Capcom targeting 4m day 1 sales for Resident Evil 7

A main RE protag would not be scared by anything in the Baker house.

Yeah, same philosophy they had for introducing the new characters in RE2. Chris and Jill wouldn't be phased by anything after RE1, so they brought new blood in

I still wanna find a tape left by Chris where he's FALCON PAWNCHing stuff tho

It won't do 1 million day one. What a crazy thing to say.

4 million lifetime if they are very, very, very lucky.

Once again.

THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL SALES TARGET

/caps. My apologies

Quoting myself from before:

Yo, if my boss says:

"Ideally, we’d love to see you complete that report by Friday. That would be great. Looking at what we see in your work so far and trends these days, we’re pretty confident you are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the office, whether it’s from accounting or from engineering, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there."

You bet your ass he expects me to hand in that report on Friday. That is absolutely and unequivocally my target. If I miss that target it is absolutely going to be considered a failure.

The same applies here. Once you publicise an expectation, failing to meet it is a failure.

Eh, 4 million is easily doable for the franchise.

After 6? And with what seems to be a completely different direction for the series (again), no familiar characters, and a weird flirtation with VR?

4 changed things up massively and was fantastic, but lightning doesn't often strike twice. 0 was a hell of a better jumping off point than 6 too.

No matter what you or anyone says, nothing changes the fact that this isn't the official sales target, which is 4m by March 31, 2017.

No mainline numbered RE title outside of REmake and RE 0 have sold sub-4m lifetime.

6 may be hated on the net, but it still sold incredibly well over an extended period of time (so it wasn't just front loaded). Remasters of REMake and Zero sold over a million in a short period of time, and a low budget spin off managed to do the same (I'm sure all of those are well above that number now). There's really nothing to show that the franchise is in financially dire straights, and it's been a decent while since we had a mainline entry. So yes, even after 6, a lifetime of 4 million units is pretty doable.

Depends on the marketing and reception of the game.

The brand is not where it used to be either, I doubt they achieve those lofty targets given that.

I think they can hit their target. These types of games (first-person horror) are extremely popular on social media (i.e. Twitch, YouTube Gaming, etc), and combined with the Resident Evil brand and what I anticipate will be positive buzz, it can sell well.

If Alien Isolation can clear 1m then it's ridiculous to think RE won't be well ahead of that

The fan of Alien is much bigger than that of Resident Evil, in addition to fans like me do not like what they do the license, I have all the Resident Evil and that there I do not count buy it...

2 millions max .

Well I think 4 million is definitely doable. The REmake re-release sold over a million copies and that was only through digital downloads (before the REmake/0 retail). So a new main line RE is definitely hitting over 2 million easily. Not to mention it seems like the critics are enjoying it a lot based on impressions and add in how this game will be popular streaming but we'll see

I have no idea where any of you are getting that RE is either some niche brand or on its last leg or something. Like...seriously, the hell are some of you talking about lol

Unless it was Rebecca that is.

The idea of making a game somehow more scary by playing as a character who is just some regular, scare-prone guy is silly, either way. I don't understand Capcom's rationale behind it. RE works because its protagonists are heroic and fearless despite the nightmare scenarios and overwhelming odds.

As much I want a FPV RE to fail (sorta)
you speak truth.

Literally every numbered RE game outside of 0 has sold over 4 million units in its lifetime. Why do you think RE7 would be any different?

Optimistically I will say yes because of high fan out put. I was at PSX, and the line for the demo was long and the tickets that they were giving out had a limit of 64.

Realistically I will say no because of the direction (which personally I have nothing against), which is good for long-time fans of the series, but bad for newcomers who got used to the action of RE 5 and 6.

Based on what?

The stellar reception of Umbrella Corps, Resident Evil 6 & Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and continued declining interest in the brand.

Capcom lost a lot of goodwill achieved with previous entries of the franchise. They are starting from scratch and kidding themselves if they can achieve that day 1.

I want a big bag of money to fall out of the sky and hit me in the face. I'd say the odds of that happening are about the same as Capcom getting what they want too.

I don't think it has anything to do with being more "scary" but it does allow them to go in a certain narrative direction, (phone calls from someone helping, working out what is happening etc.. ) that just would not make sense with a S.T.A.R.S member.

People are arguing over he came selling 4 million lifetime when the op says 4 million day one lmao.

Game will probably do 4 million life time sure, not day one though.

Just lol... This is a niche game...

Resident Evil is niche?

This seems unachievable. Especially for a horror game.

Soma has done at least half a million at this point and that had no brand recognition, didn't launch on three platforms simultaneously and hasn't had the demo / YouTube PR nor backing of a still major studio.

Amnesia was a similarly low key title and did just under a million in a year just on PC and Mac after launch.

Some of you guys are insane in your guesstimates

I think Ethan will end up a badass after going through the Baker house, ending with killing the final boss with one liners and stuff, its only a matter of time.
Anywayz, good to see they are diversifying their character roster it was needed.going from the typical B.O.W/S.T.A.R.S stuff is a breath of fresh air
