Capcom wants to break records with Monster Hunter 4

As someone who jumped in at Monster Hunter 3, I was completely alienated by the series, and I likely will never come back.

Am I the only one who doesn't get this Monster Hunter craze? I understand the appeal, but the game feels so archaic in its mechanics. Pages of quests.....millions of random doo dads to search throught your inventory...S Bones, P bones, Super P bones...ugh!

Alright - all the other PSP ports but the first one. But back when the first one released, it wasn't the phenomenon that it became with 2.

Recent famitsu numbers put 3U at 1.9m, putting it above 2nd vanilla.

I'm not that familiar with the capabilities of the 3DS, but it doesn't seem very well suited for such games. The world, and especially the ground textures, in games with a slightly large world always seem to be blurry on the 3DS. Or is that somehow art related?

Anyways, as others have said before, I think Monster Hunter would be a great fit for the Vita - it can push the system further in terms of graphics and quality, the triggers, the screen, etc.

It would be a much better fit for PC where the series can be pushed the furthest in all areas.

Too bad this is reality.

Same reasons as the people who come in and say MH is worse than Dark Souls/Spul Sacrifice/Gods Eater/Ragnorok Odyssey, they just want to get it off their chest

It's all fine I guess but MH topics just seems to get more posts of that ilk than others

Trying but not quite being able to get into a game seems like a really weird thing to have to get off your chest. I couldn't get into Assassin's Creed, but you don't see me in AC threads letting everybody know.

MonHun has never generally been one for terrific texture work. Most of the praise for the graphics has come from the art and the animation, which are absolutely top-notch.

I mean, look at screens of MHFG on the PS3 and Wii U. It is quite literally a 2006 PS2 game in HD.

Sales for this won't be an issue going forward. They'll have every opportunity to break records when this series goes exclusively mobile.

No way would people like the controls. It already requires time to get used to the controls of MH games, and full touchscreen controls would not help that.

I guess so... Huh I never thought of it like that and I am a huge MH fan lol!

Yeah why do you guys always pick on this series so much?

AC was always much bigger than MH worldwide and the first MH port sold much less than the first port on the PSP.

Animal Crossing is slightly larger than Monster Hunter in Japan, which supports my point. The 3DS MH port way outsold the first PSP port. It surpassed Capcom's expectations by a solid amount. 3DS can definitely support the sales of MH4.

Overly ambitious Capcom is overly ambitious. Even if the 3DS had a userbase of 20 million I still don't think that this game would shatter records. It has a lot of hype and I expect 3 million+ but that isn't record breaking unless you do some serious goal post moving.

Also lol at the port begging.

I think one of the things Capcom needs to do to ensure success is manage their initial and future shipments. I remember they over shipped with Tri which left a lot of retailers stuck with stock.

Well, the PS3 one is a port of a PSP game.

I personally think it'll break 3rd's record handily.

Not only is the install base growing steadily on the back of other software but the release will sell a shitload of systems as well.

Different game. That's a port of MHP3rd, which did replace a few textures for better looking ones. MH3G also had similar work done to it, as the monsters had better texturing and much higher quality shadow maps. In general, though, it's not been a huge focus for the series.

Haven't seen port begging this bad since the Bayonetta 2 or W101 threads. "Are we sure it's Nintendo exclusive?" Anyway, like I said earlier, unless Capcom has something special planned for the release I can only just see it selling well

I can honestly say that if MH4 were to release on Vita, I'd still pick up the 3DS version though simply because I know more people with a 3DS that play the series. Just me personally tho, I mean I bought a couple Vitas for MHFU and it does look nice...I just don't know anyone else who has one.

Capcom is talking about wanting this title to break records, yet people bring PS Vita to the discussion, it makes all the sense in the world lol

If Monster Hunter 4 doesn't face supply constraints that could kill momentum, so far it's not looking likely since Pokémon X / Y will be released just a month later and Nintendo maybe can't produce enough carts, it might have a chance.

dat port begging.
I'm not begging, I'm not a Monster Hunter fan, never have been. I was just stating the obvious.

I want to assure you that you're probably the first person ever to have come to this conclusion.
Heh, I know I'm being way too obvious.

Getting it on Vita would only help Vita lol.
Considering Capcom's current situation I wouldn't be so sure, it'd definitely help them too given their unstable IPs.

I'm pretty sure it won't remain exclusive for 3DS. But at the same time, I'm not seeing any other platform that could boost its sales considerably. DS downport? :P

"I-it's not like I want to play Monster Hunter on Vita or anything! It just would be better if you ported it there as well, Capcom you big baka!"

PSP? The hardware is about the same as a 3DS, I doubt they'd have to touch any of the graphics :P

Trying my hardest to not care about 4 until it's confirmed for localization. Maybe we'll have to wait for the 4G/4U or whatever, but I'm trying my best to not watch anything or to get hyped, because waiting a few years is going to suck :(

Just so everyone knows, the top 10 highest first weeks in Japan are all exclusives. And when he said break records, I'm pretty sure he was only talking about Japan, so ports or localizations aren't really necessary.

Weren't half of the games that Capcom's mobile division announced some kind of MonHun spinoff? They're going in deep with the franchise now.

There is money to be made with mobile especially in the Japanese gaming industry. There was that recent thread about how much profits are being made via mobile than vs. traditional consoles. Mobiles become more capable every year so there'd be no reason not to expect a mainline MH title on a mobile platform down the road, especially considering that the series isn't exactly bleeding edge.

Don't worry guys, given Capcom's decision to constantly make the series look like a painting from a guy who had the sun in his eyes, I'd expect an N-Gage port any day now

still super excited for this game, each trailer is like mana from heaven

oop at all the portbegging. 3ds will continue to slay. mh4 will be the best one yet.

Well I think it would be safe to assume it will come out next year.
