Capcom targeting 4m day 1 sales for Resident Evil 7

In a month? Certainly possible considering that I'm sure the game will be very well received.

In a day? You're insane. RE6 soured the brand and people are going to be cautious with the change in gameplay and tone.

Do people just read the title? Nowhere in the actual article does it say Capcom is targeting 4m day one sales.

There is even a direct quote:

“Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great."

"We'd love to..." "...would be great"

He goes on to say that they think they can sell 4m based on pre-order numbers, and they're aiming to achieve that. Yes, they're probably not going to get there. But it's not the official target. The official sales projection is 4m by March 31, 2017.

Of course most are just going in based off the thread title. Especially if it supports the garbage attitude they want to push.

Anyway, by March that's entirely possible if they crank up the marketing alongside the movie (Anderson one; doubt many give a shit about the animated one) marketing. Good reviews may even tip it past that to RE5/6/2 numbers.

You can't hurt your franchise with a bad game then expect a good sequel to matter. This feels like SE with Final Fantasy XV. From what I hear, RE7 is going to be really, really good. If it is, RE8 should sell very well.

I believe this will reach the target.

It is RE after all and the first in a decade to really get the original RE vibe.

Fans are starving.

Maybe it will, but I doubt it'll do so day 1, I consider myself a fan, however I'm pretty disappointed with the direction of REVII and it's gonna be the first time I'll skip a RE game.

I wish them all the best though

Reading is hard.

This tells me they're going to massively overship and the price will drop like a stone. No reason for me to buy on day one.

If it was Resident Evil 2 and a return to form
But with the new direction?
They'll be lucky if that was the lifetime sales.

During the summer they were targeting 4 million SHIPPED by the end of the fiscal year which was refreshingly realistic for Capcom. But 4 million day one? That is an outrageous number.

Though I wonder if the wording was just poor and they mean 4 million copies shipped to stores/digital day one. That's high but possible in my opinion... But they probably mean sold-through.

The first was the official target. This is what they hope/would like it to do. It's the same as when Tabata saying they wanted FFXV to sell 10m.

Wow at people in this thread. They don't even read the content.
I know you hate RE7 direction and want to shit on it as much as you can but come on, it's no GTA but it's still freaking RE, it will sell.

That sounds incredibly optimistic. It doesn't even feel like the game is out soon. Did Capcom forget how to properly market a game this gen or something?

Judging from the lacklustre minute long trailer repurposing already seen footage at the last major conference prior to RE7's release, I'd say so.

I can see them shipping 4 million but I wouldn't be shocked if this did those numbers. Coming out on 3 platforms. It's got the community very excited, and a lot of what we've seen is pretty good. People love the vibe of it. It'll have to review well but I'm thinking works of mouth will help it a lot.
