Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Review Thread

Damn, still on the fence. The reviews are there and the campaign looks enjoyable but I just don't see myself investing in the MP.

Great reviews!

guess im just going to play single player and then sell it again. dont care about the mp but i just wanna have an enjoyable campaign.

Higher scores than I expected.

Looks like Infinity Ward are still capable of making the same quality game as they were before all the shit hit the fan. I look forward to Friday when I can play it!

89 is justice?
Better than it being overhyped overscored tripe, isn't it?
I'd rather have an 89 than a 94, which is what i was afraid this game was gonna get.
Still a far cry from true justice, but hey, it's a start.
Note that I still love playing Call of Duty, but I am fucking TIRED of playing the same game over and over and over again, not just in the form of yearly COD releases, but also because every big game these days is a shooter, and plays exactly like Call of Duty.
Maybe things will go back to normal now, pre Modern Warfare 2 era.

Didn't black ops score similar and was the 'biggest game ever'?

I think CoD games have reached a point of anomaly where scores don't matter.

Heck, I don't even think marketing matters at this point.

Then maybe people will realize that they just paid $60 for the same game running the seventh year in the row, and maybe they'll call bullshit on this one.
I have at least one friend, an ardent Call of Duty player (prefers Battlefield though) who decided to give Modern Warfare 3 a skip 'on principle' for that exact same reason.
I can only hope...

The metascore will do NOTHING to decrease the popularity of this franchise. Sales are the best review scores to publishers.

Until it stops selling, maybe because quality decreases (a metascore of 80 is still a good game), you can expect to see 'every big game these days to be a shooter.'

same game 7 years in a row? CoD 2-3 + WaW were all set during ww2!

thought destructoid would be the one to give this a 5. pleasantly surprised

You forget who's doing reviews for Dtoid. It's Jim Sterling. I wouldn't trust his reviews to be honest. Most of the time he gives low scores to good games, and high scores to bad ones...not sure if its an attempt for hits or whatnot, but his KZ3 review pretty much summed it up that he scored it highly because he was (then) good at it.

Not saying the 9.5 isn't warranted, just that don't put too much stock into their reviews. I know I don't. Same with everything 1UP and Call of Duty. Tina Sanchez should NOT be allowed to be near anything CoD...she'd give it an automatic 10 just for name alone. Ugh.

Not harping on the game. I'm kinda glad it's getting awesome scores...kinda makes my way of thinking that Treyarch is still numero dos a valid one.

I did not like Black Ops. Janky, guns sounded cheap and I just had more fun in MW2. I might try MW3 just because it's NOT made by Treyarch.

Only hope that Killstreaks, Perks won't be abused in a few weeks' time. Hopefully, it's as balanced as it claims to be.

So it's sub 90 on Metacritic.
Justice. At last.
Maybe FPS's will die out now. About fucking time.
Yeah! 89 instead of 90, damn losers!
9 million pre-orders instead of 10 million, such low sales! Take that Activision and the FPS genre!

See now, that sucks. It blows.
I'm really hoping Call of Duty begins to fizzle out. Then, at least Activision will work hard to reinvigorate the series (which is something I want, because CoD at the top of its game is unstoppable, look at CoD4), and other publishers will shift their focus away from FPS's to the next big fad in gaming.
Which I suppose I will get similarly sick of in a few years' time.

I know you are being facetious, but my point is that every game in the series has played roughly the same.
EDIT And shit, it's back to 90

wow no way this can score perfect on the graphics point. Not only has it never changed graphics, it looks ugly.

+ the scripted events are just annoying. Are the endless spawning enemies still there?

i find it hard to find fault with a series for "being too samey" when i'm a fan of a series that people throw the same criticisms at.
