Bungie ends development on Destiny 2

Sad Animation GIF by Holler Studios

Luke Smith did wonders with The Taken King, I was very fond of that game. When D2 started going downhill a few years after launch I felt that accelerated when Luke and others were let go

Trying to force the fanbase to move over to Marathon while keeping them with no new Destiny content for years till D3 is ready is such a fucking brilliant move by Bungie.

I'm sure it wll go over well.

It was only a few years ago though that Destiny 2 had a massive player base. The fault of it collapsing was perhaps more on Bungie than the game being old. Quite a few "old" games still have significant player bases.
As a player, it's entirely on bungie 100%. They completely fumbled the game, fumbled post tfs updates, and seemingly had absolutely no plans for a sequel. Then made a hardcore extraction shooter than even an idiot could've predicted was going to be too hardcore to attract a mass audience. Incredible incompetence

They have nothing in development. The article mentions they're beginning incubation for new projects. This company is a fucking joke.

Please forgive me for crashing out, but D1 and 2 gave me some of my most fun gaming moments online since 2014.

I was a solo player but wanted to play the group activities. I joined a clan, worked on getting over my general shyness with unknown people, and found a group of people who I legitimately loved playing with.

And they just killed the entire thing over fucking Marathon, a game almost nobody asked for. A game that peaked with abysmal numbers. Meanwhile the game that defined them since 2014 had hit its record peak like 7 or 8 years after it released. A series that had so much potential, wasted by fucking incompetent management and owners.

Fuck Bungie. PlayStation, close em. Please.
You'd think the logical step would be to have destiny 3 in the works so when D2 eventually fizzles out then they have a combo of marathon and soon to come D3.

Guess not. Maybe they thought golden goose D2 would last forever like it's a fortnite or Minecraft.

They should've had D3 in an early development / concepting phase back in like 2021 when they were planning for The Final Shape to end the big story arc they had been telling. This end of service message should have been accompanied by a "We will share the next adventure soon!" Instead of "we're starting to concept some stuff for unknown new games now!"
