It is, though. The IW Engine is a heavily modified version of id Tech 3.It's not the same engine though...
I can't help but say COD looks better then I expected but it's still not next gen worthy.
I played all 3 games on the highest settings with AA off because my rig can't handle that.

Technically they are both the evolution of GLQuake engine. And that shows somewhat in such things as a lack of asset streaming in both engines for example. I am very fond of the "photorealistic" approach though I can take the stylized Borderland type game in small quantities.

The game's IQ actually did bother me, but even then I wouldn't say this pic makes justice to the game running.

They're two different ways of doing the exact same thing. Downsampling is just really costly.The problem with downsampling. Is that you also need to pair it with some good AA otherwise DS by itself only provides good IQ and poor AA.
4xSGSSAA+2x2 OGSSAA(Downsampling) is a sight to behold.
Those shots from BF4 look very far from being on highest settings. The texture quality is really bad oO
