Capcom wants to break records with Monster Hunter 4

How's the 3DS userbase in comparison to the PSP when the PSP game launched?

They should be set to beat those sales, shouldn't they? Seems like everyone is hyped for it and there are plenty of 3DS' out there.

Yeah, but the video's in 480p, and correct me if I'm wrong, but putting a video at a higher resolution than the actual 3DS resolution shouldn't magically create that much lack of AA. Well, it's a portable game anyway, and the MH team has never liked making their games look current-gen, so that's not really on the 3DS.

Blowing up a game to a higher resolution than what it's internally rendered at is exactly what causes "lack of AA" as you put it

Release it on multiple platforms and it will break records. Stop siding with one company

Funny Capcom was a port house for years throwing their games everywhere, we used to criticise them for that.
Now they are on that Nintendick hard. Seems like a bad time in both companies history to make such choices.

Yes because you're a reliable source of information on japanese preorders.

Sorry bro, nice try tho.

Well I did say 'apparently', don't cite me as being a source. Seeing how many Japanese are leaving negative comments and, for example, rating this official video down is hardly reliable because it's Youtube, it's just my own conjecture.

In Japan the digital sales are going to be colossal, might break records on that front. Physical sales might suffer from that a bit, but I expect a strong showing. Combined physical and digital should be comparable to MHP3.

Please stop asking for ports, jeez.

gonna laugh real hard if they don't even reach P3rd numbers

fingers crossed

I know you would be sad if it indeed did reach Portable 3rd's numbers, but I never thought it would. I see it topping out within about 3.5 ~ 3.8mil. I hope I'm wrong though and it does reach 4 million.

I think launching so close to Pokemon might hinder it, but then, new 3DS releases have a great effect on past titles, so I'm a bit undecided about this. Either way, I can't wait to see what happens.

If they want to break records they will need to release it on multiple systems.

edit: whoa, that video looks awful. good frame rate but it looks terrible graphically.

I dunno I'm optimistic about MH4, but P3rd came out at a time where EVERYONE and even their grandma had a PSP already

The way I see it, people leaving negative comments on Youtube, GAF, or wherever are just salty and refuse to buy a 3DS. That really means little when it comes to actual numbers, just a vocal minority the way I see it until we have factual information.

Which PSP game? The PSP had a bigger userbase and more MH titles on it leading to the release of MHP3rd. I don't think this will match MHP3rd (4.8m) or (possibly) MH2G (4m), but I could be wrong, we'll see. It'll be big, regardless.

MHP3rd broke records being a PSP exclusive.

Yeah, bad time for Nintendo to lock one of the most powerful jp franchise and bad time for Cacpom to sell their game on the best selling handheld (and console in Jp). Sure ...

If they want to break records they will need to release it on multiple systems.

No, they will release it multiple times on a unique ecosystem.

I, for one, await the inevitable Pokemon/Monster Hunter crossover.

Yep.

I don't think you quite understand how these things.

So, it's conjecture? You don't even know why they're leaving such comments? For all we know, they could just be mad at the channel hosting the video.

Edit: Work. How these things work. Maybe I need more sleep...

Guys, the port-begging is gonna get even worse as we approach release and probably hit fever pitch when the game drops and people see those 3DS fly off shelves. So you ain't seen nothin' yet...

Also, what was the PSP's install base in Japan when MHP3rd launched compared to the 3DS now? I imagine the PSP was larger, no?

EDIT: Thanks, Sammy.
3DS: 12M
PSP: 15M

So if MH4 doesn't reach MHP3rd's 4.7mil with 3mil fewer 3DS in the wild (in Japan), is that a disappointment? I know for certain people (of a certain faction) it will be no matter what, but, I'm talking about reasonable folks.

Hahaha, I love the pretentiousness of some of you guys posting here, my favourite comments being:

and:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hardware sales come around from both first and third party software. I'm not talking about saving the Vita at all, as far as I'm concerned, the best is yet to come there. But the point remains, at E3 you saw lots of big third party companies at the platform holders conferences to advertise their products and hopefully sell more of them.

Do you think they only turn up after the platform makers first party titles had sold enough of them to deem them worthy of development? What is this, Wii-U? (Okay, too low, I'm just playing.)

I don't see why Capcom wouldn't want to bring Monster Hunter to Vita. It's got a great following on PSP and the brand is somewhat synonymous with handheld gaming, Nintendo isn't the only company in this space and both Sony and Capcom could profit on this. Ubisoft posted positive sales on Vita with Rayman and Assassin's Creed. The potential is there, nobody seems to use it and the more Capcom ingnore it, the more some fans become indifferent to it and like me, I'll stop caring. Soul Sacrifice was just as good a game as Monster Hunter, even if it is a clone. I'll just buy future Soul Sacrifice installments when they're released and Monster Hunter if it comes to Vita when it's cheap. Sony profit on those sales and Capcom, less so.

See? Missing potential.

Because the Vita has shit all install base, and the highest third party seller on it has sold around 200k. It's a niche platform plain and simple. It's barely worth Capcom's time.

Whichever sold the most, I guess.

3DS: 12M
PSP: 15M.
Fairly close then. Should be interesting to watch. I'd assumed it was going to smash the PSP numbers effortlessly from all the hype, but I'd forgotten how big the PSP was in its day.

Although the game is clearly 3DS exclusive for obvious reasons involving headwear and currency, there's really no other platform that Capcom could realistically* release MH4 on that would complement the 3DS release to such a worthwhile degree.

That said, I'd be surprised if future iterations remain exclusive. And it'll probably be those games that'd be breaking records.

*so not consoles, seeing as it'd look like a shit sandwich without some serious work

If you want to break numbers..release it multiplat and worldwide...not just Japan.

Edit: You know like the Activision way ;p

I don't think you quite understand how these things.

I think you a word there.

As for the interview itself, well, it's great to want things. I think they do stand a chance of selling a lot of copies, if perhaps not as many as they dream. I *do* wish that they'd announce a Western release date...

just so happens to also be the best Monster Hunter

This in combination with Pokémon will result in insane 3DS hardware and software sales.

Japan will be Nintendoland those weeks

MH really took off in Japan with MHP2G. Sold 1.5 million its first week in march 2008 so little over 3 years after psp launched.

Those are bitter, salty Vita trolls. They only number a few million, so they hardly matter.

EDIT: Sorry, meant to quote Dio with this response.
