Capcom's Yoshinori Ono interested in Nintendo vs. Capcom

In Brawl, Pokemon Trainer has 3, and in the game you can carry what, 6? So that's just 2-3 slots tops. Plety of room for other characters.
I was just trying to figure out how many pokeymanz are out there.

This better be for 3DS if it happens. It can be Nintendo's portable answer to Super Smash Bros.

SSFIV is a great start.

Imagine Nintendo characters rendered with MT Framework Mobile!

Let's face it, Nintendo more than likely won't go that far in the graphics department, but you never know.

They didn't.

Matter of fact Capcom admitted that they didn't, but Megaman was available for Sakurai to ask to be in Smash.

To be brief, that really doesn't sit with me as being accurate, or at least omitting the reason why. The problem is if I sit here and detail it, people just go "lol tinfoil hat," but it's not as if Nintendo is particularly forthcoming when they're holding a grudge. (And that doesn't mean Sakurai personally.)

Honestly, it sounds like both parties were too lazy to actually contact each other.

Generally I like crossovers, but I don't think I'd be into this one. Stylistically, the major character of each company are too different, plus Capcom already has enough crossover titles going on right now. (MvC3, SFvT, TvSF, Gyakuten vs. Layton) And if anything, the next crossover should be Capcom vs. SNK 3.

Plus, there are a million fighter IPs Capcom should be working on first. Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, Slam Masters, Power Stone, etc. Focus on these please Ono.

I'd take a Power Stone 3 or Rival Schools revival. Still waiting for DBZ vs Street Fighter.

oh god

the (relative) balance and focus of SF's gameplay

plus the ideas and innovation of the smash team

oh my god

Subspace missionary, tripping, bunch of characters having the same goddamn final smashes. Yep gotta love those ideas.

Totally. They should clue the MK team on this orgy

Ansatsuken fighters vs. Plumbers vs. Ninjas
vs. Saikyo

I would buy 500 copies.

Mario vs. Mega Man, Ryu and Captain Falcon facing off... good times.

Maybe a Power Stone style game?

My god why didn't I think of this before... It would be the ultimate...

Me too.

In all reality, though, if Capcom/Ono has expressed interest in the past, I doubt Nintendo hasn't caught wind of it yet. For that reason alone, I shouldn't get my hopes up. It would seem to me that Nintendo just isn't interested.

RIGHT?!

Ono is a nice guy who says a lot of things he would like to do. Doesn't mean it actually will happen. I love his enthusiasm though.

Needs to be Rival Schools style, leave Smash as it is.

Fixed, to make it a bit more what I think would be for the best. Rival Schools-based systems would likely be used to more interesting effect, especially when we have the likes of "Party Up" Supers that could be used to interesting ends to compliment both sides of the roster.

Only problem is that there's going to be a limit to Nintendo characters. There wouldn't be any room for obscure characters like on Capcom's side. Looking at Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for example, there's 13 characters on each side, and for Nintendo that could be just a bunch of Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and misc. iconic characters at most.

Well, them's the breaks when you pretty much do a lot to start out with a new game series. If anything, I'm hoping that if they tried to do anything close to a "serious/traditional" fighting game, it would mean that Nintendo would have to actually do some thinking about who they want in such a game.

For example, Pikachu, a largely quadrupedal creature, may not likely work as well in a game of that style, while some one more along the lines of Mewtwo (who's just as recognizable) would.

Any way, the most I'm hoping is that it would be a thing much like with the Namco deal: each party gets a chance to make a game based on what they do best, and we go on from there...

I was excited for this until I saw that he wanted to talk to Sakurai about it. Interest level dropped to pretty much zero. If this happens, Sakurai needs to be as far as fucking possible from it. He'll try and make some bullshit story mode to make sense of the whole thing and put shitty online on the game. No fucking thank you.
Subspace Emissary was hilarious. We'd be lucky if every crossover fighter had a story like that.

Amaterasu says what what?

Did people really hate the Subspace Emissary story? I thought it was amusing and it had some pretty awesome scenes at times. I can understand hating the gameplay of that mode because it was pretty bad at times but I never thought the story was ever offensive.

And capturing that one Blue dude with a pokeball trophy stand was pure irony and I loved doing it.

The plot was pretty ridiculous but then again it's a fighting game so it shouldn't be some award winning story. The problem with it was the gameplay was beyond shit, and the fact that they supposedly spent most of their time on that.

would be cool to see, but it means Nintendo would have to share the wealth so you know they aren't interested

Yeah, that sure stopped Sega from releasing a sequel to Mario and Sonic @ the Olympic Games.

My grandma could write a better videogame story that what the fucking FF7 writer did in Brawl. What a piece of shit it was, so much potential lost and so easy to do.
As separate pieces of scenery with cool intros it was good, but the main story, that could have been the typical, but very awesome, villians make a team to stop the good guys once for all, it was a piece of shit.

Just copy the basic story of Disney's Fantasmic! show and call it a day, it would have been a thousand times better.

And dont get me started of the shitty placeholder story that idiot did... "And the nintendo characters arrive with a school bus to a stadium..."

I was at the roundtable, Ono was easily the most awesome guy that day. Instead of walking away right after his presentation, he sticked around for autographs and pictures and made jokes about the European release of Super Street Fighter IV arcade. It was a shame that the translator delivered his lines devoid of emotion but he had a rough day being the only translator around that day.

I remember when the guy next to me raised his hand when Ono asked who 'wasn't' going to buy Street Fighter and he adressed him personally with the single-cart demo thing. Cool to see such a devoted developer at work. Also, when someone asked about the limitations of the demo, he said that it wasn't the full game or Capcom would go bankrupt.

Capcom should just ask Nintendo to let them do a Monster Hunter vs. Pocket Monsters and release it exclusively for 3DS. Japan would explode.

Imagine if they had a deal similar to the Street Fighter/Tekken crossovers, where there's BOTH a MvC3-style game and a SSBB-style game in development, simultaneously. There could be some gargantuan list of characters, the same roster in both games.

If, however, it proves impractical to include all the marquee stars while adding obscure characters, I'd rather they favor the obscure characters. For instance, instead of Pikachu, opt for Mewtwo (he'd feel more at home in the Vs. Capcom universe anyway).

Some Nintendo characters I'd love to see in a Vs. Capcom:

+ GENO (obscure but oft-requested Super Mario RPG character)
+ GANON (his trident-wielding pig form -- a fresh change of pace from SSB)
+ RIDLEY (Samus' arch-nemesis -- about time we play as him)
+ MEWTWO (fits the Vs. Capcom tone; could play a "villains" role in plot)
+ KYLE HYDE (hero of Hotel Dusk and Last Window, complete with pencil shading!)
+ CHIBI-ROBO (a new Nintendo IP with no playable rep in SSB)
+ LIP ("Fairy of Flowers" from Panel de Pon on Super Famicon)
+ JILL (from Drill Dozer on GBA -- could play like Tron Bonne)
+ TAKAMARU (from Japan-only Famicon title Nazo no Murasame-jō)
+ CAPTAIN RAINBOW (from Japan-only Wii title of the same name)
+ SAKI (from original Sin & Punishment)
+ SUKAPON (from Japan-only Famicon title Joy Mech Fight) ((See below))

Capcom vs Nintendo would work perfectly in a mix of VS series and Pocket Fighter

I also vote for 2 games, one in vs style and one in smash style !

and ... i vote GENO ! huauhauhauhauha

I love all of these suggestions, except Hyde since I can't see him working at all. The whole pencil shaded aesthetic is an interesting concept though.

Maybe it can be one game but with a "Smash-groove" and a "Cap-groove".

There can be a variety of flat stages alongside Smash's multi-level stages.

Capcom-style fighting has been adapted to platform/action-adventure gameplay before (the SNES X-Men/Marvel Superheroes games).
