This has to be sarcasm.
Does this happen a lot in similarly situated/developed countries across the globe?

Pretty simple imo - ban guns going forward, tax ammo heavily, institute a gun exchange program for a price that sets the incentive correctly.
You can't go take away guns from people who own them already, but thats the path.
This has to be sarcasm.
Not just tax ammo heavily, I love chris rock idea make bullets insanely price it will make most of those getting them think twice. We can have better background checks and I think people should have to take yearly or quarterly pshycological exams.
Banning guns isn't a solution it would start an internal war the government and this country doesn't want. The nuts are real and they have already pledged it happens they kill off a lot of people within our borders who don't side with them. The problem isn't the reasonable people it's the assholes who want to keep them and will cause problems as they are taken away.
Gun nuts will start a war if we let them keep their guns?
Get rid of guns please, I really rather this not be me or the people are care about :S

You said ban guns that can imply a lot.
You must have no awareness of alex jones gun nuts or conspiracy gun nuts on the subject. Not hard to find the theory floating about the un coming in and taking guns with their response to it. Not making it up go look and considering those are the people who would cause problems I doubt most people in this country are willing to take that chance of inciting them.
Well.. take that away that qualifier... what country is close? This wasn't said at all.

People won't start a war.
Ban. Fucking. Guns.
If you own a gun or support gun ownership, you contributed to this - harsh, but that's become my worldview.
As callous as it is to think or say, I hope the victims were white, since nobody cares when blacks or latinos die. But then again, nobody cares about white people either when they die by a random gunman.
Fuck this society who values guns over people...
That's not how political change works. Especially when half the country is against it.
We need tighter regulations. But after having babies slaughtered, I really doubt anything will happen. I thought that would be the breaking point, but the gun lobby only dug into their heels and their political allies did the same thing.
Yes, admittedly not a realistic view. But are "tighter regulations" realistic at this point either? Its just so disheartening. I just want gun owners to look inward and truly ask what they're holding onto and if its worth it for them.

Well, one guy didn't care for him. I'm calling it - a love triangle.Apparently the victim is Dr. Ethan Schmidt, a well-liked professor.

Yes because getting rid of guns makes sense to the criminals who have the guns. The gun control situation needs to calm down. A lot of areas with high gun rate have nothing to do with guns and can be fixed with society changes.

...wow, the bolded statement is incredibly disgusting. To dismiss the murder of someone just because they're not statistically significant enough to you... ... wow.
It is when there is an active shooter on the loose who has already killed two people so yes it is important.Do you actually think every single personal, targeted murder that happens every day is newsworthy?
To frame this as me being heartless is beyond disingenuous or at the least, entirely missing the point. It's obviously a tragedy but it is a personal and local one.
Yeah, the "hivemind" and "extreme liberal" bombs always make me chuckle. I've got news for you: when you have an extremely diverse community, including many from outside the U.S., that's what you're going to get.I will never understand why people come into threads they have no desire to hear about just to say "GAF GAF GAF" all day. I also don't understand why they'd spend so much time on a forum with so many people that have opinions they can't stand..boggles the mind.
That is barely the norm. Yeah people die all around the world but mostly from non-gun incidents. Take for example here in Australia, we had for the first time in a while a shooting in a public place in a McDonald's down on the Gold Coast of Queensland. It was between a ex-bikie who had the means of gaining access to a gun and his estranged wife.Breaking News: Single person murdered, GAF reacts like another Virginia Tech has happened
?
What is special about this? What does it have particularly to do with America? People are murdered every day in every country on earth. What evidence does anyone have that this was a shooting spree? The media only directly encourages this sort of overreaction by saying a "shooter stormed" onto campus. Nothing to support any of that.
Why what happens so often in schools? Many more single-target murders occur on the average street or business than in schools.

They also count school property as campus, even if its miles away from the actual school. A few years back there was a shooting in a parking lot that just happened to be school property, was like a dispute between 2 people. Media of course called it a school shooting to whip everyone into a frenzy.

Just your weekly dose.
People who use this excuse seem to act like illegal guns just materialize out of the air. The vast majority of these guns were purchased or stolen from either gun shops or gun owners. If those sources didn't exist, where are the criminals going to get their guns?Yes because getting rid of guns makes sense to the criminals who have the guns. The gun control situation needs to calm down. A lot of areas with high gun rate have nothing to do with guns and can be fixed with society changes.
Sounds less like a school "shooting" in the typical sense and more like the professor was targeted specifically. Also, the fact that I can say "school shooting in the typical sense", and expect people to know what I mean, is pretty fucked up.
NRA said:Deal with it
It's still a "school shooting" because it happened in a school. But by the FBI definition, it's not a "mass shooting" like you normally expect in a US school because there weren't 4 or more victims shot in quick succession.

Media is the problem really. Nothing else...

(AP) Man sought in professor's fatal shooting also suspect in death of woman he lived with.
It's remarkable how much that clarifies things, isn't it?Welp, I think I can guess the motive now.
