder to do now. What an awful day.
