Downloaded, played for a couple of hours, don't know what the fuck I'm doing, had a great time! The only problem is my Black Mage has no "magic" attacks. Also can't help but laugh at the "run away" animation.
For "melee resistant enemies" I change his sword by a Staff and a Shield (YES, you can change your weapons IN COMBAT) and destroy everybody's ass with black magic.
You have to buy spell scrolls in town, but on the bright side they're shared between all party members.
I did buy some spells, maybe they're not a high enough level to use it yet or I'm just dumb.
Does the full game ease you in better to the combat etc ? Demo just seems to throw things at you.
Yes, the (optional) quests at the beginning are super basic "how to" tutorials. I agree, the demo just throws you kinda in there... would have made much more sense to have that tutorial stuff in there as well.

It's sort of odd how most of the world map encounters are your standard easy enemies who hit in the 20s and then now and then you come across a floating cat who one-shots one of your characters with a 3000 damage Aerora.
I see that you have encountered night time.
That's the thing! It's not a night monster, it's... the White Cait I think they're called? It's a normal encounter, I think they even drop the liver you're supposed to harvest for the first quest.
Ah, right, I must've forgotten. They should at least be quite simple to kill, right? I think other monsters drop the livers as well, at least.
ThanksI kinda expected that but just wanted to confirm, happened a few times with RPG demos.
...and actually, in the very beginning you can´t even use Brave or Default at all. The first battles are very basic. It´s actually paced very well. You´ll get introduced to Brave and Default very soon, though, so there´s no tutorial slog - the tutorial quests are all optional and very unobtrusive (consisting of stuff like "rearrange your party" or "use four brave attacks in a row", all stuff you can do whenever and whereever you please).
Games like the first Etrian Odyssey (let alone The Dark Spire!) were oldschool not only gameplay-wise but also in how obtuse they were, dropping you in the cold water without any big explanation. BD on the other hand really has all the modern ease of use elements you would expect.
Has anyone else been getting absolutely slaughtered or is it just me?
I started the demo on 'Normal', but these monsters are brutalizing my team.
The one lady in town recommended going to the cave to the west for some easy monsters to train on. I go over there, whole party gets blinded by a trap, then the lizard monsters start munching on my party. Barely made it back to town without wiping after two encounters.
Is....is this normal?
For the Brave/Default? Why not just do Brave 2-3 times to start every battle and win immediately? Not sure I understand the impact there.
So to get better weapons and open up new places, you have to do all those time things? Well, that sucks since I live in a small town and it'll be hard to get more than one person.
This 30 uses thing is still upsetting to me

Can someone provide a basic guide or advice for this demo? I chose my jobs, abilities, bought some stuff, went to the cave an npc mentioned and got butchered!

I just started recently as well, but IMO you should do quests in the overworld so you can get experience and money for equipment before you try any dungeons. You start off barely strong enough to handle the weakest overworld monsters.
Follow the quests. Don't listen to that maniac.
It's kind of infuriating but most people here either defend it or say it's not a big deal.
I think it says a lot about Nintendo that they even built in the option to limit a goddamned demo to X plays. No one else does this.

Does this have any form of co-op (not the demo, but the game in general)?
