Call of Duty: WWII - Beta Impressions

Played a few matches. It's definitely... CoD. 100% more boots on ground which is a nice change of pace, but still CoD.

Take that how you will.

This sounds good to me. I think the boots "off" the ground of the past 3 games has really decreased my enjoyment of the series overall. Hopefully may CoD passion comes back!

People definitely shouldn't sleep on War mode. Just really enjoyed a couple of rounds of that. Feels like a nice middle ground between the core COD gameplay and something with a little more scale and objective to it.

Man I don't know how to feel the more I play.

In comparison to BO3's and IW's beta I'm just not having all that much fun.

Matches feel like you're constantly being shot in the back by users with SMG's, getting camped by SMG users, and getting jump shotted by SMG users.

SMG's are just too goddamn powerful at the moment.

Ironically, XclusiveAce was saying how SMGs felt weak in that sprint out time needed to be reduced in its current form.

WAR mode actually has me interested in COD multiplayer, and that hasn't happened since MW1 and 2.

Hungry for details on that one.

IW was trash, but the controls for that game were tight and super responsive. How are the controls here? Any noticeable input lag/delay in aiming?

First match impressions were pretty good. Felt smooth, decent TTK and good hit registration. Love the audio too, they've done well there. Visually it's still CoD but looks nice still.

Will try more over the weekend. Especially interested in the War gamemode.

Weird. Feels like they easily dominate over every class right now.

85~90% of people in matches I've played are using SMGs.

Yeah unless they fix SMG's this beta is fucked.

When the Grease Gun can beat a Garand at long range and has less recoil than the Garand you know the balance is just not there.

There is no point to using any other gun other than the SMG class and that sucks because it's boring.

Played 4 matches but damn... this still feels way too fast for me. It may look like WW2 but somehow it doesn't feel right. Gonna try again to see if I can adjust.

Feels like host advantage bullshit. Where you look at their kill cam and they got the drop on you even though you felt like you shot first.

My first impressions, as someone who still plays a good bit of COD, is holy smokes is the sound design better in this game. I'm playing with headphones on and everything sounds impactful, from the explosions to the gunfire. There's also a fair of bit of chatter from other characters that alert you to where the enemy team is. At times it can be a little OP, kind of like having an auditory UAV up.

The time to kill is definitely longer than it has been in past games, I feel like gun fights have a little bit more play to them now. I like what they have done with divisions, and how you gain passive perks in each division as you rank up.

As far as gun balance, it's going to be hard to find a way to balance the fully-auto smg's with the semi-auto assault rifles. The M1grand hit's hard, but given the high TTK in this game, if you are in a 2-v-1 situation it's going to be tough to win that gunfight.

Overall I like the feel of the game, the hit detection seems on point, the sound is much improved and the guns all feel like they have a purpose. If you get a chance to play I highly recommend you try the incendiary rounds you get in the expeditionary class. This is still very much COD, but it feels like a good one. Now I'm off to mess around with War mode.

I think they nailed the feel of fighting in a war. I mean the battle chatter is very good and soldiers screaming in agony squirming without legs before dying... holy shit.

Didn't realize how much I missed gore in CoD multiplayer.

You totally nailed all my feelings.

DAMN, the sound design is crazy. Maybe I am making it up in my head, but this just seems completely different from any other CoD I can remember. The "atmosphere" sound alone just nails what I would imagine WWII actually sounding like, out there on the battlefield alone.

Gun balance will be interesting. Balance was always an issue in WaW. Early on the SMG's were powerful, but then they nerfed them and they felt underpowered. I am happy they are having the Beta 2 months before release and 2 weekends because it should give them plenty of time to tweak things in the short term and for release.

TTK feels pretty good right now. I like the slower gameplay without instantly falling down when 1 bullet hits you. And divisions seem like a breath of fresh air.

Overall I feel like this is the biggest leap from 1 game to another CoD has seen in quite some time. This definitely doesn't feel like just a re-skined version of a past game.

Does anyone know if there is a penalty/bonus in effect if you are not using/using the weapon type associated with your Division? I see the ! icon there for example if I main an SMG with Mountain Division but not sure if I am getting less Division XP or what.

Haven't tested myself yet because I am shit with the sniper rifles and using SMG to level Mountain Division =P

Games decent, don't know if Cod is for me anymore though. Sniping was quite satisfying. Controls felt a little too weighty for my tastes. Need more matches to get back in the groove I think.

M1 Garand is kind of weak in AW, so this doesn't surprise me tbh. :/

If it's anything like that M1, aim and pray you can get at least one headshot and get a two shot kill. Upper torso might also work.

I wouldn't be surprised if they fit that crap in there somehow. And I would not be interested in a game like that. You crazy.

Sarcasm flew right over you like a jet pack 😂

Anyone having luck getting past the error screen to redeem their preorder code?

No.
Knocked it on the head and decided to just get it from the Singapore store. It's in my account but I've Not downloaded it yet but If all is good I'll give this code away on GAF or something if a friend doesn't want it.

Played a few rounds of TDM and I don't think much of it. Mostly because I had a really hard time spotting the difference between team mates and the enemy. It's seems so unclear that by the time I realize the guy in front is an enemy I'm already dead. Played 5 rounds, got maybe 1 or 2 kills in each match. I'll play a few more rounds but so far I'm not impressed.

Anyone else notice the dolphin dive has returned?! <3

I also love the ability to put on/take off the suppressor in game.

You won't get the special weapon-related attachment by mixing and matching Divisions and weapon categories, but you'll still get all the Division perks.

They're never going to fix this. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert about tick rate or lag compensation but it feels so much worse in CoD than any other shooter and makes run and gun style play so miserable.

Is the only way to play right now through the HK store route, or are people getting their codes from the CoD site and able to download the full beta that way?

I can't even get the CoD beta redemption site to load right now; I knew I should've done that shit beforehand

I was all in for this a couple of months ago. After watching a few vids I think I will skip it. I mean it looks fine and quite fun, but at the same time I've done it all a million times over. I think I will wait for PUBG and go all in with that.
