CHVRCHΞS are a Scottish electropop band from Glasgow. The group consists of Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals, additional synthesizers), Iain Cook (synthesizers, guitar, bass, vocals), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers, samplers, vocals). Spelling their name with a "v" instead of a "u" to differentiate themselves in Internet searches, CHVRCHΞS was formed in 2011. Mayberry, who previously played with the band Blue Sky Archives and holds a law degree as well as a master's degree in journalism, began working with Cook, a former member of Aerogramme and a film and television music composer, and Doherty, a touring member of the Twilight Sad, when they asked her to sing on some demos they were recording. The sessions went so well that the trio christened itself CHVRCHΞS and began writing songs inspired by Prince, Depeche Mode, and Kate Bush. Two of these songs, "The Mother We Share" and "Lies," earned online buzz and led to the band scoring the opening slot on Passion Pit's 2012 U.K. tour. Late that year, CHVRCHΞS were among the acts selected for the BBC's Sound of 2013, ultimately finishing fifth. The trio began 2013 by playing a few North American dates and recording its debut album in Cook's basement studio.

About to start listening to it.

Haven't really had the chance to check out these guys before.

I was hopelessly hooked on Mother We Share last year I think it was. Good god that is an awesome song. Everybody listen to it!

Wait what there is a We Were Promised Jetpacks remix of the mother we share? Fuck I need to hear this.

totally obsessed with this band, even though I've only heard a handful of songs. contemplating seeing them in oakland, just not sure how their live show would be.

Have enjoyed the songs they have released so far, looking forward to hearing the full album. Is iTunes the only place with the deluxe edition?

the album is pretty great, but nothing touches the mother we share. lungs and tether stand out on first listen, from the new tracks.

good day in album leaks, huh.

YUSSSSSS.

Gonna see them at Union Transfer on the 18th. I made the mistake of not going when they were here earlier this year, and tickets were cheaper. But not missing this shit~!

I wonder if they'll have the CD all sneaky like...hmm

Another weird band I've never heard of?
*opens thread*
*listens to The Mother we Share*

Holy fuck.

GOT EM :D

That's the same thing that happened to me too, except instead of a GAF thread, it was Alt Nation on SiriusXM. Damnthem

Seeing them in November! Super excited.

It's unfortunate that their best song from their EP isn't making it to the album:

I liked it too, but I liked Recover a biiiiit more.

Glad they put The Mother We Share and Lies on this album, they were by far the strongest of the songs they had released before

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the Recover EP pretty underwhelming compared to the rest of their discography, though I also really enjoy Gun.

When I first heard the chorus to "Recover" while in the mall, I was mesmerized.

That chorus was like a galactic retro synth eargasm. You know that feeling you get, when you hear a beat or melody so good, that you get not a chill, but a sensation from your ears, down your neck, and out through your shoulders?

That's what recovers chorus did to me. I don't care for the rest of the song though.

Favourite band/singer to have emerged in the last couple years. Incredible stuff. Also, did a GAFfer do the album art? Seems reminiscent of Chittagong's style... I think.

The only really good song on the Recover EP was the title track, so yeah I'm glad that made it on but the others can stay over on the EP.

Gonna listen in a sec.

Is it okay to listen to leaked albums on GAF? I thought people who talked about playing roms of leaked games got banned...

Definitely loved Mother We Share, Recover, and Lies. Wasn't a fan of Gun.

They are just really fun electro/synth-pop, and the lead singer is beautiful. Seeing them live in November! Hopefully this album is pretty good.
