Capcom targeting 4m day 1 sales for Resident Evil 7

I thought I read in their recent financials that they wanted 4 million lifetime or within the fiscal year? Which isn't a stretch

Day 1?

Best of luck to them either way. I don't want Capcom to shelter any more of their franchises.

Day one means the first shipment.

True I forgot they meant shipments. If FFXV can do 5 million I see no reason why RE7 can't do 4 million. I would say FF was tarnished more than RE plus Xbox owners will actually buy this Japanese game.

I wonder if projected PC sales will be counted in the day one as well.

Not with the direction the series took. It looks like Outlast sequel rather than RE.

No it doesn't. People saying obviously haven't played Outlast and haven't been paying close attention to RE7.

Woof. I mean I'm super exited about this game but four million on day one seems steep. Especially with how the gameplay change seems to be so divisive. Good luck, RE7.

That seems completely unrealistic - it doesn't have much of a buzz at all considering it's coming out in a month. If they're going to kick into high gear on their marketing then that needs to happen now.

I think they'll be fortunate to get half of that on week 1. 4 million copies day 1 seems like crazy COD-levels of success though.

Here is a thought.....

What if they make a bundle and ship it together with the PSVR?

That would still count for Resi 7 sales too and I can imagine at a price cut it would entice alot of people in.

RE6 day one shipment was 4.5m.

They are targeting 500k less this time.

They still didn't sell through 4 million copies to consumers on day one, they just shipped 4.5 million to retailers and they've done a pretty bad job making new RE titles since then so I wouldn't be surprised if consumers are a little more bullish on the franchise then they were coming off RE5.

edit: apparently they're talking about shipped so my argument is irrelevant

Well I've done my part and preordered the PC version. Last game I preordered was Dark Souls 3. Have a good feeling about this one too.

This 4 million number is just shipments as well.

Big marketing push from January 2nd

Offer sales on previous RE titles on digital storefronts

Give the first tease of Remake 2 the week RE7 hits, or put in on the game

Reveal a sliver of the legacy characters who are in RE7 (which I'm pretty sure they are)

Yeah I reckon 4million is doable. I'm definitely in.

Sounds like a pretty bold prediction. Capcom really swinging for the fences with RE7.

At most I'd predict 800K day one and 8m lifetime.

edit: Ah it's shipped numbers.

It's for shipments. But for actual sold through, not even 5 & 6 managed 4 million day one or even the first week. With such a shift RE7 at best will be a slow burn like RE4 on GC.

This marketing director says the preorder numbers he has makes him confident Resident Evil 7 will reach this goal, so even though I sympathize with the skepticism expressed by so many in here I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

This. Capcom is insane. SFV still hasn't even shipped two millions and Dead Rising 4 will likely never achieve that.

I wanna say SFV did ship two million unless digital sales are making up a huge chunk of the what 1.2 million it sold?

DR4 though, yeah if it gets lucky on PS4, might make that. Hopefully ms ate a lot of the costs for it not making sales. Since they did a shit job marketing it, after blowing all their money on gow4 advertising.

Have fun with that shit Capcom. You're not going to meet that goal. I don't think you've met any goals lately. So, about Deep Down....

On shelves is indeed what they shipped... shipment means what they shipped to retail... retail put them on shelves before sell to final costumer (that is the sales thought).

Alright if that's the case thanks for the explanation and the ellipses.

We have official shipped numbers for SFV and they are at 1.4M, including digital.

Well, at least it wasn't trying to be COD/Michael Bay bombastic set-pieces that is Biohazard 6. I hope for all the best of them. We need good survival horror titles back.

It is sad because it is the best fighting game I ever played.

But it underperformed... 1.4m shipped + digital as of End of September.
