Clannad (VN) Full Voice Edition coming to Steam

The anime is great, but it also kills of any interest of actually playing the game. I played One ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~ and it was just a whole lot of nothing most of the game.

"If Harry Potter/your favourite literature was a manga drawn by a completely terrible artist, would you have dismissed it too?"

That is a terrible analogy, but it's basically something I hold to myself and how I 'generally' feel whenever those kind of nonsense pop up.

All ages of adults. Where is the porn?

Yeah...... never going to play it again. I, no joke, cried every time I thought of the game for a week straight. Go buy this game.

Why does a Japanese visual novel use the name of an Irish Celtic musical group?

Just fans, like with Ogre Battle (which was a Queen song)?

Clann in Irish means family. As far as I'm aware, Clannad itself doesn't actually mean anything in Irish. But a major theme of the game is family, so there's that. btw I am Irish, so that's where the knowledge comes from.

You cant dismiss facts either. And that people uses to dismiss something really great due to prejudices, is a fact.

Also, there's a difference between art-style, and bad quality. And Clannad (anime) art and visuals, despite some big eyes, are amazing.

Yeah, the developers made a mistake. They thought Clannad means 'family' in irish because of the band Clannad. But their name actually stands for "Clann As Dobhar" which means "the family from Dore", with "Clann" alone actually meaning 'family'.

I honestly don't get why they would localize a game that's been available in English alreadu, but whatever.
Art style if fucking atrocious.

Whaaaaaaat? Key VN's on my Steam? o.o Whoa I will double-dip as I never thought this day would happen and this is all sorts of greatness! :D

My reaction whenever someone dismisses anything because of 'artstyle.'

Part of the experience in a game, especially a VISUAL novel, is the artstyle. If you don't like the way it looks, it's going to sway your judgement.

I know next to nothing about the artist or style, but it's ugly as hell and incredibly distracting. Could be a great game, but I don't know if I can get past the incredible eye gap.

Clannad art style is terrible IMO and judging visual novels by their visuals makes more sense than in like any other 'game' 'genre'.

Finding it weird that someone wouldn't want to stare at an art style they find bad for 100% of a game makes no sense.

You've finally the choice to choose the girl you want and you complain ?

I won't deny that, and despite what I said, I don't have any bad opinions on those who feel that artstyle is a major turn-on/off factor, because let's face it, it's happened to all of us.

It's just that I feel it's a disappointment, that's all. To me, I always feel that it would be the best if everyone could consciously turn off their natural disposition to certain things like a switch, so that they could enjoy mediums that, because they're given a different shade, affects their perception of certain things.

To me, Clannad and the like are no different than books. The visuals help with visualising and the sound gives context, but if asked to treat it like a CYOA book, I can do that.

This is the best news for me this year. Not even exaggerating here.

If it's not too expensive I'll probably gift some. The more sales good VNs get, the better.

Oh man Clannad. One of the few animes I've ever actually watched. After Story made me and anyone who's seen it cry like a baby. That shit got depressing.

This is an unreasonable expectation to hold upon others.

Everyone places different priorities on different aspects of a work. There's no universal tolerance level.

I, for one, have problems playing Higurashi because of the artstyle. My enjoyment is negatively affected by the silly proportions. It's an uphill battle to take the story seriously in that regard; but still, that's no one's lost but mine.

Edit: Especially for a visual novel. If the art style bothers you so much, then why force yourself to read it? There's plenty of other media to keep you entertained.

This is an unusual way to treat this medium. The visual aspect forms an important half of the experience. It's not like these are books with a few illustrations interspersed every 50 pages.

Maybe you find it easier to compartmentalize the two, but others may not.

Dango, Daaan~go...

Oy. Watched the seasons last year or so thanks to Netflix. You'll Carry That Weight. Thus another situation where my not being a PC gamer has no sway to keep me from playing the game, haha. FOR CLANNAD... There will be a time. Though I'd still prefer console releases! :)

I like seeing VNs making their way to the west, after admiring their art since at least the mid / late 90s.

I hate reset endings in general, and Clannad's is one of the worst offenders. Super-long melancholic narrative with scenes designed precisely to wring tears as much as possible, then suddenly it never happened and everything is happy. You can't have it both ways.

... note that I've only watched the anime.

That's not how it is and if that's how you really think it ended then you weren't paying attention.

Mega Spoiler:
Tomoya remembers everything and understands what happened was a wish he wanted and a miracle happened.

This is the kind of Visual Novel I can get behind, watched the anime series and the feels were incredible, loved it.
Are there more Visual Novels like Clannad? I mean, ones that don't rely on stupid things I don't need in my VNs like nudity, cleavage and unnecessary panty shots.

Check out Ever 17: The Out of Infinity.

I'm laughing my ass off

Ever17 was my first VN. so fucking good

then I had no choice but to delve into the h side. I think the only non-H VNs I've played are Planetarian, Clannad and yeah, Ever17.

Not to say the h side is bad but srsly they outnumber the safe side by a huge metric, my favorite alongside E17 is Tsukihime and that one's got wacky nude scenes since the art isn't good

I'm just wondering if there's enough there to make the game worth playing. Especially for me who dislikes the early to mid game of (dating) visual novels. Though, my dislike is based on that (dating) visual novel I played.

Jun Maeda is an hack.

Is this one good?

Never play any VN before but from people who share similar taste as me, this was recommended.

Pretty bad and filled with stupid fanservice.

Play Sharnoth if you want something similar and better.

Uber spoiler.

It's still stupid. Why not end with Tomoya and Ushio reconciling and building toward a new life? It'd be the perfect way to end the arc. But no, Key has to go and manipulate your emotions one more time by non-sensically killing Ushio and then Tomoya (just because). And then retcon that because :lol why not.

Also, if I were Tomoya I'd be freaking out. If I retain my memories, then is this really the same Ushio and the same Nagisa? They may be "them" from an alternate universe, but are they really the ones I lived, suffered, and loved with?
