Captain America: Civil War SPOILER Thread - #TeamThanos

I actually thought the music during the final fight was really good. That whole part felt tonally and dramatically like the Luke vs Vader fight in Return of the Jedi. I don't know if anyone else felt the fight or music was similar, but I did, at least when Bucky fought Tony into a corner, tried to rip his reactor out, and lost an arm. That whole scene was extremely dramatic.

You know now that I think about it, Tony is kind of an asshole for getting some random teenager involved in the fight and then not even properly explaining the situation to him.

Isn't that why Tony freaks out and sends him back to queens. He sees what happens when Rhodey almost dies and has a bit of realization of what he's apart of.

It's an interesting point that Wanda and Peter are pretty close in age (i'm assuming Wanda is supposed to be 18-24), yet Tony only sees her as a potential threat.

I thought the same while watching it. He was also a dick to him during the fight itself

Well the whole spiderman thing is pretty much an analogy to his entire side. Authoritarian entity forces a hero to fight for a side they don't necessarily believe in, frames it as for the "greater good"

I wonder where Fury was during Civil War.

Could he not be bothered to get into the fight? Maybe he and The Wasp were on vacation.

[edit]

I don't know if I would call what Tony did blackmailing, honestly. Yeah he pretty much blackmailed him in the room but it seems like off-camera Tony explained the situation to him and Spidey ended up agreeing to not only fighting but with his point of view.

How does the airport scene get set up? I've heard Cap is there because he and Bucky need to fly to Siberia, but why is the rest of team Cap there? Why is team Stark there? I've read Stark tells Peter to come with him to Germany, so does Stark know a long time beforehand Cap will be there and he's assembling a team to fight them then?

Right there! They shopped Spidey out!

Hilarious. Should have known when all the trailers had 5 team Iron Man people (Panther, War Machine, Widow, Vision, Iron Man) running at 6 team Cap people (Cap, Falcon, Antman, Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch)

I liked when he realized they were running for real (great quip, really all his dialogue in the fight was great), he started moving faster than everyone on the ground.

Dat speed.

Sony is the MVP for preventing Marvel from showing Spidey action in marketing. Take literally any 10, no, 5 second clip and it'd bowl everybody over.

Would it be alright if you could point out where Spider-Man was taken out from that image?

You know, I honestly can't remember the specifics for why they were in Germany at that point.

He doesn't go down without first being the catalyst for a really cool action scene, though.

I'm trying to remember as well. I think that Cap's team went there for hiding, but I'm honestly struggling also. I think they realized Zemo was up to this and he was last seen going to Germany.

They were in Germany because after Bucky was caught in Bucharest, they took him to the headquarters of whatever police institution it was that caught him (interpol?) which was located in Berlin

Got this description from superhero hype about cap vs spidey. Sounds like cap played him like a fiddle

Basically Pete webs up Steves legs and pulls him to the ground.
Pete, being talkative Pete says that Stark Told him to go for the legs, when it comes to him fighting Cap.
Some banter back and forth, about what else Stark told him (that Cap is wrong)
Steve tries to out maneuver him to get away, but gets both wrists webbed, so his arms are spread apart, back to Spidey.
Cap tries to power out, but initially, to no avail.
Then Cap jumps forward, using the full weight and might of his body, twirling/corkscrewing in mid-air, which, actually pulls Peter towards Cap at a pretty fast pace.
Cap does a kick to Pete's torso, knocking the wind out of him and away.
Cap has it set up so a large chunk of debris falls on Pete, so he has no choice to hold it up, to prevent himself from getting crushed. (I can't remember if he does this or called one of his teammates to do it)
While Spidey is winded from Steves attack and holding up the heavy chuck of debris, they have their banter about where they are from.
Cap then proceeds to head to his destination (quinjet)

Cool action scene*

>Bucky is hiding out in Germany
>German SWAT type guys try and capture him, Cap stops them which turns him into a criminal
>BP chases the fuck out of Bucky to try and kill him
>Iron-Man shows up at the end and gets all 3 of them to stop, they all get detained
>Bucky is locked up in a small cell which locks his arms in place
>Zemo is called in, he activates Bucky, Bucky goes insane and beats the fuck out of all the soldiers there as he escapes
>Cap confronts Zemo, knows he activated Bucky again, wonders who the fuck he is
>Zemo escapes
>There's another action scene, Bucky ends up hitting his head and when he wakes up again, it's that scene we saw in Ant-Man but with somewhat different dialogue and different shots
>They realize Bucky was set up and he's of sound mind again
>They need to find more people to help them out since Iron-Man's team is coming after them, they recruit Ant-Man

Can't remember how they figure out Zemo is in Siberia at this point but I think their plan going forward is to get there as soon as possible which leads them to the airport.

I THINK that's mostly correct but I'm sure I'm not remembering bits here and there.

Yeah, they sneakily hid Spidey the whole time. The only inkling you saw of that is in the Japan trailer, cause someone fucked up

wow I completely missed that. Yeah, he's right there:

see that suspiciously empty space between black widow and war machine? yeah. lol.

I don't think they shopped him out more like they haven't added him yet.

I doubt even scarlet johanson is a real person there

yeah definitely lol, you know what I mean. they used footage where CG spidey wasn't even inserted yet :O

More random thoughts:
1. I'm so glad they managed to justify the running at each other scenes. Vision draws a line and is just like "alright enough fucking around, stop this shit or shit hits the fan" and everyone realizes that they have to go more serious.
2. I don't know how Hawkeye managed to get to Scott and Wanda into Germany
3. They know that Zemo is going to Siberia because Bucky remembers that's where the other soldiers were stored away. I can't recall why and how everyone ended up at the airport though.

From what I read it doesn't sound like a great showing for him vs cap.
It comes across as a lack of experience that is Spidey's Achilles heel. I really liked that he wasn't clowning on everyone. He's another MCU superhero now. He's got to take losses too.

So I'm really the only one who felt like I was watching a dramatic Star Wars fight when Cap and Bucky were taking on Tony at the end? Damn. Also it's stupid that Tony gave Peter a suit, but at least all the tech was Peter's. Tony was basically his glorified tailor. I took the suit as an alternative suit that Tony gave him but Peter could still make his own variant if he wanted to. Like an Avengers version. Spidey's had tons of suits. Better than getting the ugly Iron Spider.

Speaking of Spidey, the whole crowd cheered when they showed the Queens title card. Just the knowledge that we were about to see Spidey got everyone hyped up.

[edit]

I think Bucky stealing the motorcycle got the biggest cheer.

There were some gaps when BP took off his helmet to reveal that he was T'Challa.

[edit]

BIggest gasp was when Cap told Tony he knew Bucky killed his parents.

Lady who sat next to me had these tiny little gasps each time someone got hit really hard, it was pretty funny.

When he flipped that bike I was like "Oh fuck that was cool" lol

Not to keep throwing Whedon under the bus...but comparing how cool that looked next to Cap's silly motorcycle toss in Age of Ultron, it's exciting to have the Russos on for Avengers 3. Makes me wish Quicksilver survived to see how they'd handle super speed.

Now, I haven't watched the film, so I don't know if it came up, but, did BW get grief for not telling Tony about Bucky and his parents? She was in the room with Cap and Zola, too.

But she's still around on his side at the end of the movie, right? Or did Cap not explicitly say how he found out (Zola)?

She's actually the only one who switches sides.

When Tony finds out the only people there are Tony, Bucky, Cap, Zemo and BP. Everyone else is either arrested or hiding and they've no idea where Cap and CO are.

It's never explained that Cap found out from Zola, Tony just asks Cap if he knew about it already, I assume since he knows he's so buddy buddy with Bucky.

I don't think Tony would be -that- pissed if he finds out that Natasha lied to him or kept something from him, because he knows she's a spy and she lies and keeps stuff from everyone when she needs to. There isn't exactly an element of personal trust there.

On the other hand, Steve Rogers prides himself as being the better man, the good guy, and the one you can always rely on to do the right thing. That is Captain America. So I think the circumstances are a bit different.

Oh, the Ant-Man/Hawkeye moment seems like it happens in the last trailer. Can someone elaborate? Do they discuss it ahead of time?

Is it mentioned that Black Panther's suit is made of vibranium?

The junior novel says early on Black Panther scratches Cap's shield. Does it happen? Does it stay scratched?

Some figures/statues had War Machine with this staff thing. Think it was called his war hammer. Is it in? What does it do? Does Rhodey get to do/say anything cool?

Putting this in spoiler text because I think you genuinely shouldn't get spoiled for this kind of stuff, but if you really want to:
Yeah it basically happens and no they didn't prepare. Antman basically gets shot onto Iron Man and crawls into his suit and starts unplugging shit. Tony asks Friday what's happening and she says she doesn't know, then Ant-Man says something, I don't remember what it was. Tony asks, "Who's voice is that?" and Scott says "IM YOUR CONCSEINCE"

It's a goddamn great moment

No, they don't mention that at all

Does it stay scratched?

Yeah it stays scratched, but they don't really draw attention to it or anything.

Some figures/statues had War Machine with this staff thing. Think it was called his war hammer. Is it in? What does it do? Does Rhodey get to do/say anything cool?

Yeah he has this electric hammer/stick thing. It's pretty lame since it gets broken almost instantly
