Capcom announces Dead Rising: Chop Til' You Drop for US (Press Release inside)

Rough translation of the final verdict of the Pelaaja review:

Like in the original version, the plot, dialog and voice acting of Chop Till You Drop are tragicomic just like you'd expect from a game admiring B horror movies. Unfortunately the unintented humor doesn't save Dead Rising's self-repeating, awkward and downright boring Wii port. How on earth did anyone at Capcom think this was a good idea?

3/10

Three people that just got done playing the game are crying blood and begging to be killed.

I pray this game dosent turn out the same. "We gave them Dead Rising and they didn't buy it, Guess that means there is no audience for it on Wii!".
Hopefully they realize that they should create original content designed FOR the Wii rather than stripping down games the system has no business running. The Wii simply isn't capable of delivering a proper Dead Rising experience and they should have realized this.

:lol Are you serious now?
Yes I am serious. Has anyone ever announced a sequel for a game before the original is released and had the sequel only available on other platforms? Raises a big red flag as far as I am concerned.

You know, you seem to have a grasp on this but I still see you hand-wringing too often! Tsk tsk!
Just because I have a grasp on it doesn't mean I agree with it.

Don't get the hate. Capcom is trying as hard as they can.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but this port isn't being "entirely rebuilt from the ground up." It's more akin to an RE4 total conversion.

Agian, thats not fair to Wii owners. DC looks pretty lame to me, like walmart bargian bin lame.

I hate this publisher guilt trip crap. "Better buy this game because if you don't we aren't ever going to try on Wii again." It almost sounds like you want to buy Deadly Creatures not so much because you really want it, but just to support those types of games on Wii.

I pray this game dosent turn out the same. "We gave them Dead Rising and they didn't buy it, Guess that means there is no audience for it on Wii!".

If the game gets (which I'm sure it will) bad reviews and a bad meta critic score then it will deserve to sell poorly, should it do just that. Capcom cannot blame poor sales on "no existing audience" when it is in fact just a poor game. In fact, should it review and sell poorly then you could argue that the audience IS there b/c they know to stay away from bad games.

I just don't know what the hell Capcom was thinking on this one. DR on Wii could have been great. But no, they gave it a shitty budget, with shitty resources, and a shity development cycle and we ended up getting this abomination.

In general, downporting is just masochistic, for developers, publishers, and the general audience.

If you're gonna make a game for the Wii, make a fucking game FOR THE WII.

So what happens if it reviews poorly and sells the 500K they expect? Or... 1 million? What does that say?

Oh, you bet they can.

Why wouldn't they? It's typical now to blame poor business decisions on some other factor - no audience, recession, giant hippo, etc. - so long as it keeps your executives from looking like stupid morons.

So yeah, business as usual.

Dead Rising 2 port.

With less zombies because the bigger environments need more polygons :D

Wow, what the fudge was Osaka thinking when greenlighting this one?

I still think that they chose the wrong HD game to go Wii. Should have gone for Lost Planet or Devil May Cry 4.

Deadly Creatures gives off a far more favorable impression and reviews have been good, it's not a lame game, and the graphics are nice too.
I'm just telling you from my perspective I will not be buying it. The name, the concept, and just how the game comes off as a whole to me says pass. The only reason I even know about it is because its one of those "dark games" Matt Cassamasia wont shut up about.

The box art even looks like shovelware to me, like it would fit perfectly in the Walmart bin with Monster 4x4 and freinds. The THQ logo on the box sure dosent help, THQ isn't exactly a name assocciated with top quality worth-full-price games, at least I don't think so.

Before you jump on me, I'm not saying it is shovelware, but rather thats how the game comes off to me. That to me is a big failure in marketing and one of the reasons I don't think it will sell well. I'm sure I'm not the only one who dosen't have it on their radar for that reason as well.

So to me its extreeeeeemly unfair for the developer to sit with their arms crossed saying "Buy it or else all your going to get is Minigames". I think thier game would have a poor chance of selling regardless of what platform it was on.

That's not so much what they're doing as that's what we think they're going to end up doing.

Oh, it would. They based the game around two of the most hated and feared creatures on this planet. That's not exactly the recipe for huge sales, though it looks badass.

I can understand what you are saying, and no-one should be buying games they don't want to prove some kind of point, but at the same time no-one should be dismissing games because they are poorly advertised. If you look at the media and reviews and think you don't want it then fine, but hell even the most random buyer looks at the back of the box before making their purchase.

They actually did say that
So the response to [the game] so far has been really good. I hope people vote with their dollars in February so we can make some more. Otherwise, it’s back to mini-games.

But thats exactly how things get dismissed. If the game turns out amazing and GAF raves about it then I'll check it out, but thats becuase I read GAF and do alot of research. The general consumer base dosent do much research at all so the only way to get them interested is with proper marketing.

One of my favorite Wii games, Trauma Center NB, had horrible advertising and combined with some unfair reviews didn't sell at all. It certianly deserved to sell as the game is awesome but like I said, making a good game is only part of what it takes to sell.

I think the best outcome for future Wii games from Capcom is that this game does sell pretty well and bests Capcom's 500K worldwide expectations. Some people think that would mean that Capcom would put equally, apparently, poorly developed games on the system. What is more likely is that good sales would encourage them to put even more effort in next time to get more sales out of the userbase.

As for THQ, it's nice that they wanted to put a traditional game on the console, but I've never felt particularly enthused at the idea of being a spider or a scorpion and scurrying my way through underground paths. If Deadly Creatures does well, great. If it tanks, I can't say that I'll be devastated.

Link said:
Minigames it is then, it looks like, because I haven't seen one iota of marketing for this game, and I doubt THQ is planning any.

Seems so. FFS, I'm trying to imagine exactly how much money Nintendo will have by the time next-gen comes around. With moronic business decisions made by virtually every other dev/pub, leaving them free and clear to soak up all the profit and industry growth ... Wow.

That's what I thought after Umbrella Chronicles, developed by Cavia with reused assets, turned out to be so successful.

Are you saying straight ports of REmake and Zero aren't more effort?!

I hope i end up being pleasantly surprised, because i honestly wanted to get this game when i first heard of it, but as of right now it seems like a seriously half baked effort. Looks real bad, or whats worse, looks bland a hell in every aspect.

I am willing to eat my words and purchase it if im wrong though.

i think the game can be interesting

i mean its pretty much re 4 with the dead rising theme..
= shooting will be much better then the original dead rising..
= melee weapons could be better dunno the waggling does not look encouraging but some companies have achieved good melee combat on wii
= the amount of zombies have increased as the development went on.. if you consider that there are a maximum of maybe 7 to 8 zombies on one screen in RE4 its pretty impressive what they have done
= the structure of the game has changed into a more streamlined experience.. i hated dead rising on the 360 because of its mission structure.. so that is a good thing for me

all in all its not a straight port and i dont like the graphics but maybe the game will play better then on the low res pics that we saw

Lets take Resident Evil 4, strip it of everything that made it great, slap on a Dead Rising skin and then make sure we put in as little effort as possible.... Success!
