Capcom targeting 4m day 1 sales for Resident Evil 7

They are probably hoping it blows up in the Let's Play market with the change to first-person horror. Let's see if it works.

This series lost me, storywise, from Resident Evil 5. From what I understand, this is a complete reboot? Obviously the Resident Evil brand still generates huge sales figures, but at this stage that name actually puts me OFF the game.

Prob be the worst selling main RE game.

Don't know why they took such a departure from other games. Too much risk.

Edit: I really hope it sells tons.

They told shareholders they expect 4 million until the end of March so I guess they are expecting the first shipment to take a while to sell.

Pure hypothetical out of interest, it won't happen but say if Capcom announced a small REmake 2 demo attached to RE7 as the code on the Beginning Hour demo teased...would it affect your decision to not jump in Day one if you're on the fence?

It's a soft reboot. It's still connected to the universe and has returning characters. But it's aceasier starting point.

I doubt it would add much for sales. The RE6 demo didn't save Dragons Dogma. Nor the FFXV demo with type 0

This is the kind of game that streamers and youtubers can get a lot of mileage out of, and will do wonders for promoting the game. Action RE isn't the kind of game that that market really cares about or thinks is interesting, so we'll see how current market trends and the way horror games catch fire on streaming/youtube will affect RE sales.

well I'm sure this is what Capcom's banking on. I doubt it will work out for them as well as they think. Even the most popular youtuber-bait horror games don't put out RE4-6 numbers.

It definitely won't appeal to fans of 'action RE', but the series sold well long before that became a thing. There's a certain group that seems to think this is an actual proper return to classic RE but it just feels like a few loud folks on GAF that think the rest of us haven't read previews. I did, I just don't trust them. At all.

So if someone like me who has bought basically every RE game is on the fence, where are they gonna find these 4 million?

Fuck them if they do this because they will get my money. Shit.

If REmake is REally REmake, then fine, if it's RE2x2 then they can get bent.

First off ratings don't mean much on PSN. About any AAA release has 5 stars. It's more impressive to find stuff that doesn't. Since people seem to use the store as 1 or 5 when it comes to ratings.

3 million downloads doesn't equate 3 million sales. It was a free item and PS+ is a requirement for MP now, so a lot of people have it.

That's not to say those numbers aren't impressive, but you do have to consider the other factors as well.
Yes I know.... I forget to say the ratings are only for US Store too.

3 million are impressive for a demo I guess... few big game can have that or more... and I believe this number increased a lot after it become free to everybody... less half of PS4 users have Plus.

Not only that... they will focus heavily in marketing in January I guess.

I expect a 90+ metascore that will drive sales and hype near release.

Everything until now is being really great for RE7 release... let't see if they can continue the good job until release.

Are reviews out for RE7 yet? Or are they manufacturing hype to hook millions of preorders that on some systems are non refundable.
There are great previews... Reviews will be out possible near release next month.

What's with Capcom always having these ridiculous sales targets. I still remember when they were saying they wanted at least 10 million lifetime sales from Dragon's Dogma.

If every GAF users buys ~20 copies we might can do it.
#NoDRM was a success why not this, let's get a hashtag train going.

FFXV did 5 millions despite the disappointing japanese debut
Considering the sell in data I think is doable

I'm hyped for a new RE for the First time after RE4, but 4 millions on day one seems a bit too much to me, also because I think this new RE will not be really appealing for Japanese users.

That was just the director saying it would be nice to sell that number. Something to strive for.

4 million for this game doesn't sound unreasonable given the wildly different direction of this game and the sales of the latest major releases and remasters.

One day Capcom will have abandoned every single one of their IPs. They'll be forced to make new releases like CAPCOM GAME #3 and UNTITLED SHOOTER PROJECT.

Nah.

No multiplayer, switch to first person, and the intentional sluggishness (lack of aiming controls and extremely narrow FOV with slow turning) will turn off many casual fans.

After viewing the new gameplay videos I can appreciate what Capcom is trying to accomplish here, but it's not going to do RE5/6 numbers, it's not built for that.

They are threatening the fans that if they don't buy this day 1 and reach 4M, you will never see another RE again.

j/k

Sounds like they are preempting a studio closure?

Dont want to be negative, but BF1, the biggest release of the year, sold less than 1 million in the first WEEK (based on estimates)

If they think that they can crack 4 million on day 1 they are delusional

While I do think that RE7 could go on to sell four million copies over time, I don't think shipping four million copies on day one is a wise idea.

First Square wants insanse numbers, now Capcom? We get it, you've had AMAZING marketing at this point, but slow down just a little bit.

Lmao. They won't even sell 400k in its first month in NA.

The demos have fucking sucked too. It's barely even a game. This thing is going to flop hard
