Capcom targeting 4m day 1 sales for Resident Evil 7

I wouldn't even say the reception of RE6 would go against RE7 more than the shift once again in style.

The shift in style will also have an affect on sales (whether positive or negative remains to be seen), but I'm referring to the casual gaming consumer who doesn't rely on information before buying something. Resident Evil is a strong enough brand that people will consider picking it up off the shelf based on the name alone. If RE6 disappointed them (as I'm quite sure it did for many), it's going to make RE7 a harder sell. Same with the next Street Fighter title. The launch of V has damaged that brand big time.

Capcom is beyond delusional if they think RE7 will sell even half that much. I think the game looks interesting but it is a pretty big departure from previous RE games.

You know, one thing I hadn't considered is that RE7 having the best international support for a RE entry to date may very well help it quite a bit. It's the first RE game which has multiple language dubs supported on day 1 and even more in subtitles (RE6 had support, but you had to download a separate thing for it since it couldn't fit on the disk and it wasn't on release). RE has surprisingly huge communities in different parts of the world. Like, I knew this from a friend and some of the biggest RE communities, but Resident Evil is HUGE in South America, and many SA languages are supported in subs and they have Spanish dub on disk on release... Without exaggerating, Resident Evil is one of the biggest series to South America (after FIFA) and is hugely popular in several countries there, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil, Peru, El Salvador, etc.). But even without that, I wonder how RE7 having multiple dub languages on release.

It's something not thought about often, but RE is pretty big in other places in the world, and this is the first RE game that has such big international support for different languages on day 1, plus releasing at the same time pretty much internationally (some countries only lag a day or two behind) PLUS the first major entry that releases on PC the same day as consoles. I wonder how all of this will effect it?

In terms of what they go with for a wider audience, I'd say the more recent

Trailer they showed at PSX is pretty hype a casual audience / show before RE movie in cinemas

Its self explanatory and certain doesn't look lacking of action, so I don't get why people are using that as a complaint

I'm just talking in a general sense. Though I'm sure we're in for at least one more trailer.

That's true. Will be interesting to see if the length of time, the titles in between, and if early reviews that aren't positive can help it out.

4M yes, 4M day one no. Or you need to have huuuuge marketing shit behind it to push it, but even with that... 4M day one is HUGE. He says they'd love to, but that's it, of course 4M day one would be great, I think with a release day one on PC/PS4/XO there's a chance to go higher than 6M in it's lifetime, but 4M day one no way.

But it's the first time that a canon Resident Evil releases at the same time on PC and consoles. Also youtubers (who have a lot of power to convince people to buy things) love to play scary games, especially scary games like this RE7.

This is one of the main reasons I think the game is going to sell gangbusters. You can see the DNA of what I consider the "big three" streaming horror games (Outlast, PT, and Amnesia) all over RE7 - but this time instead of a smaller indie title (or demo) it's a full retail AAA title with a hugely recognized brand behind it. YouTube and Twitch streamers are going to go crazy over this game and it's going to lead to a whole lot of exposure for new younger audiences who were too young for RE4 (or even RE5 and RE6.)

Is the demo considered canon/needed to get the full game's story, considering all the updates to it? I only played the original and deleted it, then I couldn't redownload it on my ps4 :/

I believe it is standalone/not related but you can get a coin for the full game by doing obtuse things and completing the demo.

It's nice to want things. I guess the name could push it but theres a lot of doubt out there about the new games style. I'd imagine a lot of people are going to be waiting for reviews\word of mouth.

Once again.

THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL SALES TARGET

/caps. My apologies

Quoting myself from before:

Do people just read the title? Nowhere in the actual article does it say Capcom is targeting 4m day one sales.

There is even a direct quote:

“Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great."

"We'd love to..." "...would be great"

He goes on to say that they think they can sell 4m based on pre-order numbers, and they're aiming to achieve that. Yes, they're probably not going to get there. But it's not the official target. The official sales projection is 4m by March 31, 2017.

This may end up being the best RE since 4, but it won't do those numbers.
Alien Isolation was also an amazing game of the same genre type and it didn't impress

The RE brand has been damaged by their recent games as well

They are talking about sales, not shipment.
This game is new, it's a reboot and it's not for the same people who bought RE4/5/6. Do you really think they will sell MILLIONS on day 1?
I'm expecting low sales on day 1.
And you said it. RE6 was 600K on a weekend, and like 800.000K copies on the first week in the US. 300K copies on first day it's not too low, it's 2 million on the first week.

Capcom never talks about sales to customers. All of their sales reports are shipments (plus digital I guess).

Only 300k worldwide day 1 is a ridiculous estimate. Day 1 sales are like 60-75% of the first week sales.

You are predicting something like a 75% drop from the last game.

Plus the Capcom guy seems to think the pre-orders are very good, which counts as Day 1 sales. I doubt they'd consider the pre-orders to be good is they were 25% of the last entries Day 1 sales.

Bring it to Switch and I'll buy it, and all of the other games in the series too if it means I can bring them everywhere :D

It wouldn't be surprising if this is the game Capcon supports Switch with. RE is fairly friendly in general with Nintendo systems, Wii U being the big exception.

I dunno I think it could do it. First person horror games are still big YouTube fodder if the right YouTubers cover the game as well as people who will buy the game on brand recognition alone I could absolutely see REVII getting close to 4 million.

If Capcom are fucking smart they will put VII in the hands of big YouTubers like Pewdiepie and Markiplier as soon as they can to spread the word and get people excited for day one.

The closest comparison to this game is Alien Isolation which did about 2 million (ship/sold) I believe.

So RE7 should be able to manage lifetime 4 million. However the YouTube fodder is a double edged sword. It can push sales for your game, but at the same time just as many can go "well I already watched that guy play the entire game".

A big benefit of those horror games they usually play are the price. You're talking $3-$20 is usually the max price. A $60 dollar game is definitely harder to persuade people on.

Which is why if anything, I see the game rather than having big sales, just selling well consistently. Much like how RE4 struggled at first, but between word of mouth and REreleases has done very well.

1998 - July

Bizarre posts have recently occurred on RE threads, there are outlandish reports of this game being an outlast or P.T. knockoff.

Horror games have certainly seen a resurgence in recent years with quality titles and Twitch engagement pushing some sales, and RE is the granddaddy of them all, but it's also a franchise that stalled a long time ago and has been marred with weird-to-poor releases.

4m shipped in the first week, sure. Sold-through? Good luck.

The main character should have been a popular Resident Evil protagonist. This feels like a new horror game without any of the Resident Evil elements.

Puzzles, limited inventory, backtracking, preserve ammo/herbs/items. It has the most RE elements since code veronica to be honest

I mean I'll try to help on day 1 but good luck with that Capcom

FP view aside I think it's the most RE RE since 2003
