He doesn't even do let's plays with Jon anymore.

And he does do animations but very very rarely to the point he's now primarily a a lets player, then second a really shitty musician in his own band with Danny called Star Bomb ful of cringe worthy video game lyrics mixed with bad songs, and then an animator.

He could have labelled 'Jon Tron's Starcade exciting finale (with special guests!) discussion' thread. Or he could have waited a day or two and let people get a chance to actually watch the thing. We all operate on different timezones and work schedules.

Anyway would have been a better way to handle it.

That's a shame. I could see him being so successful on something like Adult Swim.

Fox(?) and their handling of his first show turned him off of it.

I acted as a creative consultant and was one of the two board directors when the show was in early production. I was given the opportunity to outline an episode (which, coupled with being the board director would have made the episode completely mine and the other board director's) but I don't think that outline still exists... it changed a lot without my knowledge even when I was there.

I don't want to come off as bitter toward my experience specifically, but rather bitter towards the process as a whole. I can say there were a lot of people I worked with who were very kind, but were just victims of the entertainment industry. It's a very impersonal, unsatisfying beast, and I hope never to work professionally in that capacity again.

I never really noticed that before but you're right. He can definitely sing but he lacks that punch in his voice and it always feels like he's holding back. Example.

I think Jon is the funniest of the three. However, he is also, without question, the most obnoxious. The singing at times forced me to just stop watching. He would also have a bad habit of being the guy that declares games awful after having played twenty seconds of it. In general, he could be an obstenant, pouty child. At times that worked nicely with Ego's irritability. Some awkward, hilarious episodes were the result.

He had hundreds of thousands, million+ of Subscribers before that video, everyone of his videos is amazing so "thats why" people follow him.

Hmm, I always assumed most grump fans were younger, but maybe you're right. The average grump age has certainly gone up with the addition of Danny and Brian, it would make sense that their audience is a bit older than other youtubers. But on the other hand the game grumps are so dumb and immature...

Game Grumps are in a unique position because both Arin and Jon did video game-related stuff prior to starting the channel. I imagine a lot of gaffers were around during the Newgrounds days when Egoraptor first started getting popular, so that likely helped. Most other LPers didn't have stuff like that going on prior to getting their start.

And really, they just have on average an older fanbase than PDP, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, etc, again people that are more likely to post on gaf. The fact they have good chemistry and actual improv skills as opposed to the more intentionally redundant nature of other super big LPers helps too.

And GG aren't even the most popular LPers on gaf. They don't have a multi-thread community like Two Best Friends do.

Edit: Expanding on Arin's Newgrounds days, he's got a pretty wide network of internet celebrity friends like the Sleepycabin crew, so the grumps are gonna get mentioned a lot wherever you go.

Most of the people I know in their twenties/early thirties who watch lets plays at all only watch Game Grumps so I can support this. I think it's partially because a lot of us actually knew who Egoraptor was, unlike the other lets players.

Dumb and immature sells, even to adults.

And there are definitely more moments of gold than with pretty much any other LPer that isn't Cr1tikal. Compare that to the bigger, louder LPers that rely on more significant visual edits and repeating stuff as they're not having a conversation with anyone but themselves. There's also far more dead time with them as they sometimes pay attention to the story of whatever they're playing. With the Grumps, they're ALWAYS talking, and regardless of what you think of their sense of humor, it's kind of impressive that they keep finding new things to talk about and stay mostly on point with those subjects. It makes sense with Dan as he has actual improv training.

That talk about Ocarina of Time during the LttP LP was basically this. Doubly dumb since Jon pointed out OoT's structure is near identical to LttP's but he wound up folding anyway.

Though there were other times where Jon would just randomly start screaming for no real reason other than boredom, so it's not like either were without their annoyances which led to me just dropping GG before the split-up even happened.

I'm guessing it's because they don't necessarily try to be obnoxious or loud for the sake of being obnoxious or loud. They're just two friends playing a game and having a conversation just like any normal human beings would. I guess they appear to be a bit more 'normal' than people like PewDiePie or Markiplier. Maybe that's where the appeal is, and I totally get it.

I'm glad I watched it without this spoiler. I'm also glad they seem to be cool with each other again, I think they have enough integrity to not make a video like this if they weren't, so it seems pretty genuine. Jontron needs to appear on Grumpcade to seal the deal though! Continuing Sonic '06 would be nice, but it likely would be too much of a recommitment and would not work well I don't think.

If they do bring him on though, he needs to work with Danny well in order for it really to ease the fans I think. I know they've worked together before (Jon was in the "Terrible party" video, along with Ross), but actually having them "Grump" together would be good. As others have said, a just Danny and Jon show would be interesting as well, but let's not get carried away here. Jon's no doubt going to prioritize his own stuff first, so the best we can hope for is a Jon cameo on GG to match Arin's cameo on Jontron.

I will definitely say the OP could have been more sensitive in their phrasing of at least the thread title, just something like: "Jontron's Starcade finale discussion thread... [SPOILERS]", would have been nice in order not to spoil people. Actual discussion of the guest should have been in spoiler tags as well IMO.

It's too bad the utter surprise and shocking happiness can't be experienced by people who've seen this thread now, I'd almost suggest a mod changing the title would be good... I had no idea at all for example and just was enjoying the episode itself (one of the best Jontron's ever, focusing on one thing unlike some recent episodes is always better, plus he was just spot on with almost all his jokes), and when they started hinting

with the Los Angeles reference and the hinting of Darth Vader being Arin, I wanted to believe, but just couldn't be sure if I could get my hopes up.

But it really was Arin! What a crazy surprise! Apparently according to Ross who posted some outtakes on Instgram or something, they actually improv'd in the "death" scene for 30 minutes and they chose the squirrel story as the best one for the episode apparently. That really gives me hope that they are back to being friends, maybe even good friends again.

"How can your hand withstand the power of a sith's blade?" "It can't." That was probably the best part besides the reveal. But besides that the actual episode was a really very good one, so the whole thing might be my favorite Jontron episode right now!

I used to know ego for his animations, now I feel like he dropped off the planet because I honestly have no care for let's plays and indie music bands.

It's a shame that this kind of thing happens, usually to do with money in some form.

There was some weird editing problem that delayed the release of Episode 3 or 4 until late summer. Jon has also done 3 "vanilla" episodes of Jontron starting in like November that runs almost simotaniously with these episodes.
