How is it 2014 and they still haven't invented a way to punch someone over the internet

You can see the disappointment and sadness in his eyes...

someone needs to post some embarrassing Heathcliff or Marmaduke fan fiction

Even better if it's a cross over where the author of said fan fiction is in the story AND bonus points if it contains slash guro content. Oh, damn...

*thinks*

Marmaduke looked out from the kitchen window with a forlorn look of extreme sadness on his mighty, brown brow. His owners were away on a vacation without him and they had left him with Insert Name Here- and this caused Marmaduke to be sad about his situation. Insert Name Here walked into the kitchen after playing his/her account on Gaia Online for a while. "Are you okay, Marmabuddy?" Marmabuddy was Insert Name Here's pet name for Marmaduke. Insert Name Here was not usually attracted to dogs, but Marmabuddy just had those delicious brown, fur colored haunches. "Do you need food? I read on NeoGaf that dogs need to be fed from a post on Calvin and Hobbes Fan Fiction that I just readed." Insert Name Here looked at Marmabuddy. Marmabuddy looked at Insert Name Here and then back out the window as a large orange alley cat walked across the front lawn with members of his alley cat crew. Suddenly, Insert Name Here became an ALLEY CAT too! This was surprising and Marmabuddy looked at Alley Cat Insert Name Here with a type of different hunger in his gorgeous eyes. "OH NO. I GOTTA GO FAST." Exclaimed Alley Cat Insert Name Here in a loud yell.

I could go on.. but.. no.. no.. just.. no....

I may be an awful person with no moral code when it comes to the creation of bad fan fiction. Bwa ha ha.

you can't put a price on sparks
I read that as "Heathcliff on Marmaduke fan fiction."

I think I need to go to sleep...

i like where this is going

As opposed to that respectable, life-affirming Heathcliff fan-fiction.

yeah, like the TV show and the movies

lul.

i actually wrote a parody of Scooby-Doo, where i replaced Scooby with Marmaduke and called it Marmaduke, Where Are You? And it revolved around Marmaduke having sex with all the hot chicks and having a huge dong

He actually did just release new material recently, taking over Pearls Before Swine for a few days.

You can definitely feel the Calvin and Hobbes influence in there.

Man, you can just feel the C&H in that
I want MOOOORRREE

This is what I came for, OP a little better in my books now

Just to tap in to why I think some people are reacting negatively to this: I guess I view C&H as sort of sly and subversive, and I view this fanfic as, like, cloying and overly sentimental, so there's a bit of tonal mismatch there. When warm feelings come up in C&H, they seem earned.

I mean knowing that it was someone's 5 minute response to a writing prompt I'm not going to kick the author, or whatever, but it sort feels like it misses the core of C&H to me.

What exactly is Calvin & Hobbes? Thanks to the internet I know the gist of it. Kid has an imaginary tiger friend, but where do it comes from? People are nostalgic of it, so it's not something new.

Was it a comic or something? I never saw it in my life before after a couple of years ago?

Yuck. Authors with less than 50 short stories should be banned from writing fan-fiction. How can they always write with every amateur cliche known to a man and call it extra-ordinary.

Easily one of, if not the single greatest newspaper comic strip. It ran from 85-95. I highly recommend checking out an anthology at your library, at the very least.

Hobbes... I need to tell you something... I only fucked Susie Derkins in my whole life and it pisses me off and I'm on the verge of dying talking to my imaginary friend

If only there were some vast interconnected amalgam of accessible information that allowed one to seek out topical knowledge.

To expand on my snarky and dismissive post from last night: I don't want any fan art or fan story to expand on my Calvin and Hobbes experience. The strip was perfect as it was from beginning to end. I don't want to know what happened to Calvin when he grew up, whether he married Susie, when his parents died, if Hobbes was real or all in his mind, or Calvin gave the tiger to his kids, or what. Those aren't questions I want or need answered, and I respect that Bill Waterson isn't interested in telling us either.

It's not just that it's what snopes.com would categorize as glurge.

It's that it's wildly unimaginative. Hey, you know Calvin's neighbor Susie? And how they hated each other? They got married! Haha, of course they did. And Hobbes, how it was deliberately never totally clear if he was real or imaginary? Yeah, he disappears as soon as Calvin gets too old. Fake! Oh, but don't worry, Calvin will pass the torch to his grandkid so we can get dat moment of sentimentality.

Bleck.

Here's my Calvin and Hobbes fanfic reccs:

The Best Seven Years is a crossover between Calvin and Hobbes and Harry Potter, written by Blu Taiger. Several years after the comic strip, Calvin and his family has moved to England, when one night Susie arrives to visit Calvin while she is visiting her grandmother. Calvin then reveals what has happened since (the initially skeptical) Susie last: Calvin is a wizard.

A prequel story was written called In Love and War. Taking place while Calvin and Susie were still classmates in the fourth grade, Calvin and Susie use Calvin's cardboard box time machine to travel back in time to research an oral history report. However, something goes wrong during their journey and they wind up during the war between the Maximals and Predicons, and must find a way home.

The Calvinverse is an unofficial name for The Verse of Swing 123 and garfieldodie's Calvin and Hobbes Fan Fics.note

All of them share some common traits: a tendency to rely on Aliens and Monsters, a lot of Genre Savviness, Lampshade Hanging, and general troperifficness. Oh, and a hefty dose of Adaptation Expansion and Script Fic.

The other main gimmick of the series is that they all pretend to be either an animated movie or a series on a children's network, and thus most Medium Awareness moments refer to those areas (though, confusingly, there are some references to fanfiction elements, such as chapters).

Calvin & Hobbes: The Series is the main focus of the canon, running for five seasons (with increasingly sparse updates). However, after garfieldodie took over uploading duty from Swing, he announced that Season 5 is the last season of The Series, but the verse will continue in a series of one-offs that will eventually bring everything to a close.

After The Series, garfieldodie proceeded to upload a rewritten version of Can You Imagine That?, including a coherent timeline for the series, as well as the long-awaited rewritten version of Calvin and Hobbes II: Lost at Sea.

Camp Nightmare is a Calvin and Hobbes fan fic by OnTheEdge7830.

Calvin and Hobbes are sent to a day camp, where everything is sickeningly sweet. Despite this, things go alright for them, right? Right?

"Oh, yeah!" Calvin said. He pulled out his Ipod and put an earphone in himself and Hobbes's ear. He turned it on. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback started playing.

I need to lie down because this person is channeling Bill Watterson's still-living spirit so hard that it is breaking my mind

The best strips and art are when Calvin and Susie are married!

please no

Sorry, but nope.

If it's not Watterson it's not Calvin and Hobbes. Even those drawings of an adult Calvin giving away Hobbes to his kid rub me the wrong way.

Not to say they're not coming from a good place, it just doesn't work for me.

And sorry again, but this one is especially schmaltzy and cringy in my opinion.

That is the worst C&H fan fic shit I have ever seen. And there has been awful examples.

What a pile of crap.

This also sums up my stance on the subject, tho https://twitter.com/nathanfairbairn/status/487253399256043520

OP should feel bad for posting this crap.

A crap ending nobody asked for. You shouldn't have.

You wanna jerk tears and your dick at the same time, father a porn star. Don't wipe your ass with greatness and show me the toilet paper like you did something special.

As others said, it's a newspaper daily strip. Very funny, very imaginative, very beautiful art (Especially after Bill Watterson was able to construct Sunday strips to his liking). Check out the collections.

NO

I had to stop reading after the second paragraph. That's horribly written.

It reads like it was written by a 5th grader.

But this thread did remind me to finally start reading the complete Calvin and Hobbes book set that I picked up two Black Fridays ago.
