Hell, RE4 has been so successful they ported it twice, why not port it again to the PS3 and 360 before RE5 comes out? Make it RE4HD and add something like the whole Wesker Files that was in RE:CVX for the PS2.

Great, then we'll end up in another argument about which is the 'definitive' edition, graphics vs. controls.

Believe.

I don't even know what you are trying to say.
I think he means "RE4 Wii + UC = DMC4" (both at 2.3 million)

I guess he's trying to get at the fact that the two Wii SKUs sold the same as the DMC4 PS3 and 360 SKUs, while the Wii games cost Capcom only a fraction of DMC4's dev budget.

or something.

Why is DMC 4 is combined in the chart? Every other game like RE4 is stated for each system alone although RE4 was also a multiplatform title.

I think it's a good idea honestly, especially if they repeat the budget pricepoint.

I think they should've ported RE4 to Xbox too honestly back in 2005, it'd have definitely at least made money back.

Yep... even games that were released somewhat close to each other or simultaneously (SSF2) have separated SKUs. Makes no sense imo.

edit: plus it'd be nice to get platform breakdowns for DMC4.

They should do a Resident Evil 2 Remake for the Wii. It seems like it'd be a waste not to do something nice with numbers like that.

Because Capcom considers them separate to each other, unlike DMC4 which is just one entity.

It's no different from SSF2 really, and they're just counting the SNES sku there.

I think it's great that basically all Capcom's worldwide releases have exceeded expectations. The only that might not have is probably Lost Planet PS3.

Sorry, meant to say that Capcom Wii titles = Capcom HD titles. It was too early in the morning for me.
I think it only works if you'd separate DMC4 down by platform, it'd probably be more like...

Capcom 360 = Capcom Wii > Capcom PS3

...though that obviously doesn't take into account things like budgets or number of titles.

Was the sales expectations posted?
http://ir.capcom.co.jp/english/data/pdf/fy2008a.pdf

360/PS3 Resident Evil 5 - Worldwide - FY2008 - 2,300,000
360/PS3/PC Bionic Commando - Worldwide - FY2008 - 1,500,000
PSP Monster Hunter Portable 2 G - Japan - Already Released - 1,500,000
360/PC Lost Planet Colonies - Worldwide - May/June - 610,000

Basically confirms RE5 will be released before April 2009 everywhere.

7. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, Xbox 360) - 2,300,000 (Development cost = 20million$)
44. Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles - 1,050,000 (Development cost = 1million$?)
32. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition - 1,250,000 (Development cost = 100k$?)

Do the maths Capcom, go for wii all the way, spend your moneis on it.

Only if you ignore Lost Planet (1.5 mil), Dead Rising (1.4 mil), and SF2 on XBLA.

Or if you only count this fiscal year actually.

If you count SF2' XBLA though, you'd need to add Capcom's various VC releases as well as their other PSN/XBLA stuff.

He didn't say anything about fiscal year, and I only brought up SF2 because it's the only Capcom virtual game that we know sold well, though I'm much to lazy to dig up the data.

Mega Man Series - 120 titles - 28,000,000
28 million... And yet those bastards got us hard with Powered-Up and Maverick Hunter X, and then left us with blue balls.

Come on, Capcom. We know you've got a hard-on for the whole digi-distro movement (XBLA and PSN). Bring us at least the second in both series... Pretty please?

Yes, good point. I guess I was looking at what was proclaimed as the biggest Capcom HD title (DMC4) and comparing it to the only things that Wii has from them.

Capcom <3!

GIVE ME MORE ONIMUSHA!

Sure, I don't disagree and I made basically the same point earlier. Just saying, Wii's done exceptionally well for Capcom this year, just as well as 360 did for them last year actually.

I like how everyone forgets that RE4 Wii = $30 & RE UC = $50 while DMC4 = $60. Also, RE UC had a trailer on the RE4 disc which was part of the "no marketing." It's good to see all of them selling well.

If you divide the total sold by a franchise by the total # of titles, it's interesting to see that Devil May Cry sells the most per title:

Title Avg Sold per title
Devil May Cry 950,000
Resident Evil 690,000
Onimusha 650,000
Monster Hunter 630,000
Commando 600,000
Street Fighter 423,729
Disney 400,000
Dino Crisis 338,462
Final Fight 320,000
Ghosts 'n Goblins 286,667
Ace Attorney 254,545
Mega Man 233,333
Breath of Fire 200,000

Sad to see the horrible DMC4 and RE:UC selling so well, well on a great note at least Okami bombed again.

DMC4 is the most advertised game of this year, behind GTA4. At least in the US.

Lost Planet 1,500,000
Dead Rising 1,400,000

They are the only two non-franchise, non-Disney titles in the top 46. Though they will be franchises soon enough, I'm sure :)

Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Army of Two
Guitar Hero 3

I've seen more commercials for DMC4 than those games. Seeing more Haze commercials than other games too.

That might just be what you're watching. I didn't see a whole lot for DMC4, but I've seen a ton of stuff for the other games, particularly Wii Fit. Advertising is more than just commercials.

Actually, Lost Planet has 3 SKUs already, it'll be 5 soon. :P

And I'm pretty sure there's been one mobile LP game too already...

Me too actually, though it's died down now.

Bizarrely, I saw a ton of commercials for Advance Wars DOR of all things. :/

When is this series going to be resurrected? the first two on the playstation where awesome. Excluding mobile phone versions, wouldn't this have a higher sales/per title. than even RE?

That makes too much sense. They would rather give us ports of games that sold like shit the first time through.

True, though the 1,500,000 is only for the 360 version, and I'm not calling it a franchise yet until there is a real sequel :)

Well duh, how do you make a franchise if you only have one game entry?

And that's not a good thing. Look how at how they milked the hell out of Viewtiful Joe and ruined it.

Ace Attorney Series - 11 titles - 2,800,000

Japanese Sales (From Wikipedia:)

ds2 160,000
gba3 170,000

I dunno, I think the concept got horribly wasted last gen. I guess we get Capcom dinosaurs essentially now with Monster Hunter, but I still think there'd be a lot of potential for Dino Crisis 4.

Seems more viable than Onimusha anyway imo.

Sure, but it makes it rather useless when comparing to per franchise averages.

LP PC had shipped around 400k iirc, I'd bet the PS3 release did maybe half that. Factor in the mobile game, and LP drops pretty dramatically.

GAH!

I can trace back all the Ace Attorney games at least:

3 on GBA (GS1, GS2, GS3)
4 on DS (GS1, GS2, GS3, GS4)
4 on PC (GS1, GS2, GS3, GS1+2+3)
But... aren't there also mobile ports of GS1-3?
