Capcom targeting 4m day 1 sales for Resident Evil 7

We have official shipped numbers for SFV and they are at 1.4M, including digital.
It is sad because it is the best fighting game I ever played.

But it underperformed... 1.4m shipped + digital as of End of September.

That's not sold through. That's what it's listed as on capcom platinum sellers and I recall that isn't used for shipment numbers. Guess I was wrong about that.

Shipment + digital... it is wrote in the site.

Edit - Seems like they removed from the site lol but it is shipment + digital.

They must be planning a big marketting push in the coming weeks.

This is the first RE game that is sorta made for the youtuber audience, maybe that's what they are targeting. I'm not sure if that's the case and also not if it will pay out if they do. I don't know how this translates to sales but I believe games like Five Nights at Freddys owe their success largely to youtubers/streamers (I could be wrong here too, I don't have numbers so maybe they are less successful than I think?)

I had a good laugh. They can ship as much as they want to, but I'll be surprised if the game actually sells more than 0.4 million copies on day 1.

I'm really looking forward to it but there seems to be more moaning that it isn't RE6.5 on here than actual hype for the game..

Really hope it's not a bomba, they might not even bother with an 8

They can ship as much as retail wants to accept I guess you tried to say ;)

Preorders and retail interest about the game looks to be good... I can't see why people think this game will sell bad (like your 400k)... it is RE with a really good focus.

They sell well. But they're also vastly cheaper and available on iOS as well. So kind of the same idea, but if they're banking on that I don't think it'll translate as much as they're hoping.

Where are you guys getting shipped from?

Speaking to MCV, EMEA marketing director Antoine Molant said that the firm’s ambition is to sell 4m units in its first day on shelves worldwide. The exec cites strong pre-orders for the horror title.

Well that's...ambitious. Has any RE game sold 4 million copies day one? Part of me thinks this doesn't even make it to 2 million.

"on shelves"

These are probably "sold to the public" numbers instead of "sold through to consumer" numbers which would basically be shipped to retail + digital sales.

Is it ??? No returning fan favorites characters, first person view... Good freaking luck with that target Capcom.
It is the first RE in a decade that fells like RE.

It is close to a new "remake" of original RE.

It is the day one shipment before stores open... it is wrote in the OP "on shelves"... it possible didn't include digital because it is the first shipment only before sales happens.

Of course they're targeting high, but I don't think the game's budget is even close to being as high as for RE6 so they propably don't need that much to break even. It doesn't have the kind of blockbuster setpieces going for it that are mega expensive to produce. It looks more like something that indie outfits could and have done, both in gameplay and graphical quality ( I think it edges out the most obvious indie comparisons of course).

Why? Because it's not action oriented with plenty of ammo available to mow down everything in sight? Capcom is about to receive a rough wake up call.

People are really overlooking this.

In addition to the feeling of bloat and lack of focus it added, RE6 had multiple teams globally and a development staff of over 600.

That doesn't factor into them projecting Day 1 as high sales but they are launching on three platforms, they must be reading good preorders in, marketing hasn't kicked in full yet, demos are now hitting Xbox and PC, they still have the run up weeks to pull out high profile TV / YouTube slots - I can see why they are bullish

After 6 that is straight up lunacy. I do hope the game is as good as it looks and that it's ultimately a success though, we need Capcom back on track.

It's obviously not going to hit those numbers on the first day, but mark my words, this game will sell 5 million plus. The horror genre is starved, PT presented an itch we didn't know we had, and this game scratches it.

I dunno. I recall someone saying the development was just as big. Plus you have to consider the wasted funds on prior versions that didn't become anything. They started dev right after 6. But this version of RE7 didn't start until 2014

Can that not mean "on shelves" as in "on it's first day available for purchase"?
I'm not really sure what you trying to say... on shelves means on retail shelves to people buy it.

Of course on day one people can buy all them or not.

As a long time fan of the series, since the first day the first entry was released, i have to admit i'm very much ashamed for laughing so hard right now.

It won't do 4m even in the long run.

This is the kind of game that streamers and youtubers can get a lot of mileage out of, and will do wonders for promoting the game. Action RE isn't the kind of game that that market really cares about or thinks is interesting, so we'll see how current market trends and the way horror games catch fire on streaming/youtube will affect RE sales.

Some facts.

- Resident Evil 7 Teaser Demo was downloaded over 3 million time when it was Plus Exclusive (as of early September).
- 31,951 users rated this demo 5 Stars in US PS Store page.

That is one of the reasons... there are a lot like exploration, tension, environment, puzzle, etc.

This game could be the first GOTY content in 2017.

We'll see how well it does on that front. The one benefit a lot of those games have on those channels are cheaper prices. FNAF and a lot of those other titles are like 20 or less.
I don't see it doing much of the way in helping a huge day one. But I can see it helping with the title becoming a slow burn much like RE4 was through word of mouth.

First off ratings don't mean much on PSN. About any AAA release has 5 stars. It's more impressive to find stuff that doesn't. Since people seem to use the store as 1 or 5 when it comes to ratings.

3 million downloads doesn't equate 3 million sales. It was a free item and PS+ is a requirement for MP now, so a lot of people have it.

That's not to say those numbers aren't impressive, but you do have to consider the other factors as well.
