Capcom announces LOST PLANET 2 (360) - shock&awe imminent

I love Lost Planet. Honestly, the campaign lost my interest a couple hours in so I'm happy they're mixing it up a lot. I know online will bring it so I'm super excited, day 1 purchase for sure.

Sidenote:

Hopefully Capcom fixes the

[i shoot you]
[they have this weird falling animation, can't get hurt]
[lying on the ground for 2 seconds, can't get hurt]
[start getting up again, can't get hurt]
[stand up fully, can't get hurt for 2 more seconds]
[battle continues]

Hate that bullshit. My shotgun to your face should kill you, not make you do this weird animation that gives the wounded the advantage.

Ehh, I thought the best/most interesting part of the game, in MP especially, was the invulnerability frames and that the animations were actually one of the most important elements of gameplay. If they change that I probably won't bother with the game except for co-op.

Agreed. The whole point of the invuln was that it resets the conflict... if you knock them down, without killing them in one shot, especially with a one shot kill weapon, you did something wrong, and the other person SHOULD have a chance to score the kill against you.

That's what makes Lost Planet decidedly different than every other shooter.

That element also allowed for some interesting tactics, like trying to get a grenade to detonate just as a player gets back up.

My blood is still burning for this one. As soon as my roommate gets off COD:MW, I'm popping in Lost Planet for some bug stomping mayhem.

Exactly what I meant with the game being widely misunderstood. The basics of a fighting game in a third-person shooter. It was different and complaints about it wanted it to be more like other games. You would be crucified if you went into the SFIV thread and demanded that it should be more like Tekken.

Yeah, that was pretty annoying. It like you got an advantage for getting shot. Still multiplayer was really fun. I think I got up to the high 70's...

If you're a good player, a grounded enemy is a dead enemy (assuming a one on one fight). You either tag them with a gum or disc grenade or throw a grenade at their feet just as they get up. Rolling invincibility is far more important.

Basically.

I've been thinking about ways they could the grapple hook and I reckon I got a good idea. So we all know that the grapple hook is pretty strong and it drags the player towards the desired target, however, what if you could make it so you could drag shit towards you?

Imagine it, 4 doods grapple hooking a mech and then using it to pull it over. Would be awesome.

Tell me about it. LP2 better come to the PS3 or they'll be hell to pay!
HELL I tells ya!
What are you going to do if it don't come to the PS3? I would like WarDevil stay multiplatform so 360 owner could also buy the game.

I'm all for the invul parts while rolling or when it makes sense. Shotgun from a what the game considers just a tad too far should just not kill them instead of making the person invul to any grenades that any teammate might throw, or letting them kill me with their shotgun once they stand up from their animation.

That one has to go imo. There were some fun times with it, but I would rather it's not there. Just my opinion.

Is Lost Planet 2 Only On Xbox 360?

from kotaku

" Earlier this week, Lost Planet 2 was announced on Xbox LIVE. The upcoming issue of Japanese game magazine lists the game as only "Xbox 360." Guess that means it's on the Xbox 360.

But how does that fit into Capcom's multi-platform strategy?

Famitsu reports that the game's development is 40 percent done, has online player and four player co-op. As we posted previously, it features new environments, new enemies and new weapons. Check out the debut trailer here and new Famitsu scans below.
"

I think I read earlier this week that Capcom would be releasing some PR tomorrow, but it would seem to be the case with that after all this. Although as mentioned I would remove it as scans are a no no.

Hehe, I've been replaying LP campaign since the announcement. Need to go through Hard again since I haven't unlocked Extreme yet for Colonies.

My last save was at the start of mission 4. The climb up the mountain, up to the epic encounter with the flying moth boss. I remember my first encounter with that one probably take up to an hour worth of retries. Mission 5, another trek up a mountain, into the ice cave and fighting the giant Akrid! Not as hard as mission 4's boss, but still so goood. Breaking off its claws to knock it senseless and then shoot its weak spot. Mission 6 starting off in the city as you fight off a good number of pirates and mechs all at once - it was actually tougher than I remember. And then, fighting Green Eye with my favorite mech in the game. So agile! I actually really like how controlling mechs feels in this game. Mission 7 as you sneak into the enemy base at night. Only, it's not much of a stealth mission as they launch a dozen mechs shooting missiles at you from every direction! As you get past that, you get a small breather. Until a bunch of giant Akrid start chasing you around. Enemy mechs get in the fray as well, leading to a 3-way battle leaving only me and my mech standing (well, only me - I did salvage the mech for T-eng, though!). And yet the mission's not over. You have to get past a bunch of security robots, and dodge their lasers, while some mechs at a distance fire missiles at you. Luckily, hand grenades are a-plenty! Then, mech boss time! Being a bit reckless, I lose my mech to the boss, and fight the rest of the fight on foot. Dodging its bullets and his little security robot escorts, I sneak in a few rockets and ba-boom! Mission 8, start! Now it's 1AM and I have work early tomorrow :( Next time, next time!

Such a wonderful game, so much nostalgia. Easily one of my favorite singleplayer games this gen.

well I don't blame Capcom here at all , since Lost Planet 1 did like crap on PS3 , and if Microsoft give Capcom some money in the exclusive Deal ( or maybe for markiting ) then it's better than selling just less than 10K on PS3 .

I really hope this isn't only on 360.

I have a lot more real life friend on PS3 then 360, I saw the trailer and OMFUCKingG! 4-PLAYER CO-OP! SHIT! PLEASE DON'T FUCK ME OVER CAPCOM/MICROSOFT!

I fucking love console exclusivity because chances are Capcom won't be tied down with having to worry about a PS3 port and can milk the 360 for all her power.
This is why you're suppose to own more than one console. And if you can't,then you'd better find a friend that does.:lol

Yeah but it was a half ass port and they were asking full price at the time when on the 360 you can get it for $20. And that's what I did, I bought the PS3 version on Gamefly, and I waited till it dropped to $20 or lower ($15 for me).

Its the same like situation as Bioshock and 2K Games (as far as I know) is still making a PS3 version of Bioshock 2. And I'm pretty sure Bioshock on the PS3 didn't make the charts although I could be wrong.

It would be just soo fucked up if they didn't make this game for PS3 too. Like really Capcom? You make everything multiplatform like Devil's May Cry and you stop now? Even when you said your multiplat from now on? In these hard times? For shame, I hope Microsoft shoved that money hat straight up your ass....if Lost Planet 2 is exclusive....please don't make it exclusive...i..love...u...

Yeah, makes totally sense with a multiplat engine.

What really makes sense is that PS3 owners are getting the sequel to a game they never got, and are seemingly not getting the sequel to a game they did.

Didn't it come out much later on the PS3? It seems like later ports typically don't perform as well as when the games do when they are first released. Bring out your games a year later and it probably won't perform as well as it could of.

Speaking as a 360 owner, come on Cappy and make this multi. Let everyone in on the fun on day one, instead of some lousy port months down the line.

Not to mention the port was complete crap.

im happy this is getting some people excited & the buzz is generally really good here, Lost Planet is very underrated title

Capcom Announces Lost Planet 2
4-player co-op, new interlinked episodes, and deep customization take Lost Planet® to a new level
London — February 25, 2009 „o Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that Lost Planet® 2 is being developed for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, following an exclusive announcement on Xbox LIVE that happened Monday, February 23. Lost Planet®: Extreme Condition, the landmark third-person shooter that debuted on Xbox 360, went on to sell over 2.2 million units worldwide after its release. This next riveting instalment will offer deeper insight into the world of E.D.N III and the uncertain fate of future mankind.

Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years since the events of the original adventure and the landscape has evolved dramatically. With the success of terraforming activities, the planet’s ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and other new environments. The story has advanced beyond Wayne Holden as players will now follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirates on their quest to seize control of E.D.N III. Players will move their heroes through different stories creating a truly unique and interactive experience. With this concept, gamers will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from various perspectives.

The strongest features from the first game will return in Lost Planet 2 making fans feel right at home. In addition to the anchor actions that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3-D experience, Lost Planet 2 allows gamers to gain tactical advantage with a wide variety of new actions. The game will also contain a new addition to the enormous Akrids which were a fan-favourite in the first Lost Planet.

Capcom has spent a considerable amount of time reviewing community feedback and incorporating it into Lost Planet 2 creating a game that both new and returning fans to the series will love. The game takes advantage of Capcom’s most highly advanced software development tool, the MT Framework 2. This is the first game to make use of the new technology that builds on the advancements made in the original MT Framework.

Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with one the most extensive multiplayer campaign seen in a shooter to date. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends.

haha doesnt sound to me like it is exclusive...

notice in the press release how it says exclusive announcement haha... Personally I think its one of those cases were they announce it sooner so MS can put emphasis on their version or something.

This exclusive whining is really annoying when the game isn't even due out anytime soon.

But those screens look fantastic

Yup, that's what it looks like to me as well. Pitiful effort from Microsoft, I don't know who they're trying to fool. They should start investing in real exclusives, rather than buying so much marketing for exclusive DLC and fake exclusivity, it's really starting to get on my nerves.

An exclusive game from Capcom in this day and age is quite something though. Not to mention they'll port it before you can say Indestructable

If it's a 360 exclusive, it's quite impressive how fast things change.

"All major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as
multi-platform games," reads Capcom's shareholder report for its fiscal year 2008,
which ended on March 31 of this year."

At no point in the PR do they say exclusive, only that it's being made on 360.

PC, Xbox 360 could be considered multiplatform. But it's Capcom guys, have they ever released an exclusive game? They've just ported Dead Rising for the Wii.

Diablohead said:

Says nothing about timed exclusives (which are not really exclusives, per se) as well. Though personally, I do think that the PS3 version still has a pretty good chance of a simultaneous release. Let's just wait for confirmation from Capcom.

It is true that the press release was worded quite strangely. It is almost as if they wanted to create the ambiguity.

what's with the reactions?
it's obvious this is some kind of timed exclusive, they can't mention other platforms as it's part of the deal. the press release doesn't mention exclusivity anywhere.

Heh, that PR sounds like as much confirmation as you can get it's timed. Not to mention the announcement trailer only on the 360 and the preview only listed as 360 in Famitsu this week. There is zero reason not to mention other versions now without some kind of deal on the table. Not to say it isn't going to hit other platforms later.

BUT BUT BUT CAPCOM MULTI :lol

They can still keep to this just a different kind of multi eh.

Screens look gorgeous, and it's still so early too... and they confirmed what I figured, that your Space Pirates can be custom-fitted costume-wise to your liking, as well as it's the first game to use MT-Framework 2.0 - I really wanna see the improvements to the engine although I can see some already...

And it's so funny reading these "will it be exclusive? it's exclusive?" whining so early too - if anything, it's a hell of a way to generate buzz, because for the last couple days, it's all that's been going on, more than talk about the trailer itself...

Annoying that they keep asking about ports, but if that was Microsoft's goal, they sure as hell succeeded with that one...
