Broken Sword 5 Gamescom Trailer

It does look quite shooty from the trailer but I think they're just trying to make it dramatic.

This is pre-alpha footage which might explain why the art looks so bad in some places. Not sure why the animation is so lifeless.

One of my most anticipated games still, very happy to hear it's getting a Vita release.

Dude set yours. Love the art.

Fair comment but I was never a fan of the new 3D look, I would have preferred it to have a similar style to the original. I guess this is a mix of 1+2 and the 3D ones. My main complaint is the 3D models clash a bit too much with the hand drawn backgrounds.

Looks about as good as I hoped a low-budget BS sequel could look, I just wonder how much of a downgrade it'll have on Vita.

I'd have preferred high-res 2D art in the style of the first two games but I don't think it looks bad at all. Really looking forward to playing it.

Animating 3D models is just so much cheaper than hand drawing all animations, especially in high resolutions. They had to settle for 3D models and they made them look nice.

I'm not terribly enthusiastic, I tried to play the director's cut of Broken Sword 1 and the added scenes just killed the mood and the pacing of the original game, I'm not sure the team still has it what it takes.

I totally understand why they've used 3D models, and it makes sense. I just wonder if they was a better was to render them so they blended with the hand drawn/painted backgrounds better.

I share the worry about the way they butchered the original with the directors cut, all those casual puzzles did not fit well.

I have high hopes for this! I enjoyed 3 and 4, another Broken Sword adventure will always please me.

I think it looks quite nice. For a fan-funded new entry, this is even more than I was expecting to be honest. The visuals have a nice touch and the gameplay looks classic, assuming the writing is good too, and I am so glad I pledged.

I have high hopes for this but is it just me or does the animation look a bit poor? Whatever, it'll be the game that counts in the end.

For me it wasn't so much the new scenes as the apparent lack of hotspots to interact with compared to the originals, possibly in an attempt to streamline it for a more mainstream audience? The OG version of Shadows is one of the best classic adventure games to me; so stoked to see them seemingly realizing what made the first two games good and hopefully deliver on some of that. Can't wait to play this.

I quite like the art, the characters definitely look in tune with some characters from the first two games. Hoping for beautiful scenery and plenty of hotspots.

Looks great! Glad it's coming to Vita. I played the series first on the PS1, continued it on PS2 and will buy this for PS Vita.

The 3D animations are stiff as hell (if this was 2D the animation, becuase of the low budget I wouldn't have give a damn, but being 3D models, sorry but is horrible and they are plenty of excellent animators in France to get not one of the most expensive and still do a great job). The rest looks retty good. I really like Nicole's design.

I love the art as well, I think it looks very, very nice. I really like George and Nico's models and the hand-drawn backgrounds are gorgeous.

You realize generally 3D is cheaper and easier to animate right? It's not like 'hand drawn 2D' is the cheap choice here..

Ugly 3d and stifled animations... a mere shadow of the beautiful 2D work they put out over a decade ago. A tragedy.

Backgrounds look good though.

I didn't get deep enough in the DC version to make an assessment of the new puzzles, however the base game was very simple already other than the infamous goat puzzle. What bothered me were the added scenes that not only had worse writing than in the original game, added nothing interesting but also killed the Goerge-Nicole dynamic a little bit - Nicole was supposed to "work" and do nothing while George was uncovering the entire plot by himself because he fell in love in that hot chick.

Eh, animations in the first Broken Sword games weren't exactly disney-esque. I think you're using rose-tinted nostalgia glasses.

Horribly stiff animation makes me long for the 2D models and hand-drawn animation of the first two games, but outside the cut-scenes the game actually looks pretty good. Looks like traditional Broken Sword gameplay to me, which is what matters most. I just hope the script is up to snuff and George is as funny now as he was in the first three.

But here they do not belong on the scene.. they are floaty and the animations are badly timed. It just looks off to me.. like they rushed that part of development.

Cutscenes are the only thing bad I saw so far. The gameplay animations are nice. Still pretty excited, it's been so long..

I think people need to lower their expectations when it comes to animations, there working on a tighter budget. More interested in the puzzles, story and dialogue for these type of games.

I think you read badly what I said. I said, If they decide to do this stiff animation in 2D, as its expensive and harder to do (I know that, as we are making a game completely in 2D with handrawn animations), I wouldn't mind it so much (the stiff animations I mean), but using 3D models, were making lots of animations is infinite easier and cheaper, and getting someone, not godly, but much better that what they have right now, at not much cost its something plausible in France.

I think it looks fantastic, the scenarios and background are exactly what I would want from 3D Broken Sword. I don't know if the animation could be polished a bit but I think it looks really good.

I HAVE FREAKIN CHILLS AND I'VE JUST SEEN REVOLUTION

All dem feels right now. I am continuing watching it.

ed: I am prepared, but I would love them to get back to painted premade backgrounds.

Why would they get animators from France? The games may be set there but Broken Sword is British.

looks better then I thought...
I'll probably get this down the road.

You gotta love how the french title is:

The Knights of Baphomet: the serpent curse

while the english title is:
The serpents curse.
