Yeah, those dirt people that live in the IE can all go to hell.
lol, CLEARLY you haven't been to the High Desert (where every other property near I live grow pot...or makes Meth. Besides...I am Libratarian, don't generalize! =p

Isnt that a really high tax?

Wouldnt people still grow it illegally to avoid the tax?

Im pretty sure pot is easier to grow at home than making rum.

Mass production would crush any price increase caused by taxation.

It's not gonna happen, not this soon anyway. DEA is still lead by the bush appointed guy. I think Obama said something about stopping them from stepping in on State laws regarding MJ but until that happens this is pointless.

Then how would they generate revenue if it isn't legal...

The same way speeding generates revenue in spite of being illegal: you get caught doing it (or possessing it for non-medical purposes), you get fined. Massachusetts passed a law doing exactly that just last year; it's currently in effect.

When is this future? Are we working with a time line here? Or, did he just say that he doesn't want them to happen?
The future is now.

Speaking at a press conference with DEA administrator Michelle Leonhart, Attorney General Eric Holder declared that ending medical marijuana raids ”is now American policy.”

A reporter asked, “shortly after the inauguration there were raids on California medical marijuana dispensaries…do you expect these to continue?”, noting that the President had promised to end the raids in the campaign.
Holder responded, “What the President said during the campaign…is consistent with what we will be doing here in law enforcement. He was my boss in the campaign….He is my boss now. What he said in the campaign is now American policy.”

Not at all.

When I lived in LA it was amazing that I could literally walk into a "clinic" and pick from a list of about 10 different kinds of marijuana ranging from $35 per eighth to $100 per eighth. I could also buy brownies, hash oil, fruit strips, Kool-Aid mix, along with a bunch of other shit. It was literally like living in Amsterdam. It was sooooooo easy to get a medical recommendation it wasn't even funny. They did a special on the radio where this lady went into a medical marijuana "clinic" and said that her feet hurt because she wears high heels and she needs to smoke pot. They gave her a license without even blinking.
:D :D

And lil smoke, I used to smoke and a good portion of my associates smoke. It's not like I'm not familiar with the perspective. But I still hope that most of them have enough common sense not to profess jealousy of people who have intimate relationships with A PLANT. Even the most wacko, tree hugging, appleseed planting botanist would sound a few brain cells short. You plant the seed, you water it and provide it with light, you take the leaves. Leave the emotions for a significant (human) other.
Sounds like you don't have an appreciation for life itself. Ever enjoy the sunset?

I do find beauty in things other than humans. I am an artist, so that might have something to do with my consciousness. Actually I think humans are on the low end of the scale.

Seems silly to me that Alcohol is widely available and accepted and abused, yet no one gives a shit.

I think you just need to phrase the question better. It shouldn't be "should we legalize pot" it should be more like "should we legalize pot to stimulate our hurting economy by creating jobs, saving money on prisoners and spreading joy throughout our great land."

Fools wouldn't even hear the pot part. More jobs and joy?! Fuck yes, I'll take two!

Actually, Obama has been fairly vocal about being in favor of decriminalization. This may end up happening at the federal level.

Wouldn't this cause a crazy battle between the state and the federal government?

I was thinking the same thing. Passing this would be like California just sending the FEDs the middle finger. I mean ... taxation of a federally illegal substance! :lol

I hope it passes.

I wonder if this would have any affect on labor laws in California.

Like has been said before in this thread, by me:D , CA has already given the Feds a big middle finger with prop 215.

Hey I'm in school right now so I can't really read the article, but when is this supposed to be voted on?
