Why would they mention Marathon in a Destiny blog post?
They already said whats happening with Marathon like I said. They don't need to inform joe public about staffing arrangements.Because "incubating new projects" is something that only your core senior/creative staff generally works on.
Presumably a lot of the less experienced programmers and other support staff would be transferred over to assist on Marathon if Bungie were keeping them around, and saying as much in a statement like this would help to quell speculation about layoffs and make the public feel more secure about the future of the studio.
Surely the main people at Bungie were not working on Destiny 2. Surely they've been cooking something up for a while now. And no, I don't mean Marathon.
Change your profile pic you utter bellend.
I'm actually fuming
In times like these there could be potential for another live threadBro i'm so getting your rank ass banned for this![]()
They took 100 off D2 to work on Marathon not long ago to up the number to 400, now we know why. Everyone else is/was on D2.Surely the main people at Bungie were not working on Destiny 2. Surely they've been cooking something up for a while now. And no, I don't mean Marathon.

Marathon hate is going to kick into overdrive.Past that, a lot of anger is directed toward Marathon, which has taken hundreds of developers away from Destiny 2, which has very clearly suffered badly for it. The extraction shooter had an underwhelming, below-expectations launch, and at the end of its very first season, is already putting up numbers well below Destiny 2's even with that game in the middle of its worst content drought in history. There will be many accusations that Marathon killed Destiny. It's more complicated than that, but yes, the shift in focus was definitely an enormous factor.
You're not wrong, but at least it didn't end abruptly. Almost 10 years is a good run.It was only a few years ago though that Destiny 2 had a massive player base. The fault of it collapsing was perhaps more on Bungie than the game being old. Quite a few "old" games still have significant player bases.
Like I said they went over marathon last week, theres nothing to say. These press releases aren't just for "joe public." They're also carefully worded to keep investors from getting restless. So what isn't said is often revealing.
I'm not saying that Marathon is cooked. I'm just saying that its omission here is worth noting.

The End Of ‘Destiny 2’: All Expansions Canceled, Maintenance Mode Incoming
Destiny 2 is dead. It will no longer produce content updates after this June, and will go into maintenance mode from here. The end of an era.www.forbes.com
Marathon hate is going to kick into overdrive.
We are definitely getting a Marathon documentary now.
That could mean anything like an anime series for destiny while the "shared worlds" (GAAS) go in another direction. D3 should've been in pre production before TFS. I don't know what the heck is happening at bungie but the momentum is gone. They really messed this up. I'm looking forward to what comes to marathon too though.Really? I got the oposite. This bit reads like they are already working on it.
"While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2."
Read into what you will i guess one thing is certain though if marathon doesn't start pulling its weight soon then anything they do have in pre production probably wont see the light of day because it sounds years away.
Eat my fucking shit, Bungie.
I played your dogshit post-TFS expansions because I love the gameplay. I waited fucking MONTHS through your radio silence while yall said "some cool stuff is cooking! We're jamming away!" And the cool stuff you were cooking was a fucking end of life article.
Just. Fuck. Off.
I hope PlayStation closes your shitty company, and I hope marathon, the thing you strangled and suffocated your actual successful game for, dies and is forgotten. Fuck yall.
Peace.
They'll begin incubating their next project ??.
So until at least like 2030 the only thing Bungie, the 3.6 billion dollar studio with around 800 employees, will have going on is Marathon? A game that only a small number of people are playing and is generating basically no income?.

Time to start updating those resumes everyone!!!

I really hate how Sony spent so much money on Bungie instead of investing in their existing studios and IPs.
We didn't get Days Gone 2 for fucking Concord and Marathon.
$3.6B for Bungie, and the studio has surely incurred more annual operating losses since then. Add it up and surely about $4B.I really hate how Sony spent so much money on Bungie instead of investing in their existing studios and IPs.

You could say Bungie just shot themselves in the foot.
They killed entirely all faith after The Witch Queen. They have nothing in development. The article mentions they're beginning incubation for new projects. This company is a fucking joke.
Please forgive me for crashing out, but D1 and 2 gave me some of my most fun gaming moments online since 2014.
I was a solo player but wanted to play the group activities. I joined a clan, worked on getting over my general shyness with unknown people, and found a group of people who I legitimately loved playing with.
And they just killed the entire thing over fucking Marathon, a game almost nobody asked for. A game that peaked with abysmal numbers. Meanwhile the game that defined them since 2014 had hit its record peak like 7 or 8 years after it released. A series that had so much potential, wasted by fucking incompetent management and owners.
Fuck Bungie. PlayStation, close em. Please.
Best video ever.
The game is highly likely already ported and ready to be published for a decade now, remember when they accidentally started selling D1's in-game currency on Steam? These fucking clowns couldn't even get D1 ported to PC.
The live chat was something to behold.Best video ever.
If anyone didnt watch it, this art director plagiarism dude had to wring off an apology about 15 minutes or so. Then the other guy did the talking for the rest of the hour. The guy above literally sat there stone faced for the remaining 40 minutes.
For extra laughs, the stream was only 3 people and they couldnt even coordinate audio and mics working between them. It was like the first time they ever set up a conf call.
LOL. Its a shame I didnt focus on any live chat as I was watching them talk. But just going on what you posted it looks hilarious. The live chat was something to behold.

I'm guessing they wanted to release a complete version on Steam to drive interest for the upcoming D2, but got cold feet and thought it would cannibalize D2 sales, and then there was the Blizzard app stuff.

Bungie sold Destiny 1 currency on Steam by accident… but they did put it there
Update August 16, 2017: Bungie have commented, but some questions are still unanswered. After Destiny 1's microtransactions currency appeared on Steam, Bungie's community manager David 'DeeJ' Dague has tweeted that it was an error, and reiterated that Destiny 2 is coming to PC exclusively througwww.pcgamesn.com
400 devs on Marathon, D2 maintenance mode, new "incubation" project(s) likely D3 in pre-production. What other information do you need?
Layoffs are absolutely coming. Be a bit shitty if they did it in a blog post.Yes, but my point is exactly that they didn't actually account for the future of their staff in this way. Instead you get a nebulous "incubating future projects" with no indication that they have anything in active production and no talk of transferring D2 staff to support Marathon. The natural conclusion for someone with zero additional context to draw is that this is a scenario where a lot of people are about to be unemployed very soon.
And if that's not the casr, then you want to indicate as much in your press release so investors don't freak.
They didn't have to announce Destiny 3, fwiw. They just had to add something about "projects in active/advanced development" to the incubation sentence and a throwaway line about how some Destiny 2 staff would be shifting attention to supporting Marathon.
Everything about this statement just screams "layoffs are coming" to me.
Why stop there? Cancel Fairgames, Heave Hulst the fuck out, then un-DEI-ify Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Santa Monica. Finally give all control to Sony Japan and get Nixxes on Bloodborne & Ico Remasters. Buy Capcom, Konami, Tecmo, and From. Refuse Microsoft ports so they can rot all the way to hell. Lolnext kill marathon and then close bungee down for good
