Maybe you have to install Silverlight?
I just did a fresh install and restarted my browser just in case...no dice.

I keep refreshing and...nothing.

Every site I find is pointing there, though...so it's on MS to make that shit work, cause that's where they said it'd be, damnit! :lol

It's worked the last couple of years. It will probably just change when it's ready.

this is like off-topic's E3 :lol

Physically? Or are you talking about eye problems? The glasses are so big and fit over my own glasses I never gave it a second thought. Now if your talking about headaches, long adjustment times, I can relate to that with my first Avatar screening so far.

Physically. I always find it slides off the bridge of my nose.

I think 3D TVs could work sometime down the future but the key factor is they need to eliminate the glasses element to it. That's the one factor that will make this nothing more than a small silly fad.

I hear that. I do wonder how big the enthusiast market will be. Those guys, bless 'em, can sometimes drive things on. I also wonder how much the push outside of the living room will grab people's attention. Events and feature films at cinemas and stuff. If the content providers start expanding to other areas (tying into music particularly I'd imagine) it could give a boost.

Still, I'm uncomfortable with my sunnies let alone 3D goggles.

I feel like a 90 year old man using a computer for the first time.

I refresh the page and just start clicking random shit hoping it'll start a video somehow.

Tragic especially after you'd bloody provided links and frikkin' reminders. C'mon MS, bring the shit.

EDIT: Ahh, all's well with the world.

These aren't the cheapo RealD glasses. These active shutter based glasses have lenses that are either actual glass, or LCD panels and will communicate with the TV wirelessly. At cost, the Dolby 3D glasses are about $30 a pop. It's highly unlikely that the TV manufacturers will adopt a plug-n-play wireless interface, so they will all probably end up proprietary, and fairly expensive when you need to buy additional. Most importantly, we don't know how many glasses can be paired with a TV at once.

Yeah, theyre what IMAX uses (or at least used when I saw Harry Potter 5)

Theyre not the glasses you get at the regular theater, nor are they the ones that come inc cereal boxes (as used for Chuck 3D)

Do they need batteries? I assume so.

I'm not sure why something that hasn't taken off in the last 30 or so years is suddenyl going to take off now?
Color and sound technologies in film were around since the 1890s. Took until the late 1920s for sound to catch on. Took longer for color film to catch on. Part of it was that they were still underdeveloped technologies, but part of it was also a lack of interest in the public. Just because there hasn't been much interest in standardizing 3D over the past 50 years, doesn't mean it won't take off.

That said, 3D tech won't take off in home use until it can be done well without glasses.

I don't know what to tell you guys...

MS explicitly forbid other sites from streaming the event live...and this is the site they've pointed everyone to to watch it live.

...fucking hell...

TV's capable of 3D I can see having their own niche, and there will definitely be people who will want to have something that distinguishes itself as 'above the rest' and be able to watch Avatar in 3D at home, play the game that support it etc.

But aside from the never-going-away problem of having to wear glasses, just lack of content alone will stop 3D TV's ever being the next big thing. No one is going to film (and edit) everything they do in 3D.

You'll be lucky to get a single Sky 3D channel in the UK, there is no way they are going to devote the enormous bandwidth to something so niche and there would be practically nothing to show anyway. I can't see them duplicating the Sky Sports channels again for 3D as they have done for HD.

It would need such a concerted push from everyone that I can't see it happening, especially when you have such a basic issue as glasses to get over before you even address the important matter of amount of content.

God fucking damnit MS...

You go out of your way to ensure no one else can broadcast this shit and you don't make sure this shit will work when it's time to go live.

According the Engadget live blog it looks like it has just barely started.

^Thanks! w00t!

Here's hoping that this year's keynote is as hilarious as last year's:

Another update...

"majornelson MS Keynote will be delayed since we are sitting in the dark right not #cespowerfail less than 5 seconds ago from txt "

From Engadget -> 6:35PM "Good evening ladies and gentlemen... if anyone would remain in your seats... we're having a small power problem."

:lol

Edit: I'm always too slow :(

6:36PM This is not a good way to kick off 2010 guys. Steve is probably bashing someone's face in right now.

6:36PM Half of the computers up on stage have died. They're now manually restarting them, but they've missed a few.

6:35PM This would explain the completely dead screens.

6:35PM "Good evening ladies and gentlemen... if anyone would remain in your seats... we're having a small power problem." What!?

:lol :lol :lol

Are these new 3DTVs going to work where you are able to watch one channel (in 2d of course) with the glasses set to one shutter channel, and watch a different channel on the other shutter channel. I know some companies were talking about this feature last year, and it seemed to me to be the feature I'd use the most when it came to any 3DTV. Sure you have to have separate audio for each person, but being able to basically watch two channels on the same TV at the same time is sooooo cool.

The official MS page is starting to breathe a little.

Not working yet, but it's trying to do something.
