Call of Duty Ghosts Next-Gen Gameplay

Seriously. Heaven forbid a gamer wants to actually shoot something in a freaking Call of Duty game. No, let's just walk around for five minutes and look at the pretty destructible scenery that half this game's budget was undoubtedly spent on.

Why will it matter? A shit game is a shit game no matter how purdy the graphics are.

I agree, but those sorts of games can be enjoyable once in a while. But if there aren't any upsides like graphics then what else does it have going for it?

Honest question: at this stage of popularity and next gen, is there any excuse for CoD MP NOT to deal with rampant hacking and audacious lagging? Just use dedicated servers (check from both Sony and MS, this time), better net code and better anti cheat code.
Isn't it that simple?

But that costs money...

I've spent a lot of time in the back of a taxi in GTAIV.. A game doesn't necessarily need spraying bullets in every direction adhd-style. "Confining" the..."player"...in various ways isn't necessarily a bad thing.. I have many great gaming experiences from that. Anyway, this CODG sequence reminds me, the sniper level in MW. And that level is infamous, for a reason, and this sequence is following that recipe in many ways when it comes to the pacing and atmosphere. It would be crazy for IW to stray away too much from the formula, because a lot of people enjoye it. That's why it's there. And why shouldn't it be. I for one enjoy their way of trying to add the extra detail in the atmosphere in places where you don't even have to to have full control. Like I said; I enjoyed taking in the "atmosphere" in GTAIV from the back of a taxi, so I also shamelessly enjoy these kinds of levels.

Doesn't matter if they are are making a ton. If they can make a little bit more by not fixing non-essential things then they will.

I understand, but I think that business view is too limited, too shor sighted. Look at how they ran Guitar Hero to the ground and how, to an extent, WoW is shrinking (no growth projected anymore?). CoD has been growing (although that growth is slowing down recently), why risk running it to the ground? This is not about making it more like game X or Y. This is about giving more freedom to the creators and artists. Anyone can tell that the CoD devs have passion by playing their SP campaign. Say what you will about it, but it takes passion and dedication to pull that shit off at the time limit. I think the more they translate of that into the MP, the better game they will have.

Also, they can add much more robust MP features and stat collection to pave the way for e-sports integration/support. I mean, why not make it easier IF there is potential?

Finally got a look at the video at a decent resolution and... there really isn't that much gameplay. They could've at least shown what a firefight looks like.

Another reminder of why I'm so utterly bored of Call of Duty's brand of single player. I'm supposed to be riveted and thrilled by what they're showing, yet I'm utterly bored. Even though I'm seeing this for the first time, I feel like I've already played it countless times. Knowing how hollow and weak CoD's gunplay feels, I have no interest whatsoever.

There's simply too many players for them to use dedicated servers. Just on XBL alone, the past three or four CoD games are in the top 10 most played/active list with millions of users. Factor in all platforms and it's absolutely not cost effective from a business standpoint.

Additionally, dedicated servers will NOT stop lag or the infamous lag compensation problems that are the most outspoken problem in the CoD series. It's a software issue that the developers need to address, but it's unlikely it will ever happen since the game sells so well even with these problems.

One thing I will say is IW has at least always acknowledged the issue and tries to adjust it in every patch. Treyarch on the other hand has NEVER acknowledged it as a problem and instead pinned the blame on the consumer and their ISP - that's on top of their smug, disgusting attitude about the issue. I learned my lesson with BO2 - no more Treyarch games ever again.

Serious question: were people super impressed by the All Ghillied Up mission in MW1? Like to the point they want to keep seeing it redone in every Call of Duty, sometimes multiple times per game?

Yeah.. I agree. They try to make it intense and exciting but they forget to do this through gameplay.
It's really boring.

I'm sure the multiplayer will be a blast for many, but CoD Single Player hasn't wowed me much since MW1.

Looks ok I guess. Just looks like COD. After seeing their reveal on May 21st I knew the graphics wouldn't blow me away but I was expecting a bit more.

Yep - everyone looooves sniping. Ever heard of Sniper: Ghost Warrior? It's an absolutely shit game with tons of tech issues and some of the worst reviews in history, but it sold over a million units and got a sequel. Despite being equally as shirty as the first game, the sequel sold just as well.

I like it.
I always enjoy the Infinity Ward games, I hate the games from the other company (Black Ops, World at War, etc).

I look forward. The graphics seems better. And Riley seems cool to manage.

The only thing I said when I clicked on that video was "Please don't be a turret sequence or underwater".

Of fucking course.

What a adulation...

The Underwaterlevel is the same scripted cycle we have seen many times before just a different setting.

Not very impressive looking. They started the current gen with such a bang in cod 4. doesn't look like they'll be doing the same with next gen. I'll reserve judgement until the MP reveal but if their main innovation is customising character appearance I think I'll pass, Thanks anyway

I think it looks better than the footage they showed at E3. Then again, even in 720p those videos are blurry as fuck so it's hard to tell exactly how good it looks.

Went back and watched the second half. Graphics look really good in my opinion. The Battlefield 4 video might look better, but that was running on a $1000 graphics card. COD will probably be the best-looking 60fps game when next-gen consoles launch this fall (I still think BF4 is gonna be 30fps but I could be wrong).

They'd have to figure out a way to let people host private servers for Xbox One games under certain guidelines (the ability to do that would really distinguish the XBL Gold subscription), or at least enter a deal with third party groups like GameServers.com.

Idk, looks exactly like current gen. What a disgrace. Game makes millions and doesn't see any money invested on it.

I always wonder this too. If the game is always being mentioned as top seller and makes so much money, why does the graphics always look unimpressive. They don't have to be Uncharted 2 graphics, but I at least want to see that they are trying.

It's the all ghillied up formula but under water. Boring to me. Also I don't think the dog would have survived in real life. In stead of shooting the dog they put the gun up in the air and run away. Plus the dog kills them entirely too easy. It's like instant death. I don't doubt a big German shepherd could take me down but I don't think I would instantly die.

Given that there are jaggies in these bullshots, I'm guessing they're going for more effects as opposed to IQ.

The game is going to run on both PS4 and XboxOne. XboxOne does not have the hardware to draw all of that geometry and have high IQ. I don't think PS4 can go balls out MSAAx8 and AFx16 either.

It's encouraging to me. The level of detail, draw distance, physics, etc, all noticeably improved. Should create new gameplay possibilities (yes, outside of COD too) and scale beautifully on PC.

A new engine not only takes years to create, but would change the overall 'feel' of CoD, and there's no way Activision is going to take major risks like that. It's still the best selling series to date and sales aren't showing signs of vanishing anytime soon, so why would they even attempt to fix what's not broken.

They'll get away with it again this generation, but there's no way in hell they can continue using the IDT3 engine after this.
Yay, someone who's realistic for once.

As the stakes get higher, losses loom larger. In game development you always have to triage development by risks and rewards. Low risk, high reward is obviously best; high risk, low reward is worst. A new engine falls under high risk, high reward--but when there's a plethora of the former to do, there's really no point.

It's also not easy to get that CoD feel down. How many other games have tried to do it and succeeded? I don't know of any.
