Broken Promises: A Closer Look at the PS3

Sony is not welcome on these boards anymore, and aparently the mods don't care about all the trolling and bashing anymore either.
So just do what I did, and leave. Let the xbots and wiitards have their fun, with noone's throat to shove it down, it won't be very fun will it?

:lol :lol wow

And even with all of these features that were cut it's still got more technology and is still a better value than the 360.

But dammit, I SOOOOOO wanted those 2 extra USB ports and that router ability that myself and 4 other people would use. Easily worth $800!

I can name a few things that were deal-breakers for me:

1. $600.
2. Tekken 6 is a joke. Never forget the target render!
3. GTA is no longer exclusive (not that I cared anyway...).
4. I can get Ridge Racer 6 on 360.
5. DMC is no longer exclusive.
6. Heavenly Sword, one of the system's most impressive offerings, is basically God of War with breasts. I'll take GoW2, thank you very much.
7. Not a GT fan. Never have been.

I'm sure there's more, but those are what immediately come to mind.
LMAO! :lol

1) Why would you want to buy the $600 version over the $500 version? Are you one of those hardcore consumers who just HAS to buy the most expensive version?

2) Tekken 6 will get a lot better. Tekken Tag was crap at first but then it got amazing and truly made the next-gen leap.

3) If you don't care then why is it a deal breaker?

4) LOL who cares about Ridge Racer? :lol RR7 is apparently coming out for PS3 exclusive.

5) DMC4 is 100% PS3 exclusive buddy. You are being duped by mistranslated article and retarded game sites.

6) Heavenly Sword >>>>> God of War + God of War 2. Wait for it...

7) If you are not a fan of GT then why do you care?

and btw. they can take that BluRay drive out and replace it with a CD drive. I heard 20-30 CDs are cheaper to produce than 1 BluRay disc, so they can keep the game prices between $57.80 and $59.60

Thats actually a bargain, considering a BluRay disc can hold close to 50 times the data of a CD.

Give the PS3 some time. It's basically changed its role from console to integrated home entertainment platform, and most people just aren't willing to accept that yet. They also go on about the paradox of wanting HD gaming (at least according to the anecdotal evidence in my "Is HD holding games back (visually)" thread), while saying that BR/HDDVD is useless and unwanted.

When the games start coming out, and people realise just exactly what the PS3 can do, along with a price drop or two and even greater HD penetration, I think the PS3 will start winning over people like the PS brand has done in the past.
You are confusing gaming with watching movies.

Haha. Yup, nothing but truth in this photo:

one question to the sony damage control force:

do you guys really believe that all the people bashing and making fun of sony now are xbots or n-tards? because - open your eyes - they're not. some of you guys claim that the "xbots on gaf have been revealed". i mean, how jaded are you that you can't imagine that some people are truly disappointed, can't afford the ps3 and are generally underwhelmed by sony's e3 presence? jesus, "sony is not welcome here anymore and now i'm leaving gaf"? what is wrong with you? this is all you can take? read this thread please.

The same BS happened with 360's pathetic E3 showing last year. People just tend to fly off the handle when news like this drops. Always happens and always will.

You're talking to people who love Metal Gear.

You sound really dumb. Playing Splinter Cell will do that to you, I guess.

Now make a really indignant response, and hopefully we can start an argument that'll get this thread closed!

Oh. So I'm mistaken in assuming that it would be most natural for people to engage in both forms of entertainment, passive and interactive?

If you have a HDTV, why would you want to pass up on either? Doesn't make sense no?

If you don't have a HDTV, why should you care about either? Shouldn't there be a consistency in what you rile against?

If you recognize that you'll at some point want to engage in HD gaming, then wouldn't it be consistent to want HD movies as well?

Unless you're going to tell me, without lying to yourself, that there are a lot of gamers that only care exclusively about gaming and not at all about watching any movies or shows.

Standard HDD, fuck yeah.
God I wish the 360 had had that feature,

What the fuck? You can get a standard HDD on the 360 for $100 less than the gimp version of Sony's PS3. Hell, you can go to Costco right now, and pickup a 360 premium, you know, the one with the standard HDD, two wireless controllers, a play and charge kit, and PGR3 for $485.

That's STILL $15 less than the GIMP PACK OFFERED BY SONY.

GET REAL.

Damn, how are we supposed to shut this nightmare down then?

I suggest everyone post pictures of crabs to cause massive damage to this historically accurate thread.

Some of you apparently, weren't around here prior to the PS2 launch. The PS2 got worse than this. From the Sega, Nintendo AND MS fans. This is nothing, and means nothing. THe 360 got is just as bad last year, and the Wii is a running joke that just invites ridicule.

This was coming from months ago. Whether the PS3 was a winner or loser, the backlash would occur regardless. Meh, it's no big deal. The price definitely deserves backlash, I have no problem with that. I'm just hoping the quality of the trolling improves significantly soon, or it's gonna be a boring 6 months leading up to the launch. After a couple of years, it'll settle down, especially if the sales war is decided early. PEACE.

He is referring to the fact that 360s can be sold WITHOUT the HDD and games are required (in general) to run without one. As a result, developers will be unable to fully take advantage of this useful hardware addition. It is not "standard" hardware on the XBOX360...

That whole argument is based on the assumption that Blu-Ray will be the format movies will appear on.

I watch movies. I play games. For $600 it's nice to do both, but I'm still waiting for that $600 game to be shown, and I'm going to wait and see whether a BLu-Ray player will actually be useful for watching movies.

By standard they mean every system has one guaranteed. That way developers can completely take advantage of it, instead of having to cater to the remote possibility of someone running a game without storage present. Exactly how much difference this will make in the long run is uncertain, though.

From where I'm standing, I don't see any developers having problems with the fact that the core pack of the 360 has no HD. However, they do have a problem with the pricing of the PS3, HDD standard and all.

If they don't have to worry about using it then why would they have a problem with it?

I think we've already seen some downsides to it...

360 games, in general, load significantly slower than XBOX games. Now, granted, the higher resolution assets are larger pieces of data and would take longer to copy over...but it is in that area that an HDD could help. Think of Ninja Gaiden. Once cached, the game basically had no loading at all (the entire world could be explored without seeing a loading screen). The caching process was lengthy (much more so using 360's BC, for some reason). Without it, however, there would likely have been additional load points throughout the game.

So did Bethesda lie about using the HDD to optimize loading?
So, how many developers ARE using it then?

Devs can program a hook to detect if an HDD is available and cache accordingly. I'd say the devs / pubs are more worried about a machine priced out of the mass market than some disc caching.

I'd expect loading times to get better on 360 when devs have had more time with the hardware. I dont remember first gen xbox games being load friendly and hell look at Burnout 3... built-in HDD did a lot of good there. :lol

well I'm not going anywhere. I plan to stick around to witness the "massive damage" to certain people's ego's once the PS3 shows up in stores this fall :)

Predicted response:
"Hmmm I thought the PS3 was supposed to suck?"
"hmm, and these graphics look better than the 360"
"and the console design...it looks better too".
"NeoGaf lied to me!!!!"

It did help, actually.

Burnout 3 and Revenge on XBOX loads 50% faster than both the PS2 versions of BO3/Revenge and the 360 version of Revenge.

*shrugs* He's right though, it was pretty bad around the PS2 launch. That video posted the other day with the DC talking to the PS2 gives a good idea of how it was. Having DoA2H release and look worse on the PS2 than it did on the DC only added fueld to the fire.

Well, those guys making that shitty looking GTA clone said that they couldn't have flying vehicles in their game because without a standard HDD they couldn't rely on the streaming being fast enough to support it. That's one, if you want to count it. Bethesda seemed a touch peeved, too, but I think they knew far before the public ever did that the HDD wasn't always going to be there.

Hey why isn't anyone complaining about the controller. They lied it doesn't look anything like what they originally showed:D

You're forgetting that people like Deadmeat were still around then. :P They couldn't compete with the hardcore Sega fans. They're a whole different level.
