Broken Sword 5 Gamescom Trailer

I just think that right now characters stand out too much when they are put against hand drawn backgrounds.
Let's see how the finished product will look like, most of the released screens are still WIP, especially the goat shot is a very bad example. As I said earlier the screens of the art gallery look way better, because this scene is practically finished. The characters blend into the background much better there.

I didn't play King's Quest, could you explain it?

The subtitle of KQ6 is Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow.
George says "hair today, gone tomorrow" when he adjusts the wig.

Though immediately after writing that post yesterday I realized that it may just be a pun on the phrase that the KQ6 title was also a pun of. But KQ6 is the first thing that popped to my head. :)

Been itching to show you this one - and now I can :)

ThereÂ’s been lots of people working on the game today, as weÂ’re locking a section of gameplay each and every week now. IÂ’ve done some interesting things very deep in the engine - mostly to catch strange scenarios and save debugging time later. I think theyÂ’re based on sound assumptions. IÂ’ll find out soon enough if theyÂ’re not!

Also, Simon is putting footstep sfx in. Makes a surprising amount of difference.

Enjoy

(please note - shadows still to go in beneath characterÂ’s feetÂ…)

Wow, it looks so phenomenal beautiful! Damn, I wish this game is already finished and I could play it right now.

Looks great to me. If we can get kickstarted adventure games that looks this good, I see a bright future for the genre.

I beat the first one on the Wii and thought it was pretty good. Are the sequels any good?

The second one, The Smoking Mirror, is just as good. Third one is worth playing, but it's very different than the traditional point & click adventuring of the first two games. It made the transition from 2D to 3D and was met with a very polarising response. Avoid the fourth one, unless you find yourself becoming an uber Broken Sword fan.

Just saw a few minutes of gameplay in action of BS5 and damn, this game looks so awesome! The backgrounds, the characters, the animations, the dialog, everything is top notch and is so beautiful.
But the real deal is the music by Barrington Pheloung! When it kicks in, it feels so epic, just like in the old days!

Can't wait until this game is finally released. From what I've seen this will be really the best Broken Sword game ever made.

Really hope its at the level of 1, or at least 2.

Supported the kickstarter for this. So glad one of my favourite series' can keep going.

Anyone else see the fat guy from the glease gallery in the trailer? God I hope Duane and Pearl Henderson make an appearance.

People are asking whether we have a release date yet – the answer, I’m afraid, is still ‘before Christmas’. Once we are absolutely confident of the date then we will let you know – I really don’t want to give a date and then miss it.

That was from a developer's diary last month. Game should be out pretty soon hopefully.

So wait. When is this game coming out?
No specific date given yet. Next week they'll do some more voice recording. After that the translation process will start (German, French, Italian etc.)
They said it will definitely be released this year, so I guess sometime in December it will be released. At first on PC and then shortly afterwards on the other platforms.

The first Broken Sword still holds up. The first time I played it was when it was released for Android. I absolutely loved it.

The story completely falls apart, but the dialogue is brilliant at times. Considering that the interactions with other people in the game are so well written, I found it a bit odd that the actual story in itself is clumsy and poorly written. The humour in the game makes it all worth it though.

Should be in the next 1-1,5 months, probably, if they want to the physical copies delivered before Christmas. I mean, they've been aiming for a Fall 2013 release for quite some time now and haven't indicated that they are slipping from that.
With the Alpha-Teaser they officially pushed it back to Winter 2013: http://youtu.be/3jQu1riTcYg?t=1m9s

And as mentioned earlier Charles Cecil confirmed in the last developer diary, that they aim for a release before Christmas 2013.

I doubt though the physical copies will be delivered before Christmas. I guess the game will be finished 1-2 weeks before Christmas and then the work on the physical rewards for backers will begin so they are ready to ship early next year.

EDIT:

Nico has her own inventory icon on screen, very cool! And look who is guarding the art gallery: Sergeant Moue, just like in the old days :D

Sorry for the triple post

Unsure of the perspective on that tree, but good screenshot.
That's interesting, someone else also pointed that out on Tony's blog some time ago. But I think it's okay, it's hand drawn after all and this is what makes it so charming because it's not perfect like 3D graphics for example.

I'm skeptical about them releasing before Christmas. Would be an excellent early present though! I forget every so often I'd even pledged money, so it's great.

Surely Moue would be bumped down to Officer for failing to notice his boss was a religious zealot?

Actually he faked his own death in BS1 because he was aware that he knew too much about the Neo-Templars. Some time after the events of BS1 he reappeared and resumed his post at the police. Furthermore he got a sudden promotion, as Nico tells George in BS2.

As hyped as I am for the game, the characters still look out of place in the scenes. Look at the above screen shot, Sergeant Moue and the background are rather blury whereas Nico is razor sharp.

Same goes for the "About time you two showed up" screen shot, look how sharp the table in the foreground is compared to the character standing next to it.

I see what you mean but I don't think it is that bad. You really have to look very closely to see that difference. And I think it's not so much of an issue when you actually see/play the game in motion.
To me the characters blend in perfectly into the backgrounds.

I could watch and listen to Charles talking all day^^

EDIT: Nearly forgot about that, apparently there will be some announcement tomorrow at 9am GMT :O The community manager at Revolution tweeted about it.

Every post in here should be the Shahid money gif.

Cant wait to play this game. Some of my favorite gaming memories involve the Broken Sword games :)

Ah it's been a while since I gave them a play! I absolutely can't wait for it. Is the music done by the same guy as the Director's Cut? That was truly awesome stuff.

Hopefully we get a release date tomorrow @9 ?

Yes, it's indeed composed by Barrington Pheloung who did the soundtrack for BS 1, 2 and the DC!

A few weeks ago Revolution showed a little bit of gameplay to some Kickstarter backers on a live stream and you could also hear a glimpse of the music. I was blown away by it, top notch music, totally Broken Sword like!
For me it is actually the music what makes a true BS game and this music made me feel like "Oh yeah, after all those years, finally a new true BS game!"

The piano in the hotel, but most importantly the chilling score whenver the murderer showed up; scared the shit out of me as a kid!

Also, should be getting that announcement in about a half hour...
