Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hype/News/Info Thread (PC Dedicated Servers)

I wonder if PS3 will get dual login this time.

What a mess that was. I still remember how excited everyone was on the PSblog when Treyarch's community manager posted a FAQ that mentioned dual log in. A few hours after that it was removed from the FAQ without an explanation.

In case you guys missed it before, I did a MP overview video. Just got put up on Machinima where I updated a couple topics and added new MP footage.

If you need a quick 7 minute recap of almost everything from MW3 multiplayer, give it a look :>

Awesome vid, just one tiny nitpick, the 9 kill assault pointstreak is a Strafe Run, not a Strafe Gun. The Death Streaks Dead Man's Hand and Hollow Points apparently give you last stand with C4 and more bullet damage respectively. Otherwise a great vid and great breakdown, keep up the good work!

Has the playlists for MW3 been hinted or discussed? I'm hoping Mercenary Moshpit makes a return in MW3 (
And is more populated that BO's Playlist is currently
).

So after watching the tourney this is what I like and dislike.

Like:

  • Less deliberate camp spots
  • Killstreaks not kill-centric
  • Higher weapon damage, which will at least compensate for inconsistent hit detection
  • Lower grenade launcher damage
  • No famas
  • Reduced knife lunge.

Dislike:

  • UAV-controlled thing, potentially
  • Quick scoping
  • Gun sounds, which don't sound too realistic
  • Picking up a dog tag, but your teammate still gets the same points. I thought the idea was to discourage camping and give them an incentive to move? If you pick up the dog tag, only you should get all the points.
  • Death streaks. If Final Stand lasts for a shorter period of time though, I'm happy.

The gun sounds are actually quite a lot more realistic. You can hear the change in audio design philosophy from MW2 especially with guns like the UMP and ACR 6.8. The shots are much more of a sharp crack than they were in the last game.

The spec ops survival section of this video is a great overview of the guns compared to most of the multiplayer gameplay. The SCAR-L, new ACR and the new Colt rifle actually sound like high caliber assault rifles with a realistic assault rifle rate of fire, and the MP5 has a much wimpier sound which is accurate to it being an SMG. In Modern Warfare 2, guns like the ACR and M4 were so high rate of fire and sounded so similar in scale to the MP5K and UMP that without knowing which sound matched which gun, you probably couldn't tell which were ARs and which were SMGs.

that would generate way too much drama in pugs imo

Isn't that encouraging people to move though? And plus if only the person picking up the tag gets the points, you'll have people running around just picking up tags from other players' kills

MW3 to feature LAN support

and not a single fuck was given because LAN support is overrated nowadays

other features are good for COD community though

Infinity Ward’s confirmed that the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 will have LAN support. Studio comms boss Rob Bowling spilled the news in a tweet: “Yes, #MW3 has LAN along with detailed class restriction control + default class creation option.” He also specified how those restrictions played out, adding: “Ability to restrict any weapon, equipment, perk, deathstreak, secondary, attachment, ANYTHING from being used when setting up game,”

Nothing bad about options son, options are good. I'm sure there are afew thousand people out there who participate LAN parties that would take advantage of this.

Has anyone been able to confirm if Scavenger (at least non-pro version for now) refills Grenade Launcher ammo?

I know explosives have been nerfed, but I'm just curious.

I need to know this too because you only carry claymore, Scavenger Pro took long to get in BlackOps and was pretty useless!

Scavenger pro made MW2 a claymore camping tube fest. I hope it has been nerfed or it will contradict what Mr. Bowling has been saing about getting back to gun on gun combat.

What about console versions? If I remember correctly the PS3 version of COD4 did allow system link? I'm not sure if the games have kept it up since then.

Have they addressed why quick scoping is still in? I don't know one person who thinks it's a good idea or works as intended.

Yeah I am really pissed by this...

Well not as much pissed as disappointed.

They pulled out all kinds of crap because it was ´overpowered´ but left in the only thing you can´t counter against...

Pisses me off more than anything being killed by a quickscope because there really isn´t anything you can do about it. Against nade spam and stuff you were able to wear a flackjacket, but quickscope is just retarded. It´s a fucking shottie with infinite distance. Absolutely nuts. As if a normal soldier would use a sniper rifle in that way... argh!

Starting to think that Treyarch is the superior COD studio...

I'm not really sure why people don't like quick scoping. The only people that can take advantage of it are those with fast reflexes anyway, in which case they deserve to get the kill. There's sooo much worse shit in these games than that like the ability to carry 2 primary weapons, noob tube/frag abuse, etc.

Noobtube abuse is currently killing my enjoyment in revisiting MW2.

Originally, I put about 100 hours into MW2. After putting about 90 hours in Black Ops since then, and now recently going back to MW2, I gotta say I'm really not looking forward to game speed and weapon damage in MW3 being similar to what it was in MW2 (as the video on this page claims).

After so much Black Ops, it's quite a shock going back to MW2. You die so quickly. Everything happens so fast. I hate it.

Are there any PS3 or PC users in the Call of Duty Elite Beta or is it still just XBox 360 users?
Does anybody know after Call of Duty Elite has come out of beta that all clan names and groups will be reset, or will all the millions of XBox 360 users that signed up get to keep there clans and groups, before PS3 and PC users get a chance to use the service?

Well you can't counter it, noob tubes for instance you can defend against with flakjacket. And witches you can kill before they close in on you...

Quick scoping on the other hand can't be defended against. It's a shottie-style 1-shot 1-kill at medium or long range... utter bullshit. While I am aiming down my iron sights of my AR there is some jackass 500 feet away who does some button flicks within a few tenths that kills me no matter what.

And I would argue it isn't necessarily a skill but rather a trick.

Next to the fact it looks ridiculous and isn't even close to how the weapon is used in normal battle.

I'm in the 360 beta and you can only make groups. Clans and stuff like that were not shown as they'll be activated for MW3. I would imagine any groups already made would remain in the final release.

I hate they are nerfing explosive damage when it's the ONLY counter to quickscoping.

Having powerful explosion that actually kill wasn't the problem in MW2, it was being able to spam them non-stop.
In fact MW1 had the same problem with spamming hand grenades.

Agree 100%. Honestly assumed it would be one of the first things they fixed from the last one. Really disappointing.

Exactly. I thought because blops removed it it wouldn't be in.. but I was wrong..

It seems to me they are catering to the wrong people... the small percentage of people who do MLG stuff and own the shit with Quickscoping instead of the broader audience.

I usually rank up a pretty good score (2.something ratio's aren't a problem normally), able to get the highest killstreaks, so that's where I get my fun from. But imagine just being a normal 'Bro' who plays this game casual and you get owned totally owned by something as ridiculous as quickscoping by some guy with too many i's and z's in his gamertag.

So I tried MW2 again, god damn that game is too hyper. Constant air support, constant threat of quick scopers, constant explosions...and the freaking blast shield doesn't protect you from anything. Ground War in MW2 is unplayable.

Black Ops is a zen version of MW2.

The MW3 UMP sounds like a BAR from WW2 movie. They sound more Hollywood than documentary sound stage. I have to find more videos I've been very disappointed so far by the gun sounds in this game. I still feel Black Ops had a lot better gun sounds.

I doubt they'll make the mistake of letting people replenish them or at least keep it so you can only have one active at a time.

They should fix the glitch that keeps claymores in existence 'til you respawn; they should vaporize the moment you die.

I wouldn't mind seeing C4 being replenished, though, since the Riot Shield's back and you can pair it with Blast Shield.

Pretty sure that if it's been around for 4+ games, then it's not a glitch.

What are the chances that MW3 won't suck like BOps on PS3? The framerate of BO was insulting. They should have just dropped it to a locked 30. I returned my copy for a refund because of it. MW2 MP on PS3 was great with regard to framerate so I hope MW3 is the same.

Can't please everyone... I personally prefer this mechanic, and I see myself playing it more often than standard TDM.

When it comes down to it, the modes greatest strength is that it FORCES teamwork in a game where standard TDM basically results in the team with the best individual player(s) wins. At least this way, you don't get those aggrevating moments like in gears where you down a player right next to you and some random teammate on your team who is a step closer to the downed player steals the execution even though you are right there to claim it.

I just hope the mode doesn't become Bad Company 2 style Rush maps where it is an entire team of snipers doing nothing but boosting their K/D. At least there is no Nuke Killstreak to reward said players into a victory by default.

Quickscoping relies on auto-aim. So "fast-reflexes" on a sniper often beat out AR shots that are carefully aimed because both shots will hit their targets due to auto-aim. And then the "sniper" wins because his bullet is a one shot kill.

I'm not crazy about a bullet flying around the curvature of spacetime because of an arbitrary help system built into the game. It becomes a game of the quickscoper trying to hit their win button before you can fire off a couple of shots to disrupt their aim enough so they miss their shot.

I disagree. I don't think the UMP sounds "beefy" like a light machine gun, I think it sounds a lot more deadly than it did in MW2, but not so much so that it approaches the sound signature of the new assault rifles. In MW3 it should damn well have a loud crack compared to the MP5 and P90, it fires a .45 ACP round which is fucking enormous.

ugh

on the one hand i don't wanna support activision, on the other hand they're really doing a lot to get pc gamers back

Can any confirm whether the following is true regarding Specialist killstreaks...

- You cannot see any type of uav that any of your teammates call in

- Hardline will have no effect so you'll still need to do 2,4,6 instead of 1,3,5.

I've been going through the pages to find some videos but I figured I'd ask just in case I missed something good. Is there any video out there that you guys think is a must-see? I want to get on the hype train! :p

Also, how many map packs do you think they'll have within a year? Will they have two so that year of Elite is a good deal or will they have one pack and then have another that comes out right after the one free year of Elite is over with from the Hardened Edition?

Edit: Wait, is there even a Hardened Edition on PC? I can't find a single mention of it on any site and other people are asking about it here. I guess there isn't one which is a joke. At least we get dedicated servers on PC which should have been a given to begin with, lol.

Still no word yet on whether Price/Soap will appear? I think the answer to that question will ultimately decide whether I end up getting this – I adored the COD4 SP campaign, and thought MW2 was pretty good too, albeit a little too over the top..
