Bungie Weekly Update 07/16/10: You Can Haz Hype Now

Awesome update.
So I don't think I saw it mentioned: why is Emile's helmet still on for Firefight voice? Everyone else is shown without a helmet. Maybe Emile turns out to be someone we've heard of.
He's just a really ugly dude, if he did that to his helmet, just think what he could have done to his face. Kidding of course, he's totally the Japanese Bishi of the team.

"Professor Smith is in, and class is being taught!"

"Ugh, Assault Rifle, accidental pickup"
Gotta love how a person who works for Bungie openly expresses his displeasure with the AR. :lol

My guess is he got serious damage to his face, I kind of had that speculation when they showed that he had a skull etched into his helmet.

I prefer their final looks, even if technically they seem inferior, but the new pics have awful image quality so it's not a fair comparison.

The new version of Carter also seems, to me at least, to better resemble an older version of the kid in the "Birth of a Spartan" video. Given that they said there would be more of those videos to come, maybe they updated him keep consistency. Just a guess....

Could just be a different angle though. I remember thinking how well they did making Carter look in game damn close to the live action video before.

That said, the hair IS different too, so they probably did indeed do a little tweaking.

To me, it looks like the brow, nose and lips are all slightly tweaked from that early trailer version. And maybe I'm just seeing things, but those changes, if there really are any, seem to make him resemble the kid more. Perhaps once they found the actor for the videos, they adjusted accordingly. Who knows, I'm just guessing wildly.

So this is the third Bungie game in which the initial reveal looks better than the final game?

I would have thought they would have learned their lesson from the Halo 2 E3 trailer. Don't show off stuff that you won't be able to achieve when the game ships. I swear, their visuals always seem to take a dive the closer a game gets to release.

The cut scenes always look better than the in game stuff. Aside from that, they don't look much different to me, and they're completely different pics, stupid to even make a comment like that based on those comparison shots.

But who am I kidding, the only time you pop in here is to say something stupid and disappear for months. At least be consistent, like EazyB.

Also, playing Halo for graphics, you're doing it wrong, etc. etc.

Carter looks younger now. He used to look grizzled and battle-weary. TBH, I liked that more. As for the others, I can't tell the difference.

lol sai

Could have a lot to do with the fact that the lighting is completely different in the two shots.

Carter's model was altered slightly, not for quality, but our own preference, and the opening cutscene looks the same as it did when we initially debuted it running in engine, barring some changes that were made to obsfucate the story arc.

Really? To me it seems that Carter's a bit older. Must be the hair. :lol

Also, sai, reading that in your sarcastic voice makes that post. :lol

But I liked the bumpy armor better!

The picture with the helmet stuff... That's not all the helmets right because I don't see security in there.
That's the initial set. More unlock as you level up.

yep, definitely seems like it. I already like the ad more, since now I can actually see Carter in the kid.

Nice. A bit hard to believe it looks the same since in the debut video everything looked extremely hi-resolution and the lightning was too good, like a CGi movie at times, but if you say that, means it looks good enough. :)

Excellent update. I'm as intrigued as some of you to find out what that "blank" Firefight voice is. Also I guess there could be more voices to unlock, just like the pieces of armour?

Aww.. not the colors! I hope it is just the lighting from the menu that altered the colors.

Also, anybody going to ComicCon. I am willing to pay for that Recon helmet. Just name a reasonable price.

Most of those helmets kick ass. I think I'll purchase the one in row 2, column 6 first.

I'm hoping for a helmet variant that incorporates a gas mask-like breathing apparatus, preferably with a big round filter centered under the visor. It'd complement my matchmaking icon.

I want the Security helmet to be an unlockable base variant so I can add cool stuff to it.

Not sure how I feel about the Grunt Birthday Party kill effect (assuming that's what it is) being in matchmaking. Even though Halo isn't about gritty realism, bursts of confetti falls a bit too far on the silly end of the spectrum for my taste.

So initial armory unlocks means what we have from the start with no credits spent right? or is it what we can buy?

I don't see the Mark V helm.

Just got to read the update now.

Seriously.
That 5 hour playthrough of Winter Contingency, is good news, amazing infact.

EOD helmet here I come!
Cortana firefight voice? Hell freakin' yes, non-stop, all the time sexiness.

Want full "The Copdahl Chronicles" a.s.a.p. :D

Those are the options available in the Armory initially, but not free. Pretty sure you with jack squat: default; everything will need to be purchased.

Random note about the BWU:

This week we hosted a slew of worldwide media folks for a big hands-on preview with a huge chunk of Reach. During their stay our guests got to play two and a half campaign missions, several new MP maps, a new game mode and Forge. The bad news is that most of the fruits of that visit, including all of the campaign coverage, won’t be surfacing until the first week of August. The good news is that some of what we showed will actually be coming out next week including a boat load of new screenshots and even some direct feed video. Did I already mention that next Thursday was shaping up to be HUGE?!
I think of the game modes as being campaign, firefight, MP and Forge; game types are variants within those modes. I'm thinking Sketch was referring to a new MP game type, but the wording has me wondering.

Alrighty, that's cool then.

I still can't tell which of the helms is the one they were using in the RvB video...is it the one to the left of the EVA?

Have you played 1 vs. 100? It features a blonde-haired female avatar named "Jen". I mean I know that's not much to go on, but she has a pretty recognizable voice.
Yea I used to play it on a regular basis. I never even gave it any thought lol, oh well. I guess really am a multiplayer guy hahaha.

I'll go to the gamescom. So if i get several codes, you will get one for free.

Great update. Too much to read. Too much hype. Btw. I hope Mr. Buelterman and Mr. Burlington finished the complete campaign demo with all skulls on. I will have some fun with friends when all campaign skulls are on. I should reserve me one week for this campaign playthrough.
